going for ba alone
I am booked in for my ba on friday the 17th of June woo hoo. Im a little bit apprehensive because the hospital is 2hrs away and my hubby is working on the Friday and Saturday so cant take me up or be with me during surgery. Doing it this way means he will be there for me during recovery which is when I think I will need him most. Has any1 else done the hosp and op alone??? I am starting to think I will freak when the day comes as ive never had ga xx

Re: going for ba alone
hi hun,
make sure you join our june buddies thread!!
i was thinking of doing it alone at first and just have someone there for recovery, but my clinic won't let me go home alone so am taking my sister for the whole thing now as she doesn't live in the uk and is flyin over to help me during early recovery.
tbh i wouldnt mind at all doing it alone, as at the end of the day it is all about me. :)
but i'm sure you'll be in good hands with the nurses and doctors etc x

Re: going for ba alone
Ooops was meant to say May the 17th for surgery not June lol
I'm just frightened I get the wobbles and dont go through with it. I read on this site a few weeks ago about some1 who backed out at the hosp. I just would be sooooo mad at myself if that happened to me x

Re: going for ba alone
Don't worry hun. I'm sure you'll be fine yes, we did have a lady who backed out but she really is the exception babe and the first woman to actually back out of theatre in the whole time I've been here lovely.
Too be honest hun, I wish my hubby had stayed at home. I was irritable, full of nerves, he kept stroking my hair and asking me if I was OK! All nice things don't get me wrong but on the day I just didnt need it. I also had to deal with 'his' nerves too which drove me mad! Lol.
I slept the whole time after surgery too so there was no point really in him sitting there reading the paper. He was bored stiff!
You're right. Its most important to have someone there for you through recovery hun and if you haven't arranged to picked up from the hospital I'd check that you'll be OK to be discharged alone babe, because from all I know due to you still being under the influence of the GA you won't be able to leave unattended hun. Xx

Re: going for ba alone
I have went to all my appointments by myself and I am going to op by myself. I will have someone collect me (not sure who yet). My fiancé has the week off work to help me during recovery but we also have a 3 year old so he has to stay at home with her during my op. I'm sure we will be fine chick :-) xx

Re: going for ba alone
I did it alone OH did drop me at the hospital but had to leave me there to sort out girls out for school etc- it was totally fine, my OH was starting to annoy me a bit with his nerves and not helping mine at all on the Sunday night before the op so I think it worked out well for me! I had a 5 hour wait in the hospital alone which was also fine by the time I seem the various people needed watched some trashy day time tv and flicked through mags it was done. I think it will totally depend on if you need an reassurance before etc otherwise you will be fine xxxxxx

Re: going for ba alone
I know I'm worried about my little girl wanting lifted, she's at the age that she always wants lifted. Hopefully though this will be a learning point for her that she needs to stop getting lifted :D
Yes he has been well warned that he will be running around after me whilst I recover :-) xxx

I agree with Cookie. .I just wanted to be alone. Watch crap tv while I waited. The whole thing was fairly relaxing tbh.

Re: going for ba alone
It's better on your own!! My recently ex husband was supposed to be dropping me off but insisted on coming in with me. I had 4 hrs before my theatre slot & he was really irritating me, putting sport on the tv etc so I asked home to leave! Personally I really enjoyed the whole experience & was pleased I did it on my own. You 'll be fine!

Re: going for ba alone
I pretty much did it on my own today. My hubby dropped me off then went home and didn't see him again til i was discharged. Luckily i was on a ward with 3 other women so it was nice talking to them instead because we were all going through the same thing and comparing. Such a lovely experience, don't think i would have enjoyed it as much if i was in a room on my own even with my hubby but each to their own =] x
Re: going for ba alone

My husband cant take time off work as hes a teacher, my sisters booked a day off work to look after my daughter whilst im away so im on my own! Re: going for ba alone
I'll be doing it on my own too, going there on my own, in hospital on my own and would have been going home on my own but the nurse said I couldn't go home unless someone came to collect me so I'm having to find someone to come get me which is a bit annoying, I would prefer to sort myself out and not ask anyone.
