Botox boobs!
So I had my pre-op consultation with my surgeon today.
One of my concerns I voiced to him was the worry of muscle distortion and also when the muscle traps the implant so they look really high up (he mentioned this, I've no idea what you call it!) I'm quite athletic and used to swim and dance from a young age so I'm worried my chest muscles are quite strong. I'm having unders and my PS reiterated today that overs aren't really going to be possible for me because of my lack of tissue (I didn't want them anyway). So he explained was that he could try and alleviate the problem. He said that he might try injecting botox into my muscle during the op so it freezes the muscle (I guess so muscle can't trap the implant), obviously botox wears off after a while, I'm guessing the muscle would relax after a few months.
Anyone heard of this before? Sounds a little crazy? Although I might ask if he can give me a botox shot in the forehead while his there, ahaha.

Re: Botox boobs!
Can't say I'm convinced by this methods hun, but then...I'm not a surgeon.
Your muscles are only going to stretch so far and from those we have had here who have had muscle distortion, going over the muscle is the only thing that resolved the problem. So does your surgeon plan to inject Botox for the entire time you 'may' suffer distortion if it does happen? And had he used this method before?
I'd personally be seeking another opinion from another surgeon before going ahead Suzi. This isn't something I've ever heard of before and if this procedure were a 'cure' for muscle distortion every surgeon in the country would be using it and I've never heard of anybody having this done before.
We've had many women with athletic frames going over the muscle and they've been fine... I'd definitely seek a second opinion if i were you Suzi. Xx

Sounds a little far-fetched.. never heard of it before. I would get a second opinion also x

Ah I don't think I made myself that clear. I don't think he was saying that the botox would stop muscle distortion - he told me he'd make sure to release the muscle fully and make it a nice snug pocket it try and stop that. But I think he was saying the botox would stop the muscle trapping the implant up high in the beginning so that the implant would have time to settle in its pocket and then by the time it wore off it would hopefully be healed. I think he was saying that muscle distortion and the muscle trapping the implant up high were two different things??

Re: Botox boobs!
Sweetheart, all this is doing is paralysing the muscle. So what that article 'suggests' is that in paralysing the muscle it makes it easier for the implant to settle as it won't have the tightness of the muscle constricting every time your move your arms. It makes no suggestion of solving complications.
They are. If the implant is held up high by the muscle then the muscle may need to be released to allow the implant to drop.
With muscle distortion, especially if you're very athletic or muscular the muscles are so tight they constrict the implant causing the distortion. Going over the muscle will resolve this.
I really can't see how Botox is going to help if the muscle is too tight. One way or another, if the muscles are too tight, even after the Botox wore off, it won't drop into the pocket, nor would it stop the muscle from constricting after wearing off (about 3 months) so I'm really unsure how this is going to help 'you'
It would help those who don't have tight muscles as the muscles are eventually going to stretch to accommodate the implant dropping anyway, but with Botox you're just not going to feel it are you because of the paralysis. And even then, I think I'd rather feel the discomfort. At least then I'd know when I was overdoing it and wouldn't push myself too far for fear of putting my recovery back.
Not convinced at all sweetness....

Re: Botox boobs!
I guess you are right Cookie. Obviously he wasn't suggesting that this was the only way to alleviate the risk of the muscle trapping the implant, and he did explain what he was going to do to free up the muscle in theatre. I'll speak to him about the Botox.

Re: Botox boobs!
Suzy, maybe what he is suggesting is that by the botox relaxing the muscle, it will allow easier insertion of the implant during the actual surgery of your muscles are tight?
As you probably know Mark Gittos is extremely well renowned in Brest/reconstructive surgery and I'm sure you're in really capable hands, my mother in law recently showed me her breasts, she has had Breast cancer in both breasts and Mr Gittos done one of her reconstructions, I was do surprised at how good it looked, it honestly did not look or feel as if they'd been any surgery done at all!
