Cold boobs when running & no nipple sensation Empty Cold boobs when running & no nipple sensation

Post by Corrina_Corrina 19th September 2013, 10:46 pm

Hi ladies,

I was wondering whether any of you ladies who run regularly experience the same as me after running.  I say 'after' because it's only when I get my kit off afterwards that I notice it.  My boobs are always cold after running (more so on the outer sides), even in warm weather.  I realise this is something to do with blood supply, but it also makes me wonder whether this blood supply issue has some bearing on the fact that 15 months post BA, I STILL have no nipple sensation. I'm giving up hope with it to be honest, I know people say it can take up to 2 years to come back, but there has been no change whatsoever in how they feel, since I had my op.
I just googled the loss of sensation after BA I found some info regarding the severing of a particular nerve, if the surgeon doesn't isolate it.  I'm wondering whether this is what has happened to me (in addition to blood supply issues).  I think it may have, because as my boobs themselves healed, there were changes in the sensation & how they generally felt over time, whereas I can't say the same for the feeling (or lack of) in my nipples.  They have been as numb as numb can be ever since.
Overall, I don't regret my op at all, but whilst it's given me one thing, it's taken something very pleasurable away.  Argh!!

It can actually take up to two years for full sensation to return Corrina, so don't give up on the sensation returning just yet babe.

The cold boobs... We'll all experience this at some time hun.

Our implants are placed outside of the chest wall and therefore aren't warmed with the body so its common for boobs to feel cold and to take a lot longer to warm up than the rest of your body.

Nothing to worry about though. Glad overall you're happy with your result lovely and just hope that in the coming year your sensation is returned so you can get your full enjoyment from them hun. Xx

Thanks Cookie :)  I keep trying to stay positive about it, but it's hard sometimes & I start thinking I'll be one of the 2% that lose it permanently!
Yes, that makes sense of course about the coldness.  My only other concern about that, is I'm going to start marathon training at the start of December & worry about them being so cold, they become necrotic!  I say this tongue in cheek mind!  But I do wonder all the same!  Xx

I've noticed the opposite...mine can be hot. My friends have been known the put there hands down my top as a joke in the winter as "hand warmers" lol! X

Mine are cold after running or cycling, though tbh I think mine were pre BA.

I think its the same thing as when you're body is cold, the blood goes from your extremeties to keep your core organs warm. If you think of your boobs as an extremety, plus the fact that its a foreign object with no blood supply, all the oxygen and blood is going to be diverted away from there and into the heart and lungs. Does that make sense? Mine are definitely slightly colder after running.

Jeni, I attempted a jog at 6wk and it was horrible. I had a shockabsorber, but didnt like it much. Your body will let you know when you're ready to get back jogging. I used to only do 10-20mins 3x/wk, but im really struggling to get my fitness back up, so breaking myself in slowly. Im now using a triumph triaction extreme, and theyre not going anywhere!

I use a Shock Absorber bra & I love it.  I guess everyone has their own preferences & everyone's body is different.  I think I first ran after BA about 4 weeks & found it ok.  I was worried about loss of fitness, but also worried about the first run thinking 'what if they bust open the wound & they flop out on the ground!!'.  Ok that's a bit of an exaggeration!  But proper support is vital of course.
I wonder if someone would invent a self heating bra, activated when your boobs drop below a certain temperature! Xx

I use a Triumph Extreme, it's amazing, boobies are very secure!

I was given the all clear to run earlier than I actually decided to start up again. I was very cautious and I expected them to be a bit sore the day after my first run, but they weren't - the bra is good. I think I started at about week 5 post op, though I had already started other exercise.

I have bad circulation so all my extremities get cold, I run in long socks and I think I may start with the gloves next week!

I bought 4 different sizes to try on, and the best fitting in the Triumph was the same size as my wires (32DD). Youd have thought that the 32D would have held them tighter, but because of the shape of the bra and the roundness of my implant still, it actually fit worse, and left a big saggy nipple gap! I think my shock absorber is a 34D. I would definately try and get out and get one fitted/try them on. House of Fraser stock the shock absorber for trying on if you wanted to buy online after!

Don't try and squish them in! Go and get fitted, the bra will do the work of containment!

I bizarrely had the shock absorber given to me & it just happened to fit perfectly!  (it was still tagged, my mate who gave it to me had never worn it).  Yes, my fear was them falling out too!  Mine is 34D & snug as snug can be.
I also have Raynaud's so always have cold hands & feet, unless the weather is really warm. They've already gone back to their generally cold selves (even though the weather's not that cold yet).  Also super annoying as I play the piano too, but that's another story..! xx
