Pre BA test?
Hello,
I had a consultation with Dr McDiarmid however I forgot to ask if I would have to do any sort of test prior operation? For example blood test etc?
Would I have to do arrange it with my GP or it would get done on the day of surgery?
I would rather do whatever possible as I am scared of GA:(
Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Pre BA test?
Hey. Normally there is a pre-op which sometimes is at the clinic, sometimes (like mine) just over the phone. For me, I had to give them next of kin and previous BP. The on the day it was pee in a cup and go. But it depends on the clinic and you. If you've got known blood/hormone/etc issues, then they may ask for a blood test. Some also do MRSA swaps. But its all in your best interest to make sure you get the best care possible.
GA is nothing to be scared of. You are literally in the best place possible with trained professionals! Its just like dozing off, and waking up a bit drunk.

Re: Pre BA test?
I am such a wuss:)But having said that I know someone who knows someone who went to the dentist and died under GA. I think she was allergic hence why I am concerned as you never know.
I have never had any surgeries before and I would rather have some tests before surgery to give me peace of mind:)
Thank you for reply Charlii x

Re: Pre BA test?
Hi Camilla
I'm a newbie here. I had a consultation with Mr McDiarmid the same day as you and he didn't mention anything to me about blood tests either.
If it's any consolation, I think everybody has a friend who knew someone who went to the dentist and died under GA. It's a popular urban myth.

Re: Pre BA test?
Everyone knows someone with a friend's aunts sister who died/woke up under ga. It is a 'popular myth'. But it can also be true. It's rare, and your anesthetist is trained for those very circumstances. Like I said, you're in the best possible place if something did go wrong. But it's highly unlikely it will. Most people know if they're allergic. I had a friend who was and they knew very early in his life and he wore a medi band. If you're really that worried, talk to your surgeon

Re: Pre BA test?
Hi, I had my surgery with Jamed McDiarmid and I never had any blood/other medical tests, I just had a health questionnaire. I expect this is what he does for all patients unless they have some underlying illness etc :) xxx

Thanks Tilliex!
I think I am gonna ask for at least blood test. It would really scare me if they wont ask to do any tests:(
I am paranoid a bit:(
