Booked another consultation!
Even after the research I have carried out, I've taken everyone's advise and booked a second consultation.
I'm going to visit Harley medical group in Leeds - the first consultation is with a nurse.
To see the surgeon I would need to pay £100.
Has anyone been here?
My friend had her BA here, but one of her scars is slightly untidy (although she loves her boobs)
I don't know which surgeon she had - I can find out though!
So I'm going there... Tomorrow (bit too fast for my liking when I only rang today!!)
And the Yorkshire Clinic to meet Mr Foo on Thursday :)

Re: Booked another consultation!
Thank you.
The lady on the phone (very hesitantly) gave me the name of the 3 surgeons, I couldn't find them on the Internet so I thought just ask! I'll do my research on them. She said,
'The nurse would place you with the surgeon she thought best for your treatment after the consultation'
I much prefer the sound of Mr Foo - but I will stay open minded!! Thank you! X

Re: Booked another consultation!
Hmg get very mixed reviews, so don't let them flatter you into a sale! Seeing the nurse first always seems like a con and waste of time to me, they aren't trained to advise you on anything, it's the surgeon you need to see. If you're happy to pay the cash, go for it. Do try and check out the surgeons first, you can look for them on the gmc website to see their qualifications.

Re: Booked another consultation!
Most doctors will be on the gmc register as it's general surgery not specific cosmetic, plastic surgery . It's the baaps register you want for specialised surgery.
I've never heard of any of them surgeons. HMG is a large company and they usually have no fees to see surgeons. As turnover of patients is what they're after.
As charli says though a nurse consulation is pointless , they will not be able to advise on size/placement or anything like that! She's not a surgeon and is not performing the surgery! All you'll get for the appointment of what a ba entails and maybe push you for a sale.
Have you tried nuffiled , spire, bmi hospitals?

Re: Booked another consultation!
Mr Ivan Foo is a BAAPS member
Mr Aurakzai and Mr Sleiter are on the GMC register but neither are on any specialist register.
Mr Mahadev is is on the GMC register and is on the specialist register for 'general surgery' not 'plastic surgery'
If you're intent on using this clinic Sarah, then I'd personally insist on seeing Mr Foo.
I think it's an actual joke requesting a consultation fee from any of the other three surgeons when none of them are even on the specialist register for plastic surgery! Xx

Re: Booked another consultation!
I'm soooo glad you all agree with me!
I also believe seeing a nurse is pointless - I think it's going to be Mr Foo all the way
The nearest Spire has 3 surgeons.. one of which is Mr Foo, but they charge £300 more! - I'm hoping to find out why it's £300 more when I see him on Thursday, if it's down to after care etc. I would pay more if found necessary and also I'd check with you guys too!
I'll look into Nuffield and BMI hospitals today! I'm from Cambridgeshire and only moved to Yorkshire 3 months ago, so I'm still not certain of what's around xx

Re: Booked another consultation!
I think the cost is likely to do with the clinics reputable history and care for patients.
The Hafley Medical Group were one of the clinics that turned their backs on ladies they implanted with PIP Breast implants which were filled with 'matress filling' instead of the high grade silicone that was approved'. They refused all of their patients free revision to get those implants out. There was a bit of an uproar about it at the time.
Also, with Spire you'll always have 'direct contact' with Mr Foo. With the HMG you'll always have contact with the nurse and not Mr Foo other than for your 6-12 weeks check-up.. If you have problems you'll have to go through the clinic nurse first to see if they see fit for you to see Mr foo. With Spire you'd see Mr Foo directly.
I don't think you actually put a price on that direct contact persoanlly. Xx

Re: Booked another consultation!
£300 is a very little price to pay more for the service you'll get.
Major clinics are after turnover, mthey employ lots of surgeons lots of nurses and a lot of Pccs .
Pccs are irrelevant and infact have ended up to be more hassle than their worth and only ever a go between to your surgeon .
Baaps surgeons don't use Pccs they have secretaries and their own nurses but the majority of the time it's the surgeon you'll have direct contact with.
A lot of companies also have a lot of small print when it comes to after are and if complications arise.
Just taking my experience I had direct contact with my surgeon, when I my complication of bottoming out very soon after surgery it was dealt with there and then on my follow up.
He confirmed I'd bottomed out and told me to book a date when conveient for me as soon as I liked and it was free of charge no fees to pay and booked in for a few weeks later.
I know not every complication is resolved as simply especially when it comes to the large cooperate companies. Sometimes it's put before a board to see if you qualify for revision free of charge. Sometimes you may have to pay certain fees.

Re: Booked another consultation!
Sorry Cookie I don't think I must of explained myself well.
Mr Foo is at 'The Yorkshire Clinic' I would have direct contact with him. All of my consultations are with him.
At the Harley clinic is the second one I have booked an appt with for a second opinion, but I couldn't find the surgeons online so when I rand to book I asked, not realising at the time that none of them are specialists x

Re: Booked another consultation!
Sometimes the price is different for the same surgeon at different hospitals as the fee is made up of surgeon fees and hospital fees (eg your bed and anaesthetist), along with aftercare provision. Obviously all hospitals will charge slightly different rates, even within the same chain. I went to spire, couldn't fault them and would choose a private hospital over a clinic any day! x

Re: Booked another consultation!
If you're just after 2nd opinions, maybe try THG. They may not be BAAPS, but its a free consult with surgeon first. No need to go with them, just for the different opinion.

Re: Booked another consultation!
Personally, I had a surgeon that is baaps reg, and I went with spire too. I have never seen anyone other than my surgeon, no worry is ever too small either. I can get him direct by phone or email.
It did cost 60 quids for my initial consultation, normally 120, but every other time I want to see him its free and they insist on a week cooling off period after first consult before thy will let u book, they say ideally after a second consultation!
I had a consultation 7 years ahoy with a company, I didn't meet the surgeon and was pressured into booking. I didn't tho, thank goodness!
Anyway, the point im trying to make is that baaps people might be more expensive but so worth it! Plus, you get their special aftercare policy which is really good! :) x

Re: Booked another consultation!
Fantastic Charlii... that's what I wanted to hear, second opinion with a surgeon without having to pay. Not BAAPS but probably not going to go with them anyway!
Jen23 that's really reassuring, thank you! - I've heard about this week cooling off period.
When I see Mr Foo on Thursday I'm going to ask the difference between seeing him there and at the Spire, it terms of care etc! x

Re: Booked another consultation!
Mileto is a face/jaw surgeon, so don't bother there. The other two are general cosmetic surgeons, so take your pick really. Sforza has been working for THG longer...but the other one is easier on the eye ;)

Very bad reviews about Mileto online and THG not wanting to do revision work either

Re: Booked another consultation!
I contacted the spire in Bristol and was given a list of surgeons and then discovered that quite a few have their own private practice on the side! I would be charged £120 for a consultation with the same surgeon thro the spire but if I saw him in his own right at the spire it was free!may be worth seeing if any are the same in your area! Then used transform for two separate opinions!!

Re: Booked another consultation!
I'm unsure if you're aware of this Sarah, but it is possible to see BAAPS surgeons for as little as £25 through MyBreast.
Also....you could call Spire and ask about if you're unhappy with the surgeon you see could you possibly see another?
We have had ladies who have been able to see other surgeons through Spire free of charge if they've been unhappy with first consultations or just wanted to be sure they're making the right choice by being given the opportunity to other surgeons. Keep an line line of honesty with them and they can be quite accomodating Sarah...always worth a try. Xx

Re: Booked another consultation!
Thanks for the info Becky! - I've contacted Foo privately but he only works through the 2 clinics.. As well as the NHS so I don't blame him!!
Hi Cookie! I had heard this! so I rang, got no answer so I contacted through the online form and didn't hear anything back, that was before Christmas. So I may give them a call. Normally these places are quite efficient with emails!
Thank you :) x
