Had 1st appointment (McGeorge), a few qs for you!
Hi guys,
Thanks to your recommendation (I believe it was Cookie), I have just today had my first appointment with Douglas McGeorge at Spire Cheshire.
I was very impressed by him - he's obviously very, very experienced and answered almost every question I had before I even had a chance to ask it. He also set my mind at ease regarding the contoured vs round implants and why he prefers the former, as well as all the possible risks etc.
I just wanted to ask you guys a few questions if that's ok.
It might sound silly, but will I ever see an implant before they get put in me? I guess I was expecting to have a bit of a feel of one, to see how firm they feel etc. He kept describing the cohesive gel, but I'd quite like to have a play, as it's a natural look / feel I'm going for, so I wouldn't want anything too firm.
On a similar note - do you ever get to sort of try them on? I have seen a few threads where people have worn some sort of top contraption which gives them an idea of how big they might look afterwards. He told me I was about 12.5cm wide, would need a medium profile implant, full size, and I'm happy that we're on the same page regarding the final look (reinflated rather than pneumatic), but I don't know whether that's all there is to it.
Thirdly - I know you all recommend trying a couple of different surgeons, and I do have an appointment at the end of next month with another surgeon, but frankly I'm more than happy to not even see the second one, and just go with McGeorge. I was impressed by his professionalism, his obvious depth of knowledge, and I didn't feel fobbed off - he seemed genuine when he said to get in touch even if it's just for a silly question or two. The hospital also seemed the sort of place I'd be happy in (I didn't feel uncomfortable or snubbed, and it seemed very clean and friendly). I'd book myself in for this Friday if I didn't already have plans!
What would your advice be?

Oooh also, he mentioned crop tops / sports bras - how do you know what size / type to go for?!

Glad it went so well! I'm sure you'll have an opportunity to feel and try on implants. I imagine he's got all that planned, along with talking bra size's, for your next appt if you decided to go ahead! Just make another appt and maybe let his secretary know that's your expectation!

I got my bra from Tesco, it was a great little sports bra. Can't remember how i chose the size though. I saw implants and tried on the fillets at my 2nd consult x

As you can see, i lied to you about my implant size! They were 310 not 210

Yes you can feel the actual implants and try the sizers. Your surgeon will tell you what bra and what size to buy and it's always advisable to get at least 3 opinions x

I have cohesive gel, and they feel very natural. It takes quiet a while for implants to soften though. It doesn't happen right away. Cohesive gel is also knows as gummy bear. Xxxx

its very likely to have been me - I love his work sooooo much

Call the clinic and ask them if you're able to come in and feel the implants availabke to you hun. I'm sure there must be implants there that you'll be able to see.
The Cohesive implants are the latest implants currently on the market. They're made to lessen the risk of CC and also rippling so they are the best choice of implant out there right now.

I never saw any Facilty there to be able to try on implants, but then, I already have them and it would be no help to me t all whe I want to reduce them lol. Again, do call the clinic though and ask if this were something that was possible for you to do.
I do feel though that Mr George doesn't offer 'a choice' if size. Of course he'll talk this over with you but he's very confident in his choices and is very confident with his decisions.
If not, may try using the rice test. There are stickys on the forum that guide you through how to make them and from what I've seen, although there's no method to give you an exact comparison to your final result, the rice test does seem to be pretty accurate.

It's said when you meet 'the one' you know it and lol, from what I'm reading this is how you feel right now.
Many any women do book right away when they're feeling so confident in the surgeon, but if you really want to know you have the best for you, the only way to really do this is to have someone to compare him to.
I only had the one consultation for me with him, but ive spent years stalking the poor man lol, so there was never any comparison 'for me' I knew in my heart he was the right one for me. I had met him before though and that when when my daughter was 18 and she decided she wanted implants. I took her to see Mr McGod and he actually refused her surgery. He told her that her body hadnt pret finished maturing and he didn't feel it ethical to operate when she may well change her mind in a few years, but if she didn't and still wanted Breast Augmentation then, then he would operate then....fast forward two years and he was so, so right. Her body had changed and she was happy with the shape she then had and pleased she hadn't gone through with it. She went with a friend to MYA before this and the surgeon there was more than happy to operate, so as you say, he's a man who is genuinely there to make you happy with your body. Money doesn't matter to him, his patients do and that very much comes across when you meet him doesn't it.
its entirely up to you what you want to do though hun. If you feel you've met 'the one' go for it, but if there's any tiny doubt that you may change your mind seeing another surgeon who could be better for you, then do have another consultation. It's so, so important you have complete trust in your surgeon and no surgeon is right for everyone. Give it some thought sweetie, there's no rush to book anything, you may feel super excited right now and this may be clouding your judgement. If you're still feeling the same way in a week or two, then I'd say your mind is pretty much made up sweetie so book away and look forward to the day! Xx[/quote]

That's exactly it. I have absolutely no doubts whatsoever about him as a surgeon; the only doubts I have are with the surgery itself - little niggly things like anaesthesia risk and ignorance about how the end result will look.
I am happy that we are both on the same page regarding what I want. Like you said, Cookie, after asking me a couple of questions, he basically told me what he would do. Which is exactly what I wanted. He comes highly recommended and clearly has oodles of experience (he had another surgeon in with him during the consultation who I presume was learning from him), and there was no doubt in my mind that he's the one to go for. So yes, I'm happy that he is the right choice.
I'll have a go with the rice test, and I'll ring them up. I'm thinking of booking a second consultation to answer a few more of my questions anyway but frankly I'm struggling to find reasons not to just go ahead with it right now.
That's good to know about the feel of the cohesive gel, thanks anneritchley. I think the 'cohesive' part was making me think it was firmer than it is, but I'll ring them up and ask to have a prod all the same :)
Thanks you guys. Sniggering at McGod

Yes, Douggie McGod lol, is a teacher now to the trainee BAAPS surgeons. He's also a past president of BAAPS and still a chairman of the board so highly respected amongst his peers.
Not that any of that matters if he's not the right surgeon for you or anybody else, it's just a little more information about him xx

Re: Had 1st appointment (McGeorge), a few qs for you!
It was those bits of information that made me book him, to be honest. The fact that he clearly takes his career seriously and was respected enough to be offered the chair... well I just wouldn't want any doubts about the person cutting me up, so it was a no-brainer when I found him, really.

Re: Had 1st appointment (McGeorge), a few qs for you!
Hi jabberwocky
I too booked mcgeorge after seeing cookies recommendation. I'm booked for 3rd April. I too was expecting to see implants or try on sizers at my apt with him and was disappointed when I didn't get to do either. He suggested 500cc 14cm, anatomicals. Full height, moderate profile as I am tall. I made rice boobs when I got home and was quite shocked at the size of them but everyone I tried them on for said they were perfect for my frame and complemented my figure. I was still wanting reassurance so went back today for a second consultation with him at Nuffield Chester although I sm booked in as Cheshire spire. I met his secretary who is very nice and I had asked her previously if I would be able to see an implant. They had one ready to show me although not the right size and after the consultation one if his nurses took me to another room and tried on sizers with me. This was helpful as it gives you an idea but to be fair it's not far off what the rice boobs look like, although mcgeorge says the rice boobs can look slightly bigger as you are putting them on top of your existing breast so you get a slightly fuller impression. I went to m&s and got a sports bra crop top. The size I got was medium. I am a 12-14 top and on the hanger that fit my current bra range so give it a go.
Weenie xx

Good :)
Cookie had to have a lymph node removed which is normally quite painful, and can cause so much pain down the arm that she wouldn't be able to type etc.. I'm sure she will be back in a few days time after some much deserved rest :) xx
