Advice please
Hi, I would like to have a BA op in June. I've been looking into various companies and surgeons without much luck, it seems like a minefield. I contacted a cosmetic surgery company today and queried whether any or their surgeons were BAAPS members. The lady said they were all specialists and only doctors working in the NHS need to be BAAPS members.
Does anyone know if this is true? I've read a few articles and they recommend a surgeon with BAAPS membership. Just choosing a surgeon is difficult, there doesn't seem to be any reviews of the surgeons in my local area, just testemonials on their websites. I would appreciate any advice at all. Thanks in anticipation.

If you use this website:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
You can go to the 'find a surgeon section' and a map will come up, then find a BAAPS surgeon in your area.
A lot of surgeons work for more than one company, and sometimes their own personal clinic too (sometimes cheaper)
If you could let us know which country you are in, we may have some recommendations here :)
Also use the search bar at the top to type names of surgeons and see if there have been any past posts.
It is hard!! - but were here to help :) xx

Re: Advice please
Hi & Welcome to Breast Buddies . ,
BAAPS registered surgeons don't just work within the NHS as Anne has said they also can be found working within private hospitals such as Spire, BMI etc .
What many women don't know in the UK is that there's very little regulation around this surgery, so you could end up with a doctor who has no surgery skills, let alone plastic surgery skills taking a scapel to your body and changing your shape for always.
With BAAPS surgeons it's an assurance that you're getting a surgeon who 'specialises' in Breast Augmentation and who have many years experience doing this and are fully qualified.
If you're steering away from BAAPS, don't just trust what you read on websites.
Check the GMC register. Firstly you need to ensure that a) they're actually on the register and b) theyre on the specialist register for plastic surgery. This is the minimum you're going to be wanting from a surgeon
If they say they're a member of BAPRAS OR BAAPS do go to their websites and again check that what they're saying is right.

Re: Advice please
Thanks for the replies. I haven't checked out bmi, I'll have a look. I have appointments with Mya and transform this week but would like other opinions too.
I'm so glad I found this forum, you've all been a big help already. It looks like I've got a lot of reading and research still to do but in the long run it's worth it to get things right xx

Re: Advice please
I think all NHS surgeons need to be BAAPS registered, but if the woman told you only NHS surgeons 'need' to be, then that's utter rubbish and a sales pitch. She's basically saying none of our surgeons are, but use us anyway. Now, that's not to say that non-baaps surgeons aren't good surgeons. I'm assuming you rang a commercial clinic. These are fine, and in fact, I had mine done with the hospital group by a non-baaps surgeon, but Mirrens right, you need to check the credentials of these guys.
By being told they're all 'specialists', she's likely twisting the truth again. Specialists at what? You wouldn't want a skin specialist performing you BA. As above, check the GMC register for all surgeons qualifications.
If you did want to go down the BAAPS route, it does tend to cost a little more, but you get what you pay for. These guys work on reputation, so they strive to be the best. They can work out of many clinics, BMI, Spire, or even their own practices. Some may do commercial clinics. But always check them out first.
Also, as you've already 'met' one, be wary of PCCs - Patient Care Coordinators. They are glorified sales people, and are not in anyway medically trained, so they cannot give you any further information other than pricing, and clinic details. Do not let them talk you into a surgery you don't want, let them discuss sizing with you, anything to do with your procedure or implant.
There's a lot of research to be done, so have a good look around our BA Info section to start you off :)

Re: Advice please
No that's not true. Be very careful with the commerical clinics, Transform etc. Too many sales women working for them and aftercare is rubbish in some of the companies x

Re: Advice please
Yes, the woman told me that nhs surgeons need to be BAAPS registered and will probably only do 100 ops a year whereas the surgeons that work for them do 1000s of ops a year so have more experience.
Reading he replies above this obviously isn't the case. I'm in the middle of researching the local surgeons and will probably go with one that has got BAAPS registration x

Re: Advice please
I went with a BAAPS registered surgeon and he charged £200-400 less than the commercial clinics
I was shocked when I got the paper work through, £4316

Re: Advice please
Thanks sarahlou222, that sounds promising. Was your surgery carried out local to you? You're not that far from me really. I have a couple of consultations booked already but they're with Large companies. None of their surgeons seem to have BAAPS registration x

Theses nurses and receptionists should not be allowed to give information they know nothing about. I think it's shocking xxx

Re: Advice please
I'm on the verge of booking with THG but am holding back because my surgeon isn't BAAPS registered. I am confident in the surgeon but I'm not sure if I should be going with a fully registered surgeon instead :-/

It's confusing isn't it? I'm waiting for a call back from Spire as I've read that all their surgeons are BAAPS registered.

Re: Advice please
Not all surgeons are BAAPS but for me personally it was peace of mind. A lot of girls get sucked in by the deals and slightly lower prices which is fine as long as you have done your research on your surgeon and you feel happy. Xxx

Re: Advice please
I agree. I don't mind paying slightly more. The main advice seems to be to go with BAAPS surgeon. I've taken your advice and requested info from my local BMI hospital. One of the surgeons that works there seems to have a good write up, same with the one that works at the nearby Spire hospital. I can go to a few consultations and then decide which one suits me best xx

Re: Advice please
I think (happy to be corrected) that all the aurora and mybreast consultants are baaps registered and it is cheaper/ free consultations through those clinics. Most baaps surgeons charge £150ish for a consultation and that soon adds up. It seems some pretty highly thought of surgeons work for those 2 so worth a look xx

Re: Advice please
I have consultations booked with MYA and transform tomorrow. I'm booked into a 10 minute mini consultation with a BAAPS registered surgeon on Monday that is free with a view to a paid consultation if I like what he has to say. I'll let you know how it all goes. If I'm still undecided I'll try aurora. Thanks for the advice xx
