BA AFTER breastfeeding...??
Ooookaaay.... so today didn't quite go as planned...
Had my consultation with the consultant I kinda wanted, after seeing the main chains who practically handed me the scalpel to sign the consent form with, the consultant I saw today pretty much said no... He said he wouldn't even consider doing breast implants until it had been a year since I breastfed (it's only been 4 months but they most definitely have no milk left, there'd be no room to store it lol), he also said he would advise partials, anatomicals and no more that 220cc... I was kind of hoping for round and a little bit bigger than that...
I know its only one consultation, and I still have another 2 booked, but the fact that he is an NHS breast reconstruction surgeon (head of department) as well as a cosmetic surgeon, he's kinda scared me now... Has anyone else had implants pretty close to stopping breastfeeding??? HEEELLLLPPP!!!!
Thanks in advance,
Sarah xxx

Re: BA AFTER breastfeeding...??
From what I've seen here babe, the standard seems to be 6 month post breast feeding before having a BA so that not only your milk has dried up but your hormones too have all settled down and everything has gone back to normal.
So, have a few more consultations babe. From what I've seen from many women having surgery after breast feeding here 6 months tends to be the big standard, so all is not lost babe... You're right to see a few more surgeons before making up your mind. Xx

I went for my consultation the other day, my surgeon is BAAPS and. BAPRAS registered, & works for the nhs. He said to me that you have to wait atleast 6 months after breast feeding, (i only stopped 2 months ago) as although its dried up, the surgery can stimulate the glands into producing milk again. I would definitely trust these surgeons, as they know what they're talking about -& have more scruples I think -than some that just want to take our money xx

I just re read yours and saw that he said a year - maybe he's just being overly cautious?? So yeh I think you will have to wait the other 2 months, but if yiu don't agree with what he's said then definitely get some more opinions x

Re: BA AFTER breastfeeding...??
Thanks Cookie, from the research I've done I was under the impression it was 6months too, so today was a bit of a shock... I'm back to work in Feb after taking a year+ annual leave maternity so its gonna be almost impossible to take any time out to get it done then... I'll have to wait and see what the next 2 say I guess and do a bit more research on BAs following breastfeeding. Cor, if I ever decide to do my masters I know what my subject matter will be already... lol xxx
Thanks Becciann84- I was hoping to get it done late Oct/early Nov which would have allowed a 6month break, but he said the earliest he would even consider is next March !! xxx

Awww, feel for you but you have to listen to the experts - you want the best possible result, no point rushing and then having problems later on.

Thanks hun, seeing another consultant at a different hospital who also has an excellent reputation so if he gives me similar information I am happy to wait the full year - I'll not be taking any risks xxx

Re: BA AFTER breastfeeding...??
Hi
I stopped breastfeeding in March this year and I'm booked for October. I was told about six months too.
I suppose every surgeon is different and they all have preferences. Get some more advice and make your mind up then. Always best to get lots of opinions before committing anyway.
Gleaming, are you going back to work full time or part time? I've just recently gone back after baby number two. I'm working four days a week and it's a shock to the system after a whole year off!!x

Re: BA AFTER breastfeeding...??
Thanks hun, I have a feeling the consultant was being overly conservative, but I'll see what the next 2 say later this month :)
I'm going back part time- because hubby spends half his time in the army barracks it's already hard with childcare. I'm planning to work one day and one night per week (hospital shifts are 12.5hours). Even that will be a shock to the system though-especially recovering from a night shift with the pair of them lol.xxx

Re: BA AFTER breastfeeding...??
Hey,
I'd recommend seeing a couple of surgeons. I saw 3 I think. The first told me that she would only give me 200cc otherwise they'd look horrible and fake. She also does reconstruction for the NHS so I think her whole ethos is to promote a realistic breast size for body frame if that makes sense. Well I saw another few surgeons and basically the one I went with managed to get 375 in no problem and 2 years on from then they certainly do not look horrible and fake. Yes, they look big for my frame but not HUGE which is what I wanted.
I also think a year is really quite a long time to wait after BFing. My friend waited only 4 months but then again I'm not sure she even told the surgeon as she thought it wasn't relevant.
Xx

Re: BA AFTER breastfeeding...??
Hey Gleaming, I feel your pain. I am also an Army wife! Hubster is in the Royal Engineers here in Tidworth.
He disappeared off for 7 months of last year! It's definitely fun with two little munchkins and juggling life when they're not here!! I'm sure he's away more often than he's home!!
Good luck with the next two consultations. Hopefully you'll be able to make a decision soon. I agree, sounds like the first surgeon was being overly conservative!x

Re: BA AFTER breastfeeding...??
Oh god, I'm worried now after reading this!!
I breastfed my baby for 6 months and only stopped mid July, my first consultation was mid August as I realised how bad they were. I'm having my ba and uplift on 30th of October - just over 3 months from stopping. I'm going with a baaps registered surgeon and she has a load of other qualifications so I'm sure she knows what she's talking about....
A year does seem excessive! Are you really small framed which is why they will only go up to that size? X
