How did you keep calm?
Well my op is next Thurs, I've paid today and my nerves are getting worse. I'm an anxious person at the best of times and lots of worries are going through my mind. I'm going to be climbing the walls on the day. How did you all stay calm and keep anxieties low, any help greatly appreciated! X

Re: How did you keep calm?
Aww lovely there is no reason to be so nervous!
Try and keep your mind occupied on other things, keeping yourself and your mind busy.
Ever taken Kalms? you can buy them from any health food shop/boots. They are meant to be quite good at steadying nerves.
Yoga class/deep breathing exercises?
Stop 'googling' random stuff (this was my problem)
I didn't have massive nerves, just excitement and I only felt nervous at the hospital when I walked to the theatre and it all became so real! x

Re: How did you keep calm?
Thank you very much! My rational side tells me I should be excited but that never lasts! I had a traumatic birth last year and it's scarred me! I just hope I can stay calm on the day, unfortunately it's a late check in of 1.30pm which makes matters worse. I've actually got kalms in the cupboard but wasn't sure about taking them xx

Re: How did you keep calm?
I remember taking Kalms on the train on my way to the consultation. It's so weird as it seems a lifetime ago now! I was shaking and everything I was so nervous haha, all for a consultation! I don't personally think they did anything (more of a placebo effect). Best to get some music on and have a nice Chamomille tea lol! xx

Re: How did you keep calm?
I put op to back of my mind and kept busy with other things, even left packing my hospital bag until day of op just to give me something to do and less time to worry.
Check with your clinic/hospital before taking any herbal supplements to calm nerves, can't see it being a problem but better to always check.

Re: How did you keep calm?
Thanks everyone. I'm packing and cleaning everything, I seem to keep calm by organising lol. I'll check for the kalms. I asked at my pre op if I can have something to keep me calm before hand and she said the surgeon will need to sign it off on the day. Xx

I don't think I worded that too well. I was going to ask if you had used them.. and then say ask your surgeon lol.
If you have taken things like that in the past I would actually recommend this:

I actually swear by it. Driving test, Uni exams, job interview, running the marathon! any stressful time what so ever it has been truly amazing... probably a placebo but it got me through Uni very very well!! You can buy from Holland and Barrett or boots for £7.99 I think.
My dad did Reiki, Colour balancing, homeopathy etc as a hobby when he lived in America.... so he introduced me to it :) x

I didn't lol it's impossible to keep calm about choosing to go under GA and have surgery I think. I cried the night before and cried on the operating table x

Re: How did you keep calm?
Thanks Sarah Lou my mum does those things too and I have something called pulsatilla I've been taking until recently. It's really helped, even if it is a placebo I don't care!
Port you princess, it's terrifying, last time i was in theatre was very horrible so I'm sure it won't be like that again, I hope!
I've debated so many times and know I would be very depressed with how I look if I didn't do it so I think it's worth the risk xx

Re: How did you keep calm?
I honestly don't remember! I guess I was working on the Friday, then we headed to Bromsgrove Saturday night. I think hubs was yelling at me to get packed, I was just kind of calm about it all, not excited or nervous.
Get prepped, and stay away from the internet! Don't start looking up horror stories now. Just try and keep your mind off it really, keep busy. And definitely check before taking anything, most clinics say no supplements 14days prior.

Re: How did you keep calm?
It may be worth phoning the clinic and explaining that you're really nervous based on a previous traumatic event, and ask to be first on the list so you're not waiting around getting worked up. Also mention to your anesthetist as soon as you see him, he can give a sedative to keep you calm if needed. But you'll be fine! Focus on the end result and remember this is elective surgery so better planned and managed compared to labour! I imagine you'll enjoy the experience and be grateful of the deep sleep!

Re: How did you keep calm?
Read the surgery stores!
That really helped me out, reading stories from girls who were so nervous with similar thoughts to you, who prove the process is actually rather fine and come out after op feeling fab!x

Re: How did you keep calm?
I'm pre op but just wanted to say, I have used Bach's rescue remedy drops lots of times. I don't think I would have passed my driving test without them! You can put the drops into a bottle of water. Check with your surgeon though xx

Good luck, just try to keep busy, and although it's hard, enjoy it. Your one step closer each day to your dream boobies!
That's how I'm getting by anyway lol!
Although I'm not nervous yet...just impatient.
June is a loooooong way away!

Re: How did you keep calm?
I hope your nerves are easing this journey is an emotional roller coaster I am finding it hard to sleep but still have sleepless nights with the youngest baby. I am just keeping busy which isn't hard in my house as I'm always on the go. I have decided to start doing the tax returns for business Wednesday and Thursday evening as I love figures and challenges and want to relax after operation that should occupy and tire my brain out. I'm not taking any supplements as I don't take much in the way of medicines and allergic to so many things plus can't swallow tablets but I'm going to try arnica 30 two days before op and a week after as surgeon recommended it.
