going to the gym
I am just over 3 weeks since having my ba and was considering popping to the gym for some light leg work. Please don't shout at me it was just something I was thinking about!

Has your surgeon said this would be ok? Mine said yesterday that I can exercise from 3-4 weeks. Gently! X

Re: going to the gym
Unless you've been given the all clear from your surgeon Misty its just not worth the risk.
Not only do you risk the possibility of delaying your recovery and that then puts back the time when you can get back to regular excercise, but at worse you could risk a complication that puts you back in theatre.... AND with not following your surgeons instruction any revision required could be to your cost because you would then be making your aftercare null and void.
Speak with your surgeon Misty. If they say its OK then that's fine. If not... A few weeks more isnt a heck of a lot of time to wait in the grand scheme of things is it. Xx

Re: going to the gym
I know how you feel honey, my surgeon had said NO CV AT ALL for a minimum of 4 weeks, gentle walks yes, gym NO. Simples. Hard to digest I know but its so not worth invalidating your after care babe.
I'm only 4 days post op and I already wanna get up and about and crack on. Don't know about you but I've found because I was so fit preBA I've not struggled at all, I can get up and about, us my arms, my stomach muscles help me get up out of bed. The only thing I'v not been able to do is lift my arms above my head for a few days and now I even do that!
I drove today for the first time as well with no problems.
I will be careful though, I'd be devastated if I ruined them by over doing it. Even though I HATE them today. Lol xxx

Re: going to the gym
Hun at 3weeks postop you may feel mentally ready but your body won't be! Even light leg work, your body is trying to recover from a big operation it doesn't need the stress put upon it from doing excersie at a gym!
Enjoy the time off from the gym And recover , even when you go back around 6 weeks you'll find you won't be able to do everything you did before straight away. X
