Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
Hiya girls,
Just a quick question as I'm getting a bit worried....
I have a condition called Hypermobility syndrome, it's not that common but it basically is the opposite of arthritis, my joints are too mobile so my muscles spasm around the joints. It does cause me some pain but I am still able to look after my kids easily.
I was a 38E when I was breast feeding and didn't experience any additional pain so when I spoke to my surgeon she was happy to go ahead.
I am so worried about having to sleep on my back though...has anyone had back pain before your op and what was it like sleeping on your back?
Thanks

Re: Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
I'm sorry to read of your troubles Lisa.
I have arthritis, I also have sarcoidosis which affects the nerves and causes my back to go into spasm (give me joint pain over spasm anyday) and the sleeping on my back wasn't easy at first and I won't lie babe, I fount it quite difficult. But I kept on top of the pain with my pain killers, a pillow fort (you can read up on that in the Breast Augmentation Information section > the things the clinic doesn't tell you) heat pads/hot water bottles and being sure I walked when I could then, I'm wheelchair bound just now.
You WILL cope hun so don't worry about that and its only two weeks propped up so not so long, although it may feel like a long time at the time lol.
Just get yourself prepared hun. If you have stronger meds for your bad days (I have oramorph) then be sure you have that in and have checked with your surgeon that's it OK to take. Don't stop taking of the meds that control your condition at all and keep both your surgeon and GP up to date with any changes that might be made and between them they will help to keep you as comfortable as possible. Xx

I'm sure you have discussed all your concerns with your surgeon, and if she is happy to proceed then I would just put some plans in place now to prepare you. Cookie has given you some great advice, I would also add try and keep your stronger painkillers for when you need them, and maybe keep yourself topped up with the milder ones for the 1st couple of days.
I had really bad back pain (PGP) in pregnancy so I bought myself one of the full body pregnancy pillows (obviously u'll be more on your back for the 1st few days, but it helps to supprt your whole body if you do shift a bit in your sleep) its great with some extra pillows at the top end to keep you more upright. I'll see if I can find an ebay link to show what I mean... xxx

Re: Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
Nowhere near as bad by any stretch, but I have lower back and pelvis issue. I wont lie, sleeping on my back and upright was difficult (on the nights I did sleep). I was achy and sore, and the noobies made things a little worse as my body was then hunched for a couple days and getting used to the new weight. But Im back in with my Osteo now and he's fixing it all up for me.
Just to reiterate really, if your surgeon is happy to go ahead with it, it'll be fine, just keep ontop of your painkillers. Also I'd say 90% of the girls here get either a V pillow or full body pillow, it does help :)

Re: Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
Cookie - Thank you, I am so sorry to hear of your condition. I feel (some of) your pain. Mine is a genetic condition that is likely to get worse as I get older and there is no cure, just muscle strengthening exercises in hydrotherapy. Thank you for the advise, I will look up pillow forts - I'm sure my 3 year old will be fascinated by this!
I take Tramadol daily, only once or twice a day so its not the full dose but it does effect me. I also take a few other anti inflammatories and amitriptyline in small doses to help with pain.
Thank you for the link Gleaming, I think I still have a maternity pillow somewhere so I will try that as well.
I sorry to hear of the pain Charlii, lol I can tell you have an iphone with the 'noobies' mine does that all the time! Glad you're feeling better and thank you for telling me how you got on.
Thank you girls, I feel better now. I know my implant size sounds huge but they say it wont be too heavy and if I went smaller they would be smaller than I was before....
I glad nobody told me I was mental for having it done with a bad back!!
Thanks again girls. I don't know what Id do without you lot

Ooh no, cant stand the iphones! Its just easier to type noobies than new boobies!
The CC is the same as grams, so you'll have an extra 1120gs to carry around. Have you tried making rice boobs? This would give you a round about idea of the weight. You get used to it quite quickly though.

Re: Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
ahh, I get it now ha ha!
I've made rice boobies (the neighbour came to the door when I only had one in!) and they felt ok. I wear gel bras at the moment that are soooo heavy as they have so much gel in them so they can hurt my shoulders if I wear it for too long.
The rice boobs look enormous though so I'm hoping they wont be that big! Does it take long to get used to them? I went from massive when breastfeeding to nothing at all and it all happened very quickly! That seems like a lot of grams though

Re: Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
I think the rice boobs do come up larger, as theyre on top of rather than inside. It'll take a couple of weeks to get used to them, but thats mostly because the swelling and bruising will make you hyper aware of them. It seems like a lot, but if thats what you and your surgeon have happily agreed on, then theyre right for you

Re: Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
Yup, my condition is also incurable babe and has got progressively worse over the years but its never stopped me doing anything I want to do... Where there's a will, there's always a way as they say lol.Lias6246 wrote:Cookie - Thank you, I am so sorry to hear of your condition. I feel (some of) your pain. Just be sure to discuss this with your GP and also your consultant too if you're under one so they can all work together to ensure a good recovery for you.
It could be that you'll need quite a bit of pain killers initially after the op, but you can again reduce that as the swelling eases off over the week.
Honesty is key hun. Its not worth hiding any your medical history or meds for the sake of having boobs, as long as everyone who has you under their care is aware lovely... You'll do just fine
Re: Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
Thanks Cookie, I agree, where there is a will there is a way! It doesn't stop me messing about wrestling with the kids- although I always regret it afterwards! I guess I just get used to being in pain and only take the meds when I really need them.
I've just moved so I've moved gp's and my old gp hadn't go a clue about it anyway and neither does my new one. I am under a consultant but the only problem is because the condition is so rare there is only one in the whole country and I've only ever been able to see him once, there are people with the same condition who also have EDS which can be life threatening so I'm way down on the list of priority it get an appointment to discuss boobs!
I have been honest with the surgeon and her team but they didn't seem overly concerned about it. It does effect me but it's not so bad that I can't lead a normal life if that makes sense.
Hope you're not in too much pain today

Re: Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
Ahhh I see. I had to have permission from my GP/consultant to clear me for surgery. But if you're in good health otherwise there shouldn't be a problem, although you may want to make your GP aware just incase you do need additional pain killers and can't get out of the house hun. At least then the GP will be fully understanding of your condition and will no doubt prescribe without you having to go in to see them... Like I said, its all about looking ahead and pre-empting the possibilities and getting those covered. Xx
Re: Has anyone had a ba with a bad back?
Hiya cookie, I never even thought of that. Thank you, what a good idea!! I will definitely make them aware in case I need stronger meds. Thanks again x
