BA at BUPA Empty BA at BUPA

Post by Vixon 3rd October 2013, 7:53 am

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been on here for a while as have had so much going on at home, but, to cut a long story short, I have got divorced and now settled down with my new guy, who is amazing and we are unbelievably happy together. I have also got a new job and passed my final exam to become a qualified accountant (after 7 long yrs studying...!) SO now I feel I am finally ready to go ahead and treat myself to a new boobs, which I have wanted for such a long long time.

I do have one query though... I am heading towards mid-thirties and want to have children with my new guy, he'd love a child of his own (I already have a son of 13yrs old) and we have said we would like maybe 1-2 more children, but not for a couple of years yet, as we don't want to rush into such a decision, but I want to know if I am ok to still breastfeed after having this done and that they will be ok, if I have 1-2 children within the next 2-5 years? I really wouldn't want to have another op...

Any info would be great, from you lovely ladies thank you

Hello :)

Having a BA before children (well more children in your case lol) is normal!
Not being able to breast feed is a risk of having a BA however it is very uncommon and I'm not sure about other members here but I havnt heard of a lady unable to after her BA...a skilled surgeon will be aware of how to avoid this so I wouldn't really worry about this too much :)

How much they will change can differ from individual so it's hard to tell but I've seen a few ladies here who said that 'their' boobs havnt changed too much...

The general rule is really, of your planning to have children within a year or so wait but if it's a few years off you may as well be happy now if a BA is what you want because you don't know how they will be affect if at all :) xx

Thanks Jennifer :)
Yes I was thinking of starting for a baby next Xmas (2014), would this be ok?

And how long do you think I will need off work as I was thinking about getting it done a week before xmas this year, so that I have about 10-14 days off work if needed. I can then work from home for a week or so after that if needed.

Oh also, I was meant to mention I was thinking of getting it done with BUPA in Havant, Hampshire, not sure if anyone else on here has had their surgery there?? xxx

My surgeon said to me that there shouldn't be any reason that you cant breastfeed (within reason, as I know some women are unable to do it) as the implants sit behind the ducts so shouldn't cause a problem and as Jen says is a very low risk.

Work wise it depends what you do, office work I was told round about 7 days but a job requiring more manual handling would need 10-14days.. It also depends on your recovery too though.

You can normally breastfeed after a BA, but pregnancy and breastfeeding can 'ruin' the look of your new boobs, so you may have to have another op very soon after having children if you're not happy with how they look afterwards.

10-14 days off work should be just fine x

Thanks Princess, thats really what I wanted to avoid...
How will it affect the shape of them, will it make them saggy? Im so scared about surgery (and of course cost) that I want to avoid having any further surgery until I need to replace them years down the line...
What do you think the best option is??
Thanks :) xxx

Again everyone recovers differently, but for me I needed the two weeks so that should be fine!

Not sure if anyone has, you could type it into our search bar in the top right corner, I know we have ladies from Hampshire here but havnt heard of the bupa in Havant personally...

Well I'm 22 and had my BA last month, no children yet and if I'm lucky enough am planning on having them in the next 2-5 years... Maybe other ladies here with children will be able to give you better advice will be able to help out more... If you don't want to wait any longer then ild say it's definitely a possibility for you but maybe after you've spoken to a few surgeons they may say wait until after... Like I say not having children myself I'm not the best at that type of advice lol :) other women will help you out I'm sure!! Xx

Yes you can lose the fullness and perkiness of them. obviously no one knows how yours will look after pregnancy and breastfeeding as everybody is different, but it's a lot for new boobs to go through! They won't be the same as they were before pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you're planning children soon, then it's usually best to have your BA afterwards as it will 'last' you a lot longer, but if you're not planning on trying for a baby until the end of 2014, then I suppose it's your decision whether you put up with your current boobs for a while longer x

Most hospital have very good breastfeeding support for those who wish to breastfeed with implants so you will get help if needed :) I was warned in one of my consultations about a slight increased risk of CC following pregnancy (by MyBreast), but as I am not planning any more children I didn't look into it any further. It might be worth asking your surgeon what they perceive the risk to be. Either way, there will always be risks with any procedure, and always the possibility of further surgery at some point, so as long as you are happy and confident in your consultant that's all that matters :) Good luck xxx

Hi Vixon wavey

You're really not going to know at all how pregnancy will affect your boobs and none of us can advise on this because until YOU'VE been there and done that there's no way to tell how good the skin elasticity is and how well your boobs will bare up afterwards.

Not everyone's boobs are ruined after pregnancy. Some women with good skin elasticity will do great and some are even fortunate to maintain a nicer fuller breast afterwards too but you just don't know whether you'll be lucky/unlucky with your boobs until you've finished having your children.

Having a BA before having children really is an individual choice. When you weigh up the fact that implants don't last forever and in general will need changing by 10 years post-op, I personally don't feel it's a bad risk to take.

As long as you know what you're getting yourself into and know that aesthetically when you finish having your children your boobs may sag and not look how you liked them to when you first got them done and you're happy with that until you can afford to replace your implants or if the sagging is substantial it may be that you might require an uplift for your next op you'll do fine hun.

Breast feeding also shouldn't be a problem at all....

So as I said, as long as you go into this with your eyes wide open you'll do ok lovely. Some women prefer to wait until they get the kids out the way... Others think "sod it"! Lol life short, enjoy it whilst you can and deal with what needs dealing with when and if the time arises.

Starting a booby fund right away if you do decide to have the surgery s VERY important though.  Xx

Aww vixon, if you can wait then it could be worth it as you are planning on the end if next year however if you can't then equally like cookie said, not everyone's boobs are badly affected so it's up to you really, it's a tough choice but either way you will get your boobies :) good luck xx

Hi, I had my first ba in 2000. My daughter was born in 2002, she was breast fed for about 2 months. I had another daughter also breast fed and my boobs were fine after all this. They only really increased by one cup size. I do agree that it depends on the individual and your skin type but just thought I'd share my experience. X
