Glued together???
Hi all,
So in have my one week check up yesterday and discovered that my surgeon has glued the incision together. I have internal stitches ( they are visible but dissolvable) but no external blue stitches like last time.
Has anyone else had glued incision? Can I wash the glue away? Or leave it to dissolve by itself? I have been given the nod to shower but I can't say I really want to as paranoid I will get an infection.
Any advice will be fantastic and help me get in the shower quicker :0)
Thanks ladies
Xx

Re: Glued together???
Thank you halo....... This is the first time I've heard of gluing. Bless the nurse yesterday I did bombard her with questions about work and gym, completely forgot to ask about the glue. It looks so odd too lol.

Re: Glued together???
I'm sorry I don't know the answer as I'm still pre-ba but I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as my surgeon said that he'd be doing this for me.
He said there would be dissolvable stitches but there would be glue on the outside to prevent infection.
Thanks for the thread :)

Re: Glued together???
i have this glue too! My surgeon uses it on top as he feels it has the added bonus of protecting the wound from 'bugs' and possibly causing infection. i dont have my first post op til thursday so i'm not really sure what happens to it so not much help really! xxx

Re: Glued together???
Thank you better than toast, it looks odd having it glued as I still have the first pictures of when I had stitches with my original op, i assumed the surgeon would do the same.
Hopefully this will help us both :0) not long until your op I bet your so excited :0) xx

Re: Glued together???
Thank you selena, how r u recovering? I'm so in need of a shower but don't want to because of the glue. It's reassuring to know that the glue acts like a barrier, hoping not to have a reoccurrence of cc. So any added protection is a bonus. :0) xx

Re: Glued together???
i think i'm recovering ok hun. How about you? i still have alot of discomfort and the bottom portion of my boobs is very sore, almost burning with that i've also got the sensation of the implants pulling down so i'm walking around holding onto them for dear life in case they fall off! still walking slowly but thats because any quicker movement just pulls on my boobs.
Hoping this is all very normal though and like you, i am in desperate need of a shower but waiting until my post op on Thursday before I have on (i feel disgusting right now!) xx

Re: Glued together???
Hey hun
I had the disolvable stitches too! I was given medipore tape to place over them and was given the all clear for a shower at one week post op. i was told just to avoid rubbing any soaps on the scar area :) x

Re: Glued together???
Hi, I had the same as you. I had my dressings removed at one week post op and the micropore tape was left in place. I was allowed to shower following this. I was told I could have a proper bath after three weeks but gentle showers before then. My micropore tape was literally hanging off on the one said so I removed it and the scar was perfect hardly anything there so I re-dressed it back with fresh tape. The other side was also hanging off so I took this off and it looked like some of the glue was coming away with the tape! I therefore re-stuck the tape back on and left it a while longer. I did ring the clinic and they said that it was normal and not to worry. I left it a couple more days and then removed the tape and the glue had gone!? Not sure if this helps you at all. xx

Re: Glued together???
I think it's Fairly normal for your incisions to be glued rather than stitched now hun x obviously there are internal dissolvable stitches. The glue will disappear on it own hun, don't try and pick or rub it off x

Re: Glued together???
Many surgeons are using glue now as a protective cover over the stitches. I don't know of anyone now that has the permanent blue stitches anymore. They all use dissolvable now (although due to an allergy to them I'll be the exception from now on lol)
It acts as a waterproof protection as well... Have you been told you may shower?
It will dissolve in its own good time and there's nothing at all to worry about. Xx

Re: Glued together???
Thanks ladies for all your replies, so helpful and reassuring, guess a lot changes in two years lol.
Cookie I have been given the all clear to shower but I'm not allowed to submerge the incision in water.
I will shower tonight ( after a week) and hopefully this will help remove the glue unfortunately I have picked all the glue from the skin around the incision as it irritates lol, I should have asked this sooner.
Thanks again ladies you are all fab

Re: Glued together???
Thought so
I think the being able to shower is one of the most beneficial things about having glue. I think you feel better in yourself when you're clean. I know when I couldn't shower for over six months it really got me down (my surgeon didnt use glue) and this is something I myself would stress I'd like when having further surgery in the future.
Enjoy your shower Jen. Xx

Re: Glued together???
6 months...... Wow now I am thinking I am fortunate. I think the gluing technic is interesting however I have found it more uncomfortable then the original, stitched incision however I have been told that gluing provides a better infection barrier which is a bonus.
I can't wait to shower later, 7 days no shower is long enough lol

Re: Glued together???
It is!!! I had an allergy to the dissolvable stitches though so had to keep the wounds dry - I stunk Kidding! I only have a shower, I don't have a bath, so had to use the shower head very strategically to keep myself clean with a flannel wash around the under arms and over the boob area.
Never felt quite clean though but it was the best I could do. I felt mingling even if I wasn't lol. Xx
