Taking tape off tonight!!!
i was supposed to be seeing my surgeon on Tuesday for the first time since my op (as I go on holiday on Wednesday) but I got a letter yesterday saying it's been cancelled till 16th June!!! By then I will be 7 and a half weeks post op, no one has seen my incisions at all as the tape is still on - so I rang the nurses at the hospital to ask about the tape and she was like oh yes it should be off by now - argh!!! So she's made me an appointment for tomorrow morning and suggested I try and take the tape off tonight in the shower as it will be easier than her trying to pull it off dry! She was lovely and so helpful but I can't help but feel a bit let down by my surgeon.... surely if he had to cancel my appointment it would have been an idea for him to ask me to have a wound check with the nurse in the mean time rather than me going into panic mode and finding out these things myself, grrrr!?
Anyway, rant over (sorry just needed to get that out of my system somewhere lol).
OMG - I've gotta get my tape off!!! GULP!!!

Re: Taking tape off tonight!!!
It's a good idea to try in the shower if you can but I'm not sure I could have done it myself.
How's your other half with stuff like that? Would he be willing to do it while you were lying down, even if it's straight from the shower so the tapes are still damp?
I'm sure either way you'll be fine. Everything will have healed really well by now so don't worry. Have a glass of wine at the ready as a reward xx

Re: Taking tape off tonight!!!
Mine were only 10 days old and still had the dressings on. The dressings were REALLY stuck down, so much so he said he's going to change the ones he used as too sticky. He was really gentle and to be honest my boobs were still numb underneath anyway.
I would have thought the tapes would have come off much easier but I couldn't see what he was doing as my big boobies were in the way!!
Haha I like your style, maybe a glass before and the rest of the bottle after xx

Personally I'd wait....bit of a cop out from the nurse!! It will be fine, she'll do it so fast you won't notice and you can lay down and relax! If its that necessary she can wet them!

I would wait too. That's why you pay for aftercare . She would be the one to check there are no small holes where infection can get in etc. I'm of the same opinion as mammamia xxxx

I'm with the others & would leave it for nurse to do , she's done it many times so shouldn't be a problem to have it on for one more night.
Let us know how you get on.

Re: Taking tape off tonight!!!
Hi ladies,
Oh no I didn't see your messages till now! I wish I had :-/
I took the tape off... It came of ok (I did it super slowly) but I don't think my stitches have dissolved properly yet, either that or it's just dried blood, I can't tell... It's just like little bits of black lumps but most is clear and smooth. all looks ok apart from that, no sign of any infection or anything. I have re-covered them with fresh tape though till the nurse has checked them, didn't feel confident enough to leave them naked.
Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Thanks xxx

Don't worry musdypaws....I'm sure it's just dried blood. The nurse will clean it up tomorrow. Dissolvable stiches are white so you should be fine!

Re: Taking tape off tonight!!!
Oooh good luck with the nurse, glad to hear it's healing properly!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - It's like a thick, adhesive dressing, yes. Mine goes pretty much from armpit to armpit and is driving me a bit bonkers, although it does make for excellent cleavage ;)

Hope it went well with the nurse today.
I didn't realise there was tape as well as dressings, how long does it usually stay on for? X

Re: Taking tape off tonight!!!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I had micropore tape over my incisions whilst they were healing, it's just like a surgical tape to protect against rubbing and help the wound stay together in the early stages :-)
Nurse said all looks well and I'm healing nicely, she said I'm fine to get a bath now but no pool or sea whilst I'm on holiday, and to be careful of getting sweaty as obviously bacteria loves warm damp areas.
Personally I think it's too early to be soaking in the bath yet so I think I will hold off a little longer for that.

Thanks :-)
The nurse said I'm fine to soak in the bath now but I'm not convinced so I'm gonna leave that till after I've seen my surgeon at 7 and a half weeks, see what he says - a few more weeks of showers won't hurt, I'd rather be safe than sorry. But oh yes I can't wait to soak my aching back - and sleep on my side!
