Consultation today for Uplift and implants
Good afternoon Ladies,
I had my consultation today and feel a bit deflated, I need you to slap some virtual sense into me!
As some of you may know, I have been looking to get an uplift with implants following a big weight lost. I was all set to have it done within the next few months, and spent a long time on here researching and reading posts.
My PS was extremely likable and very thorough during the consultation. However he did not recommend an uplift with implants at the same time, and said i would be better suited to two separate ops. The likelihood of me needing revision surgery would be around 25% if i had a combined op, which would be chargeable. Two separate ops would mean 2 lots of time off work, and more money.
He also mentioned about having an uplift with fat transfer, instead of implants as I have a large loss of volume at the top of my boobs. Now as much as i would like to lose some extra fat off my belly, i can't see how transferring some fat could give me the fullness and perkiness i want. I have done a quick search on here, and from what I have read, it doesn't seem very popular. There is also the high probability that I would need top ups, which is something I really don't want to do.
I suppose I just feel a bit flat as I had my heart set on getting a combined op resulting in full perky boobs, only needing one lot of time off work, and financial reasons etc. As my PS has suggested that he would not advise me to get a combined op, then I trust his judgement. He is the PS of a fair few girls on here who have had an uplift and implants, so I know he does them, it is just not the right option for me.
Also, I am a wee bit concerned that he seemed to be favourable towards the fat transfer, when one of the resident surgeons on here seemed very against it.
He also said that it would be fine to start doing weights 6 weeks post op, which seems very early to me, and from what I have read on here.
Ahh ladies, I feel in all of a tizz. Nothing is ever straightforward is it?! I think I am just a bit concerned as I really thought he would be the surgeon for me, and now I have questions re the fat transfer, and weights issue.
I don't even know what I expect to get from posting this, as I have not really posed any question, just babbled on. No one knows I am thinking about getting this done, and so I have no one else to talk to about it.
On a side note, I have just moved back in with my parents, and I am really worried about how to bring this subject up! If i could get it done without them knowing, I would! I am such a worry wart.
Thanks for reading if you got this far xxx

Re: Consultation today for Uplift and implants
Hi Hun, firstly you can always vent and come on here to bAbble!
I'm sorry you found your consultation a bit deflating.
He is a good surgeon with a good reputation and he's advice is obviously tailored to you to give you the best result.
So would you be paying for one operation in 2 stages? Or separately ?
I can understand also recovery time wise would be more also.
Is he willing though to do the combined operation even with a 25% risk?
Maybe have another consultation to see what they suggest.
As for fat transfer, our dear cookie can enlighten you with her extensive research she has done on this!
It's hard when know one else knows the situation you are in and you cannot talk to anyone close about this. Have you maybe got a sister or cousin you are close with?
Also regards your mum, maybe talk with her first about it, you'll be surprised how she may be supportive and even come to consultations with you?
Especially knowing the great achievement you have done regards your weight loss and looking for surgery to put the cherry on the top so to speak!
You can't have this op without any support as you will need support and care for at least 24hours after you leave hospital.
Maybe also show her this forum and there's an inspirational story of 5stone down who like yourself lost well 5 stone and had an uplift and augmentation.
I will try and find the link to her story and the pictures she posted x

Re: Consultation today for Uplift and implants
Thanks for your v quick reply mrsball!
He has got a very good rep and the girls on here all seem delighted with his work it was thanks to this site I booked to see him!
With my practical head on, It makes perfect sense to have the 2 ops if I get a much better aesthetic look and less chance of a revision and he is pushing for the seperate ops. In my heart I was all set to be done by april though!
I would be paying for the 2 ops separately, he said I may not want the implants after the lift but I love the look of implants!
I don't really think he would do the combined op on me. As he said, its his work and he has to answer to it and be happy with it, as do i. Based on his opinion, I wouldn't get it done if he's not happy to do it.
Lol, I'm just silly! 30 and embarrassed to talk to my mum about boobs! There's no hope!
Ooh yes, I would love to hear what cookie has to say! She is a font of knowledge!
Thanks for the link, I think I read it months ago when I first joined, will do me good to sit and have a re read!

Re: Consultation today for Uplift and implants
Just reread my first post - I sound like a right sulky mare!! I have to trust he knows what would suit me best, and it's much better to pay more and be happy, then pay less, have a PS who isnt happy to do the op and possibly have to pay out even more for a revision.

Re: Consultation today for Uplift and implants
Don't be silly Hun, not sulky at all, sometimes our expectAtions are not met, but Putting on the sensible head you can see why he has suggested this.
And as for being 30 and embarrassed , certainly no need to think yourself silly. It's a very personal thing to talk about.
But take it as just enhancing your confidence and that you're taking it seriously doing extensive research and it's something you need to do for YOU to make you happy x

Re: Consultation today for Uplift and implants
Hey, sorry to butt in.
I don't know if u specifically found your surgeon or anything, so forgive me if im speaking out of turn.
Would it be worth having another consultation with someone else? Just to get another opinion? Jen x

Re: Consultation today for Uplift and implants
MrsBall, that is very true, its all about enhancing my confidence, I just need to grow some and have a chat!
Hiya Jen, you are not butting in, the more the merrier! I have been thinking about that, and researching other surgeons. If they said to me they could do it in one op, I would be delighted, but then i think there would always be a nagging doubt in my mind re what my PS said, and that I would have a 25% chance of revision surgery, which ideally I don't want.
Urgh, its all so confusing! xx

Re: Consultation today for Uplift and implants
I'm unable to copy and paste since a recent update on my iPad drinkoftea, but if you look in this fora at a sticky at the top called "combined uplift and implants are safe suggests study" it explains the research done in plastic surgery and reconstruction in 2013 and how they found there were no more risk in a combined surgery than there is in doing it separately and there have been a lot less women having the op seperately than there was when I first came here 5 years ago.
In regard to the fat transfer, I'd love to go down that road, I really would. But.... There's still no guarantee that your body is going to maintain the look and you would need to keep getting top ups. Plus, you will only gain one cup size fuller, two at most. I don't know if your surgeon told you that? The one cupsize wouldn't really bother me if I at least had some fullness, but it's a risk and I just couldn't live with no boobs. I KNOW that. My head would just be too messed up, so I'm opting to have an implant again. There's risks there too let's not forget that. But, for 'me', there'd be less heartache in dealing with an implant complication than there would be in dealing with the loss of fat and being completely deflated again. I'm hoping in the future things will have moved along further for me to go down that road, but not yet now 'for me'
There's a member here called Daisyday, I know she won't mind you messaging her if you'd like to. She's just had fat transfer and is actually very happy, so do contact her if you'd like to chat further on that. I. Sure she'd be very happy to help with any questions you might have.
Did the surgeon explain their reasons for suggesting two separate surgeries? Xx

Re: Consultation today for Uplift and implants
Thanks for the detailed reply Cookie!
Thats what puts me off the fat transfer, it seems like a lot of hassle what with the topping ups and only going up a small amount. I really like the look of round implants, and so think I would be really disappointed with the end result of the fat transfer. I'm just a wee bit concerned that he seemed to be pushing for that.
His reason was that he didn't think he could get the best result if it was combined. One boob is level 2/3 ptosis, while the other is already at a Level 3, so a fair bit of sag there. I think my case is a bit difference to some with ptosis, I have lost a lot of volume at the top of my boobs, but there is still a significant amount of boob swaying in the wind at the bottom. I know there has been a fair few girls on here who he has done the combined op on, so he does do them. xxx

Re: Consultation today for Uplift and implants
The decision is yours hun and from reading you, you do seem to have your heart set on this surgeon.
So if this is what your gut is telling you to go with lovely then go with the two ops. It's YOU who has to be happy and if this surgeon makes you happy, then I'd personally trust in 'his' judgement xx

You have hit the nail on the head there, I do want him, and I do trust his judgement...so I don't know why I am all confused!
