Hi, I had breast implants with an uplift (nipple scar only) 12 days ago. The left side had previously had an implant that had capsular contraction, whilst it its the first time an implant has been inserted to the right side. Only the right breast has had uplift. Generally I have felt really well and had stopped taking all pain relief, however the day after the dressings were removed I had to start pain relief medications again, and the right breast (the one with the uplift) has become swollen, with the swelling under my arm and around to my back. There is no redness to make me think it's infection, so I'm thinking I may have been too active, as I've driven the car a few times and have done other household stuff. I am going to have it checked out tomorrow at the clinic, but just wondering what others felt like at this point, and how active you were? I am starting to worry that I have done too much and this is my own fault.

In general if sudden swelling occurs it is as you say - overdoing things. There's no harm in going back to the clinic for a check up though is there...after all, this is what you paid for!

In the meantime, make sure you get lots of rest and use as little upper body movement as you can.

Let us know what the clinic says won't you. Xx

Thanks, I have felt so well that I suppose I have forgotten that I should be taking it easy, instead I have just carried on with normal everyday chores (dare I admit to already using the Hoover and ironing). Hopefully with rest, it will settle.

Oooooooo no hovering and ironing! It puts so much pressure on your new boobs. Often they look fine on the outside but what you're not seeing and what actually NEEDS all this time to heal is 'inside' the breast, so do lay off doing that mrsj. Get the OH or a mate to help whilst you're in recovery. Generally it's 6 weeks, so if takes a crumby carpet and wrinkled clothes for the next month for your boobs to finally heal then so be it...

It's worth mentioning mrsj that if you don't rest during this recovery period any aftercare you might have with the clinic could be made void. So do be careful babe. X

I have been very silly, I know. I have been told off by hubby and my mother! I will rest now. I hadn't though about aftercare policy etc. that's enough to stop me!

I have been back to the clinic today, the 1st nurse who I saw didn't seem concerned and felt I had a little more swelling but felt it was perhaps the result of not resting enough, then she took sutures out. However a 2 nd nurse came in and she felt that the swelling was significant and has asked me to return on Wednesday as if no improvement I may need to see surgeon as may have seroma. So I'm under strict instruction to not lift arms and rest, which I'm doing.

I think I have just over done it as felt so well last week so started doing more around th house and was also busy it was my son's birthday on Friday, so I'm no resting more. If been too by the clinic's nurse that a Seroma is a collection of fluid, that usually just get reabsorbed by the body, but sometime the fluid just continues to build up an needs drainage, which they do with needle whilst ultrasound scanning to check position of needle. The nurse told me that seroma' s are caused by being too active too soon. Really hope I don't need drainage, as I would have to travel to london again to see surgeon and I lib in the Midlands. Not a daft question Camilla, I wasn't sure what it was either.

I wasn't driving til 2 weeks post op, that alone can be a little too much (handbrake gears etc)
I was desperate to hoover but didn't til wk 3-4 ish....then used the little head on my knees rather than the big hose.

Having two young boys rest was not always easy. And very easy to forget things like lifting washing/pans etc.

Not long now though, a couple more weeks of very little activity and you'll be back up to many "usual" activities. xx
