Take my mam with me?
Hi ive been in-touch with spire to book my main consultation.
they ave one free for Monday coming at 12pm.. but my mam starts work at 12.
but really should i be taking my mam with me, dont really wanna go alone haha?
or should i just suck it up and go myself.. they normally have a nurse in the room when he examines you dont they?

Re: Take my mam with me?
Hey Ambzdee, I took my mum along with me to all my consultations and she will also be coming with me to my actual surgery and staying across the road from the hospital.
I don't think I would have managed to do it without her support there.
I could've sucked it up and went by myself. But I am so self conscious about my breasts that I needed her there or I prob wouldn't have done it.
There was no nurse with me through any of my consultations with the actual surgeon.
My mum also asked questions I never even thought of even after all my months of research and lists of questions.
Do what makes you comfortable. Good luck :)

Re: Take my mam with me?
Hey Kati1236,
aw that's good, so im not the only one.. Yeah my mam is coming and staying in the actual hospital with me on the surgery day.. costing an extra £55 but im not bothered we will have an double room to ourselves haha!!
Yeah you would not of had an nurse in with you cos your mam was there, i think they only ask a nurse to come in if you have no one with you.
Thats why i want my mam there so she can take in everything he is saying as well as me, in-case i forget little bits haha!
Thanks Hun

Re: Take my mam with me?
yeah same with me, she remembered bits that I forgot..
She is also more rational about the procedure than me.. I want it end of story where as she wanted the best so grounded me a lot on that and eventually ended up with my perfect surgeon after 3 consultations, and she is very happy knowing who he is and what he is like. She really liked him.
I don't think people can stay in with me which is why she is going across the road :) only something like £35 inc breakfast, which I just remembered I haven't confirmed yet - need to give them a phone now it's all been confirmed today by the hospital :)
Also if you have your mum there you might not feel so much pressure, I probably would've went with the first surgeon I saw, which looking back would have been a big mistake.
try rearrange for your mum to be able to go with you :)
It might feel like it will take ages but I went from finding my surgeon to booking it that day for in 2 weeks time..

Re: Take my mam with me?
Its entirely up to you if you want your mom there, or anyone there with you. If you're alone, you can request a chaperone while you're getting your baps out. Any male on female medical examination is required to ask if you want one if you're alone.
Personally, I couldn't think of anyone worse than my mom being in the room with me! But that's me! I took hubby and he was along for the ride the whole way through. But I think it is good to take someone with you, because they can ask all the questions that maybe you don't think of or forget. Is there anyone else you can take? Dad perhaps?!? Or your nurse brother?

I went on my own but that was my preference, a nurse did come in when it came to examining my boobs tho. Do what ever makes you feel most comfortable XXX

Re: Take my mam with me?
Hi, babe!! I took my mum with me to my consultation with my coordinator (my first ever consultation) but after that i just saw my surgeon alone. There was no one in the room when he examined me and there was no one in the room when he examined me today post -op. I preferred being alone with him as i could voice my opinions as an independant individual and i think he took me more seriously! :)
It's completely your decision though, babe, if you feel more comfortable being with your mum then definitely go with her! :)tl
Take care, honey xxxx

Re: Take my mam with me?
Just rang them, they've told me no I can't because of insurance. She said if you're a child then your parents can stay, she asked how old I was, I told her 22 and she said no way.
I've just told her that my mate is at a spire hospital and she's (you) able to have someone there....... So she's going to double check and get back to me! I said if its one rule for one hospital and one for another I'm going to change.... xx

If not I'll have to man up haha.... I thought it would be too good to be true if they let me so I wasn't expecting anyone to stay with me anyway xx

Wow.... I can't believe they told me no straight away? If they are the same 'brand' hospital then why are the rules different? xx
