After the op what happens...
Hi
I was just thinking in bed last night when u wake up from surgery what do u do?
Do u get up and walkin, sleep or rest?
Probably a strange question but I like to understand exactly what happens so I am prepared.
I'm going to abbey pines through transform if that makes a difference!
Last thing do u have drains in only in hospital?
Thank u x

Re: After the op what happens...
When you wake up they will make you rest hun x you won't be allowed to go to the toilet on your own, but that's because the GA can make you lose your balance x after about an hour or so you will be able to have something to eat and drink. I can't help with the drains as I didn't have any x you will have a buzzer for the nurse so if you need the toilet or anything just buzz it and someone will come x

Re: After the op what happens...
When I had my BA, all I did was rest up. They don't make you do anything. They told me that if I needed anything then I must press the buzzer for them, that's even if I wanted water which was right next to me! The one thing they will want you to do though is go to the toilet (wee) lol but not alone, you will need to call for a nurse for that! They wouldn't discharge me unless I went to the toilet. After mine though I was sitting up and doing everything normal within an hour of being brought back up to my bed. I think it all depends on yourself and how you are when you come round. Transform are great, I was at riverside in London with them and I can not fault anything. The nurses were lovely and the aftercare is amazing! You will be fine, it's like a whirlwind really. I wouldn't worry too much about the after part, they will look after you wonderfully! Good luck xx

I was told to sleep and if I needed the toileg to ring the buzzer for a nurse, they wouldn't let my OH take me because of the ga. You will then be given something to eat about an hour later. X

Re: After the op what happens...
I was advised I needed help with getting up, goin to the loo extra for the next 24 hours & I would need assistance due to GA and if you do get drains believe me you will need it, I'm abit stubborn and went to loo on my own early morning and it took about half hour!
My first trip to the loo even with 2 people helping me was very much appreciated as I was soooooo wobbly but then again I'm not very good with GA, it took the nurses over an hour to wake me and I babbled for ages, even grilling the nurse if the cats had been fed! All the while you in hospital rest my love you will need it and as Lisa says your nurse will be at a push of a button :) xx

Re: After the op what happens...
I was soooo sleepy after my op all I did was just that only woke up every time the nurse came to check my blood pressure. I was gonna go to the toilet on my own but I got caught and told off by the nurse! Just as well as I had drains and a drip all stuck in me. They take ur drains just before they discharge u and just be warned .... OUCH!
I probably had 2 jugs of water whilst coming round and then dinner and off home u went.
Very pleasant experience overall x

Re: After the op what happens...
I've often wondered about this myself, great topic... When you wake up, is there a nurse already present? Or would you have to call for one? X

Re: After the op what happens...
Kelly, I was woken up in the recovery room and then wheeled back to my own room. They asked me questions about my kids etc, think they were trying to see how out of it I was but I was fine and can remember the whole conversation.
Once back in my room I was chatting to hubby, wide awake not at all drowsy. I tried to pick up a glass if water and spilt it. Realised I had pins and needles in left hand. Later asked surgeon and he explained it was because my arms were out straight up high during op.
Other than that though I are fine, got up loads ( and got told off by nurse) and was in v little pain. I had to stay in over night which was good as that first night was the only time I needed stronger meds than paracetamol
Everyone is different, just make sure you don't over do it and buzz the nurse if you need anything. X

Re: After the op what happens...
I woke up in recovery with a male nurse who had came to see me before the op. He was lovely. I think he was 'observing' me and waiting until I was 'with it' enough to go back to my room. I remember babbling on about Britain's got talent when you're wheeled back in your room, you stay in the bed the whole time pretty much. As the other girls have said, you'll have a buzzer for a nurse as you'll need help getting to the toilet. They brought me jam on toast, water, cup of tea, babybel etc to snack on, my throat was so dry and sore from the tube they put down it though. I tried to get to sleep when my dad left but nurses keep coming in waking you up to check you, and then they woke me up for breakfast at 5:30 ahh x

Re: After the op what happens...
I remember waking up in the recovery room and then next thing I know I'm being wheeled off to my room I were so sleepy I couldn't keep my eyes open I couldn't eat much of my tea because I couldn't stay awake they let me go to the toilet on my own with my boyfriend after about 3 hours but I couldn't wee which is embarressing and had to stay for longer because it just wouldn't come out for some reason I slept the whole way home even when my boyfriend went to macdz and then got in bed at half 8 and woke up the next day at 10 and off I went back to normal. Everybody is different though so just keep that in mind these things might not happen to you xx

Re: After the op what happens...
I think it depends on u has a person
Within 3 hours from recovery I was up going to the toilet on my own.
The next morning I went to the toilet and got myself dressed by myself.
No problem.
Everyones recovery is different.

Re: After the op what happens...
I was literally asleep for 24 hours after my op (love my sleep!) I didn't handle it very well though and was very sick, even throwing up after the strongest anti sickness, and could barely move. But 3 weeks on id do it all over again soo worth it! I also found the drains awful coming out but I think my pain threshold is very low! I wouldn't get off the gas and air for that bit lol x

Re: After the op what happens...
It really does vary the different doesn't it, that's two extremes, had either you Kenzie and Gemma gone under GA before? The sickness sounds awful Gemma, but its good to hear you feel it was worth it and that you would do it all again! Haha, maybe I'll say I'm in loads of pain just so I can try the gas and air! :-) xx

Re: After the op what happens...
I had GA once before and was just drowsy.
I did forget to mention I was sick when drinking water...couldn't keep it down.
Had a sandwich and was fine. No problems.
Don't worry about how bad it will be because ive been so lucky sp far
I ate well , slept alot etc before the op. So I do wonder if that's helped.
