Going alone!
I've been offered free transport which is amazing, I get a driver come pick me up, drive me the 1 1/2 hour to Bromsgrove and back the next day..thing is, that means I'm going it alone!
My friends and family know I'm the sort of person that that usually stays calmer if I do things on my own so no ones worrying, BUT for some reason I'm the opposite for this!!
Rather bite the bullet and not say anything to save anyone having to fork out for hotels and petrol (when it's being laid out for free!)
Has anyone had the free transport service??? And what's Bromsgrove like??
So much going through my head.... Still can't come quick enough though! Xx

Re: Going alone!
Hi. ,
I didn't use your hospital or transport so can't advise you, hopefully someone who has will be along shortly.
I am sure you will be just fine though and the drivers will have lots of experience. XXX

Yes I used transport to bromsgrove. It was fine. My journey was 3 1/2 hrs and I chatted a little to the driver and slept ALOT! Bromsgrove was nice, the staff were very friendly and helpful. I too was worried about going on my own so far but think it was actually better to have less fuss! I'm now 4 wks post op and the aftercare so far has been great too. Xx

Re: Going alone!
Hi
I have no experience of the transport thing but I
Was going to travel alone on the train to my surgery as my hubbie would be needed to look after the kids.
I was ok with this but my friend has now taken time off work to take me & stay there til I go down to theatre. She's a lovely friend!!!
I would of gone on my own but I do now feel happier that she is coming with me / even just for the company & to stop me from feeling nervous.
I think regardless of cost / just work out if you would actually want someone with you.
If not I'd definitely go for free transport!!
Xxx

Yeah I think I'm going to stick with my free transport. Think I may get more nervous if someone's with me so I'm going it alone! Make the most of the peace and quiet while I'm there I suppose haha x

Re: Going alone!
I have no hospital transport experiance, was offered it for my reop but didnt feel I wanted to be in a car for nearly 5 hours with someone I didnt know
For my first BA Peter dropped me off in Glasgow at the hospital at 11.45am and I was taken to my room at 12noon then all the usual things happened then the wait and was taken to theatre around 3.15pm, wheeled down in the bed, was great lol
Peter came to see me around 6pm that night with our youngest but wasnt there for long as I was talking crap and falling asleep lol
the second time for my reop I flew to manchester late on the sunday evening own my own, was a bit upset getting dropped off at the airport as my eldest starting to cry, got to the lush hotel in manchester and had a great wee night lol, all to myself double jacuzzi bath etc lol
Got up at 9am the monday left the hotel at 10.30am to be at the hospital for 11am, not going to lie I had a huge panick attack and was going to leave the hospital, i do have ahuge fear of needles and anything medical since my section with my youngest went wrong few years back
Anyway an amazing nurse came and got me and calmed right down gave me magic cream on my hand lol
i was suppsed to go down pretty quick but never went down to juts after half 4, a girlin theatre before me had gone against the rules and had food and was sick and it went into her lungs, nigthmare, i over heard a nurse in the phone!!!
So Peter was suppposed to drive down early on the tues to take me home but he arrived that night between 11pm and midnight, I found out a few days later its cause he had been called as i didnt do well under the GA
you will be fine if you think that you can manage it xx

Re: Going alone!
I didn't use your clinic, babe, so I can't relate to your experience.. However, I just want to say you're a very brave girl for considering going it alone! Well done you!!
I don't really know what to advise because I personally wouldn't want to go alone (I'm a big baby and I would want someone there with me when I woke up after my op) but you may be a lot braver than me.
Are you staying the night, babe? Or are you just a day case? If you're a day case then I'm guessing it wouldn't be that bad because you'd be seeing your family that same day anyway.. and you could always ring them and speak to them on the phone to keep you entertained whilst still in hospital haha :)
If you do definitely decide to go alone then a massive well done, babe, and an even BIGGER GOOD LUCK TO YOUU!!!! I think your excitement will probably outweigh your nerves to be honest ---Mine certainly did haha. I didn't have any nerves until I was actually lying on the theatre bed and then by that time it was too late haha..
Just think.. If you travel there and back alone you can give everyone at home a massive surprise when you get back!! :D
GOOD LUCK, EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!!!XXXXX

Re: Going alone!
I turned down the transport for a discount instead, as they wouldn't have let hubs come with in the car. But theres a few girls who have used it, and they've all had very good experiences, nice polite drivers, on time etc.
Bromsgrove is pretty dull, but if you did want someone to come/stay with theres a Travelodge 5mins away from the hospital.
