Sorry to ask a dumb Q but ...
How can u tell if a bra is too small?
I've only ever worn a 34/36A extra padded which due to lack of top boobs never fitted and there was always a gaping gap between boob and bra lol
But lately since my BA I've had one zip up 38D and 2 maximum support 36D's all from M&S
But I'm so sore and tender by the top of my boob right by my armpits, is this still swelling or could I be wearing wrong size bra?xx

12 days post op hunny, you'll still have some swelling, if they're the back fastening ones you can use bra extenders to save buying bigger backed ones which you won't need in a few weeks, however the extenders will allow for selling then pop them off once the swelling has subsided. Xx

I find this very difficult as well so it's NOT a dumb question!
I have worn a Macom size L since my surgery 18 days ago and when I have tried to wear a Macom size M my boobs starts to feel "bzzzz" after a while.
(my english is a bit limited and that was the only way I could describe the feeling )

Have you got a tape measure to actually find out what your band size is? It could be your band is too small and therefore they arnt supported enough hence the aching by your armpits? Does that sound like a possibility or is it very tight? If not then mrsballs tip advice about extenders is great xx

If I us just by your armpits babe its most likely caused by swelling and will feel better as the swelling reduces. In the meantime you could try using some cotton roll wadding and just padding that area out for yourself to help prevent the bras from irritating your skin babe.
If you have double boob though hun (where your boob is spilling over the cup) you'll need a larger cup size. Xx
