consultation booked!
Hi girls, finally taken the plunge and booked my first consultation. It's been a long wait due to health problems I've suffered since having my last baby almost a year ago. The main one being a massive blood loss which had taken a long time to recover from. I still have a couple of issues though... dysfunctional breathing being one. I'm due to have respiratory physio for this in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have experience of this? It came about from being very anaemic after a three litre blood loss, I was transfused but probably not enough. I was offered more blood before I left hospital but I was too scared at the time so had iron tablets instead. I have got into a habit of hyperventilation as the anaemia made me breathless, so the physio is to help with that. I may find out they can't operate on me while I'm dealing with this, so I'm preparing for that. Fingers crossed! X

Re: consultation booked!
Good Luck with your consultation!
Hope everything goes well, try not to be too disappointed if you have to wait a little longer for your surgery, it will give you a little longer to plan & being in good health pre surgery will help post op recovery.
Surgeons will only want what's best for you.
Let us know how it all goes.XXX

Re: consultation booked!
Hope the consultation goes well babe.
A word of advise.... If you're thinking of going with one of the large commercial clinics they quite often don't have intensive care facilities to look after patients that might require a little more looking after after surgery.
The smaller clinics such as BMI and SPIRE and The Nuffield DO have these facilities and surgeons trained to deal with any unplanned complications.
Just something you might want to take on board sweetheart if you haven't already. You didn't say who it was you're intending to see? Xx

Thank you very much for the replies. Oh yes I'm very concerned and my health is top priority so I've decided to go to spire Edinburgh. I'm seeing Hilal Bahia. My mum has had a few procedures here and they always looked after her very well.
I'll be disappointed of course if I need to wait but after waking up in itu after emcs I don't want to take any chances! X

Re: consultation booked!
Very wise babe.
There shouldn't be a problem though. I'm sure they'll want a blood test to check your blood clots OK as well as ensuring you're not currently anaemic, maybe a lung function test too to check alls well there, they'll do all the tests required to ensure your saftey though, so don't worry. It may mean you have to wait a while whilst both your surgeon and your GP get to work together to get you fit for surgery (been there myself hun) but if it is possible...then they're the the best place to be gorgeous.
Good luck and please update won't you after you've been. Xxx

Re: consultation booked!
I've been having regular blood tests and my hb is fine but ferritin on the low normal side but I'm hoping after this course of iron tablets finishes it will be fine! I've lived on red meat and spinach nearly a year and lost two stone as a result, there's a lot to be said for clean eating!
I'm not having the consultation until 3rd March but I'll be sure to let you know. Has anyone else been told they need to wait for their surgery? Truth be told I'm absolutely petrified of it but also very unhappy with how I look after bf three babies, so trying to be brave. X

Re: consultation booked!
You'll be fine. I've had to wait for surgery before. Had problems with potassium levels, iron count, had to postpone one because my surgeon wanted to speak with doc about sarcoidosis.
It all worked out for me...fingers crossed it'll be positive news for you too
When you GP and surgeon start working together it can get started pretty fast because between them they can tests done, if any negative results come back, they let you know by phone ASAP, so you can go back and see how to fix that, get that sorted, another test and hopefully it's a positve one then.
So stay positive sweetness - you're in good hands. Xx

Yes, the end of the month!
I have my pre-op booked for the 16th and I'm in the same position as yourself again and just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best. Xx

Re: consultation booked!
It's good that the surgeon is covering everything, the last thing you would want is for the surgeon to take a chance. Health comes first. I'm sure it will all be fine. Xxxx
