I'm hoping to have BA mid Sept and I'm off to Egypt end of November where I will be doing a lot of diving.....

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
Why?? I only dive to 30m.........do you mean I won't be able to dive at all or I won't be able to dive that quick?? I've already researched about the diving and its not a problem.......I just can't find anything that says how long post op I have to wait
If I have to wait, I'll have to cancel all me leave for next month and re-think about waiting until after my hols as theres no way I'm giving that up -its already paid for!!!

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
Scuba diving probably isn't advised although I would certainly ask about this at your consultation. I am 2 months post op and although I am back to my normal self I wouldn't feel comfortable with scuba diving!
The answer to this may also depend on whether you require under the muscle implants or over? If you have unders, I think it may be highly unlikely that diving would be advised as your muscles need 8-12 weeks for recovery and even after that, exercise should be kept to a minimum.
Check with ur surgeon hun.. we can only give you advice based on what we have been told by our surgeons... but every clinic will offer their own advice xxxx

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
If the diving is really important to u on your hols, then maybe it be sensible to rethink and do after your hols. I thought a gentle bit if scuba would be ok but sculptural diving be very different, u don't want to split anything that has healed. If u are under the muscle u will have layers of stitching underneath that u can't see and it may be too soon.
You will be paying a lot of money for your BA so it's really important that u give yourself the best recovery possible to avoid any complications.
It's all worth thinking about xxx

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
hi hun,
good question! i think you should probably be careful about submerging your scars in water for longer periods of time early post op, but your clinic will be able to advise you on this. maybe steri strips or covering your scars would be a good idea as well..
also i suppose something to think about would be how tight your wetsuit is (if you're wearing one in egypt?) and how tight the wetsuit and your bcd are... don't suppose you want to put too much pressure on the new boobies!
last thing to think about is be careful about how much weight you carry with all your equipment, but having said that i have carried a 10kg suitcase at 6 weeks post op and i feel completely fine doing so!
but if you feel in any way unsure, i think the best thing to do would be to discuss this with YOUR surgeon as he will advise you on the best care and recovery instructions for YOU which is the most important thing xx
i hope you manage to sort everything out, do let us know xx

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
Depending on when you get the all clear to 'treat your boobs as normal' which is 'generally' between 6 - 12 weeks, you WILL be able to dive after that hun.
After you've gone through your recovery barring any complications there's no reason whatsoever why you shouldn't continue to do what you enjoy sweetie. Whether that will be in November... Well, that's dependent on your healing and the post-op care advised by your surgeon.
If you're surgeon requests a 12 week recovery, then you sadly won't be able to dive hun and may infact find yourself still in sportsbras too. But you disguise this wearing crop tops to cover your sportsbra with bikini bottoms. Xx

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
Thanks guys! I was actually thinking the saltwater would be good for the scars and the compression of the wetsuit would be good too!
My current plan is to have the in incision under the breast, I don't think it would be possible if I had it under the arms as thats where the BCD straps rest. Kit is heavy.....but obviously once you're under water its all weightless and all the work is done by your legs.
I've got my surgeon consultations this month so will see what they say. Will be so disappointed if he says I'll be too soon! I'll have to put the BA off and I've got the funds all ready and waiting! But divings is my first love.......typical really, usually we don't dive through winter but this year we decided to beat the winter blues before they hit
Will keep you posted after I've seen the surgeons, thanks again xxx

All you can do is stay positive sweetie - but also prepared, which I think you are anyway. TBH I'd rather have the holiday and then have op after, that way your not putting any stress on yourself and you can go diving without worry about possible injury etc...x

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
I had unders and although I resumed much of normality after 6 weeks - I couldn't return to yoga for 3 months as bearing body weight on my arms was prohibited. Yoga is my fav pleasure. I could've gone to class & substituted for all moves that were on my arms - but that's like going diving and just peeping under the water! Useless.
So I waited. I'm still working back up to my previous arm strength - but I would't have it any other way. Healing has to be the most important thing after surgery - all other priorities have to be de-moted.
If I were you, I would just get boobies in the new year & enjoy your hols.

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
I know it makes sense guys, I'm just trying to talk myself round it and convince myself otherwise! If the surgeon says no I will listen, its not worth causing my own complications I know that! I'm an ambulance technician so of medical background I know rest and healing is important. We'll just have to see.......awww feel a bit deflated! Hmph lol! Xxx

Awww don't feel deflated sweetie. Youve still got your holiday to look forward too and you never know your new boobies as planned. It's an emotional roller coaster that's for sure hun ;))) x

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
Aw don't feel deflated, wait and see what the surgeon says, but at least u can mentally prepare for all eventualities, and u will ultimately get ur new boobies, it's just u may have to wait that tiny bit longer if u get them post holiday. And u won't have the stress of worrying about them just the excitement of their imminent arrival whilst u on ur hols Xxxx

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
Ha ha no worries......I did wonder when you said about deep sea diving lol ;-)
It really is an emotional rollercoaster! I'm only at the beginning and I feel exhausted, since starting researching I've been able to think about nothing else. Boobs boobs boobs! Just when you think you've covered every eventuality about how it will effect you and your lifestyle and something else comes up! My poor boyfriend is sick of hearing about it lol.
Everyone on here is so friendly and helpful I'm finding it really invaluable. Thank you all xxx

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
Just wondering at 2 months post op how much pressure you would be able to put on your boobs without doing any damage. Don't know what depth you dive to or how much water pressure there is at that depth but be interested to know what your surgeon says.

Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
Surgeons have been known to run over breast implants in their cars to test how robust they are and they were still intact and that's a fair lot of pressure on the implant, so if they can survive that, I'm sure they can survive a dive, especially at just 30M xx
Re: New Boobs and scuba diving!
Oh Cookie I love you girl! I just pmsl at that message......I could envisage a load of surgeons down Madeira drive in Brighton with their expensive cars all jeering at each other about who's implants were the best because they've run them over the most!!!
And hey guess what.........the surgeon I've had my heart set on with Mya, Mr Frati.......well my PC called me today with a massive discount! Still £200 more then transform BUT with more expensive implant which is apparently £400 more with transform anyway. I'm so so pleased, from what I've read the aftercare with Transform can be a bit hit and miss too whereas ive not yet read anything like that about Mya. Wooowho!
