What happens if.....?
Hi everyone, a new worry came to me today and wonder if anyone knows what happens if say, a few hours after surgery you have a haematoma and need to go back to surgery. I'm guessing the surgeon doesn't wait around all eve! Do they hae another standing by who would deal with it? Would this affect the results it two different surgeons operate?! I'm probably being very irrational, I think I've thought of all eventualities. My surgery is mid afternoon so that got me thinking! Thanks xx

Re: What happens if.....?
I'd presume they would have a surgeon on standby at all times in case of an emergency hun, but if your worried just give the hospital a call, or speak to your surgeon, I'm sure they will be able to put your mind at rest quickly xxx

Re: What happens if.....?
If you're still in the clinic, they will take you straight back into surgery. It will be whatever surgeon is available at that time. But its nothing to worry about, as you're in the best place for it, and they've already got all your notes. Its happened to a few girls, and they've been fine.
If it happens after the op when you're back home, I guess it would be an A&E situation. If its something you're worried about, discuss it with the clinic and get their advice so you're prepared.

Re: What happens if.....?
Thanks very much girls, I know it's probably unlikely, I hope.
Another worry is catching something and it gets cancelled. I've got three kids and one of them usually has a cold or something! My daughters at nursery and has woke up with a chesty sounding cough. Is there anything I can do to prevent catching it? I'll try really hard not kiss her and wash hands constantly :-( x

Re: What happens if.....?
The time they normally cancel is if you had a chest infection or something that affects your airways. But don't worry too much you will be ok. Yes that's it . Not too close and hand washing. I was worried about this too xxxx

Re: What happens if.....?
If it's just the sniffles, it's fine. Just get plenty of rest, fruite and veg etc. It's actually quite common, not only with kids, but through the stress of it all. They'll only cancel if it's a full on chest infection or something.

Re: What happens if.....?
So an ordinary cold would be ok if it happens? So far preventative measures I've discovered are gargling with salt water morning and night, honey as it's a natural antibiotic, holding your breath for 15 seconds if someone coughs or sneezes nearby lol. As you may have guessed I am a worrier! I'd be gutted if it was cancelled after all the arranging xx

bless you Pixi89 <3 I'm sure it'll all go smoothly
Out of interest for all you experienced lot; what sort of time frame can a haematoma happen? I always assumed straight away, but can this be delayed and how long should you watch out for it? x

Re: What happens if.....?
Thank you very much! Yes I'm swaying from excitement to panic! I'm not sure of time frame but I think it can even be a couple of weeks? My mum's had her boobs done a few times over the last 25 years or so and she had one once but it happened very quickly while she was still in hospital and the same surgeon fixed it. I just can't quite believe I'm really getting this done! Xx
