White dot on scar?

White dot on scar?
I've got a little white dot on one of my scars, probably been there for a week or 2, not particularly worried about it, but does anyone have any idea what it could be? It looks like a little bit of dry skin, apart from I'm guessing if it was that it would have come off by now. I'm resisting the urge to get the tweezers out and pull it! Its absolutely tiny, and doesn't look like a spot or anything. I'd wondered if it was a stitch as it's in the right place, but I had dissolvables and I would have thought they'd be gone by now (nearly 8 weeks PO). Thanks!

Yup, it sounds like a 'spitting stitch' Ella. Whatever you do don't be tempted to get those tweezers on becauae of the risk of infection.
Make an appointment for your clinic nurse who'll sort it out in seconds for you in a sterile environment. Xx

Agree with the girls on a spitting stitch. If your clinic is too far, the nurse at your local GP should be able to help also.

Oh Good! Sorry if this is a ridiculously stupid question but what exactly will they do to it? And what are the risks of leaving it? If it's just appearance I'm not too fussed because you practically need a magnifying glass to see it. Obviously if it's an infection risk or suchlike I'll get it sorted asap!

(I'd email my surgeon with a photo and ask advice, but it's so small I don't think it would show up)

The nurse won't do anything to you other than slightly move the skin surrounding it to find the end of the stitch - you will not feel a thing. Once the end is found it's removed and the hole closes almost instantly.
The risks of leaving it in are infection and you really don't want to risk that. It literally does take seconds to remove the stitch. You're in and out in no time, that's how quick and simple it is.
You 'could' go to your local nurse, but should there be any infection you 'may' risk your aftercare. X

Re: White dot on scar?
Just to add, if you call and ask if you could see your 'local nurse' because of the distance, then this will cover you should there be any trouble with it. But do ensure you have them add this to your notes. Xx
Re: White dot on scar?
Thanks Cookie. I'm off to see the nurse at my GP's surgery at 7.30. Does that mean I should ring Spire too then just to check with them? (sorry being a bit thick because I'm worrying!). x

Doesn't hurt to give them a call. Just say you've got a spitting stitch and that you're going to check in with your local gp to get it removed because of the distance, and for them to please add that to your notes. Should be fine

You're not thick at all hun
Yes, call Spire. I personally wouldn't say you already have the appointment, but I'd ask them if it would be OK to see your GP/nurse because of the distance to have such a simple procedure to remove the stitch by the clinic. They'll say yes, but it's so important to always cover your backside. Once you get the all clear then tell them you'd like your call logged and the reason for your call noted in your notes.
They really will be fine about it lovely. Just cover your backside

:-D cool, I've rung Spire and they're happy - sounded a bit bemused when I asked to have it added to my notes, but you can never be too careful, ey? I literally have no idea what I'd do without this forum, think I'd have been on the phone to Spire every 5 minutes! x

Re: White dot on scar?
Glad you're all sorted Ella
You're absolutely right, you can never be too careful at all.
I've read far too many girls upset, trying to claim on their aftercare and having difficulty due to their surgeon nurse/PCC/receptionist renege on what they said, leaving the woman having to prove what happened and fight for what rightfully hers.
Having all details in your notes leaves the clinic nowhere to go with it but to admit liability and give you what need from your aftercare immediately xx

Re: White dot on scar?
Okay, I'm back! The nurse wasn't convinced that it was a stitch, but whatever it was, it's OFF MY BOOB (I still think it was a stitch - did a bit of gentle prodding and it wasn't budging....) Better safe than sorry though!
