time off work...
Hi girls.
When I get round to having my uplift I will of course be taking a couple of weeks off. Has anyone taken it as sickleave or holiday. No sure where I'd stand in my job.
Sorry if I should have posted this elsewhere :o x

Re: time off work...
Hi SharonM, I'm lucky in the fact I've got my own business, so I booked as holiday as soon as I knew dates, I'm worrying how much time to take. As I'm a hairdresser and using my arms loads I'm hoping 2 weeks enough. My surgeon has said 2 weeks to be on safe side....
2 of my staff had there boobs done and booked 2 weeks holiday, they came to me and told me why etc...... And I did say if they needed more time to let me know....
I suppose at least if you have as holiday, you still get paid... A lot of places don't pay sick now. So I suppose it depends on the company you work for.... X

I agree with Bizzy hun, its best you find out your options first before booking any time time off and working out which would be more beneficial to you.
If you're going to take 'sick leave' you'll have to self certificate the first week off and then get a sick note from your GP or surgeon for the second. If you have a job that requires heavy lifting your GP can also sign you off from heavy duties for a period of 6 weeks throughout your recovery.
If you're planning to take the time off as holidays then ensure you have enough days left and the days open that you're wanting for yourself babe. Xx

Thank you both...
I work for the NHS and get sick pay but what I meant was I'm not sure if I'll be entitled to it as it's an elective cosmetic procedures. My job also involves the carrying of case notes which can sometimes be heavy. I'll just have to find out a bit more before I commit.
Anyway, that's a long way off yet -unless I win the lottery ha.
Once again thank you girls :)

Re: time off work...
Hi Sharon,
I took two weeks off as sick leave, I only disclosed to my work that it was for surgery, no other details than that which they were comfortable with (obvo different for each employer what level of detail they require). My GP gave me a sick note covering two weeks off citing Post Operative Recovery, no other details. So you can avoid the disclosure that its elective if you needed to. Note your GP will only sign off your sick note post surgery and not before, which means making a trip to the GP during your two weeks off.
In addition I would say on the length of time off, although I felt ok to drive to work at two week point, my boobs have been sore each day this first week back at work, so I kinda wished I had arranged just part time hours this first week. Each person is different in their healing so you might find two weeks is fine, but if you can get away with it, try arrange for three and go back early if you feel up to it and if flexibility from your employer allows? You should not carry anything heavy until 6 weeks too.
Hope that helps hun Xx

Ah hope your first cons goes well tomorrow hun, just ask every question you have, don't hold back, there are no silly questions! Checking their experience is a key point, if they have reconstructive experience, this would be great for an uplift. Good luck! Let us know how you get on. :-)
Ah thanks hun, I'm feeling fine now, you do go lots of through ups and down on this journey!! Lots of prepping will help xx
