Shaaanxo - YouTube blogger, Thailand BA
Happy Monday guys!
So my cousin LOVES watching all the YouTube blogs about make up, she's always showing me videos, especially from this girl called Shaaanxo from New Zealand. I like her make up and fashion blogs and watch them from time to time myself.
She recently underwent a BA in thailand and she has made a video diary about the whole thing.
I was just wondering if any of you ladies have seen it and what your general idea of 'Surgery Holidays' are?
It was insightful to watch but I think I'm strictly a UK surgery girl. That way my home ad my own bed aren't too far away!!!
Nire xx

I haven't watched the blog, but do not think surgery abroad is a good idea at all
Cosmetic surgery, no matter how many times someone may want to tell themselves it won't happen to them, is NOT risk free! No matter how good your surgeon may be, there is ALWAYS a risk!
UK surgeons have a duty of care to their patients, anywhere else abroad and their laws may be different, their duty to you as their patient may be different, do they have surgeons in the UK you can turn to if needed? And although as unbelievable as it may sound some women even trust the sales people enough not to even meet a surgeon until the day of their operation!
Like anyone who has a good experience with surgery they will shout how great their surgeon, their clinic their everything is from the roof toop.... Truth is... They're lucky! Complications can and do happen! And that's even for those who go to the best surgeons in the world and this is something everyone considering surgery abroad should think about first 'before' booking anyone.
Firstly I'll talk about a lady's experience here, her name is ShootingStar, you can find her diary in the diaries section and if you're looking for a blog of what can happen if you DO suffer a complication then I suggest you read that one.
ShootingStar was targeted on another forum by someone posing as a patient of a surgeon abroad. She told her all the right things to make her so impressed with this surgeon that she booked, thinking she'd had a referral from what she come to think of a 'friend'... That friend turned out to be an agent for the surgeon. This people are paid to go out there on forums such as this and I can assure you girls we DO watch for those people here and work VERY hard to keep this forum a safe place for all.... To cut a long story short, after trying to get help for an infection, that got so bad she found when showering the implant hanging from her breast, the surgeon asked her to return to the country where he just stitched her back up 'without anaesthetic'! She returned home things as I'm sure none of us surgeon can guess.... Got a lot worse! She ended up butchered and having to live without a breast on one side for six months. She then had to pay even more than she'd ever planned to pay initially in the UK to find a 'reconstruction' surgeon to fix the breast that been so badly neglected, so on top of travelling expenses, hotel expenses that weren't covered in aftercare she had to pay again for her surgery but more because of the extent of the damage.

Cosmetic surgery is a specialst area and as such needs specialist attention to help you get a good result. And if things go bad and you're left at the mercy of the NHS here in the UK, if you have excessive bleeding or blood poisening they have a duty of care to look after you, anything else and they have the right to either charge for their services or turn you away which could result in a botch job that will matter to no-one here, no matter how much you may be affected by the outcome! at worst if the problem does require intervention all they will do is remove the implant and stitch you up! They will NOT replace the implant, they will have no care for how you look, they simply have a duty of care to ensure your Heath and saftey and once that's been established you're out the door! That the cold reality of the possible consequences of having surgery abroad.
I've heard of only one lady on here who had a complication and her surgeon foot all expenses to resolve the problem, but I do believe she was the exception....
The majority don't have UK contact with a surgeon, only by Email to the surgeon in their own country. If they require revision, although revision surgery may be free, all travel costs and hotel costs generally aren't. The risks of flying so soon after surgery elevate the risk of getting a DVT. We're lucky in the UK, it's the law that our surgeons have to reveal their qualifications for us to be able to check on the GMC register... Other countries, you may not ever be able to locate surgeons qualifications. Many women go away thinking their travel insurance may also help to cover any complication they might have... Nope! You have nothing but what you're given from the clinic abroad.
Here in the UK a package includes everything from consultations right through to aftercare and we're protected under 'British' law. If you have your surgery abroad and need to seek legal action, you have to abide by the law of the country you had your surgery in..
I could go on and on and on about reasons not to have surgery abroad, its always best to find the best surgeon you can as close to home as possible - I've just spent four months needing to travel up and down to my clinic to have open wounds from an allergy to the suctures needing to be cleaned and redressed daily and that was alone was a strain being just a two hour round trip a day! I couldn't even begin to imagine having to travel back and forth to not her country, or the possible additional costs that would incur?!! Would I have even had this kind of service abroad? I very much doubt it!

I am totally against surgery abroad. What about aftercare? I was dubious about having my surgery when I did (in London) just because i'd be in Leeds from 3 - 12 weeks post op, I was like 'what if something goes wrong?!?! i'm so far away??!' couldn't imagine being in another country. I read someone once who had decided to go to abroad and they were like 'my surgeon comes to the UK once a month but if it's an emergency and he's not here i'll just go A&E' i was like 'why should the NHS pick up the stick' grrr. x

I'm in agreement with the others, not a good idea. One of the main things I've learnt from this forum is research research research. Additionally, the importance of seeing more than one surgeon. Not so easy when you're abroad and pushed for time. As stated, aftercare and access to it, are highly important when having such an op. I had a quick look at the vlog and although the clinic may look quite pleasant, hygiene standards are not universal. None of the nurses or wearing gloves. Personally, I would not risk it and would discourage anyone who would consider it xx

I know it's not the same but did anybody see the Ladyboys program? There was a plastic surgeon doing surgery in what can only be described as a back street clinic! Was vile x

I saw the youtube video, she's quite brave to go abroad. I personally would never do it, its got a reputation of being dangerous in some places and it may be inaccessible if there are complications.x
