Hi girls
Just wondering as I have read a lot lately that your implants will only last 10 years, is this because of the guarantee? Are they more likely to rupture after 10 years? Or is it that nature will take it's corse and they will start to sag therefore an uplift may be required? Confused x

It's not really because of the guarantee. It's mostly because the implant is a foreign object inserted into your body. We aren't really designed to have extras added. After so many years your body may develope cc, the gel may get firm, the shells may degrade, silent ruptures can occur. Also the aesthetic appearance over 10 years may change skin sagging etc

Thanks for your reply misf1, What is cc? Is it Capsular contracture—hardening of the breast area around the implant?
So it's not a given that you have to change them after 10 years? I was just advised to get them scanned every 3 years or so to check for ruptures. Should I truly be saving for a ba every 10ish years?

Yes, you should definitely be saving for another BA Vickey. According to reports from the FDA implants are generally only going to last up to ten years... 'If you're lucky' they may last longer

Take a look at this thread [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

CC is capsular contracture. After having a BA a capsule forms around the implant, if this capsule starts to contract and tighten around the implant its called capsular contracture lovely. Xx

The link doesn't work hun. I'm glad you're feeling better now after understanding exactly what's involved.

It feels so much better feeling fully informed and prepared for every eventuality doesn't it Vickey. I think the worst thing women can do is to go into this blind and then be stuck with no savings and nothing to help when they they need it.

Sunday is almost here woopdeedoooo woohoo

I can't believe we are not fully informed about future procedures that we will inevitably need.
I do feel better knowing what to expect. How hard must it be for ladies that have been informed they need another ba with no way of paying for it.
Truly awful for them
Thanks for everyones replys x

I must admit my surgeon was very clear to me that as im only 27 I may need 2 maybe 3 more if I want them every 10 year and then depending on what I want done after that another one, he never went into it lightly with me he was very firm lol xx

I was only told of possible risks but it was never made clear that this will be an eventuality. I'm only 29 so I will definitely be needing them done again, hopeful I will get a fair few years out of them first.

I'm of the belief, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Research has shown 10 years is the average but it could be a lot sooner. I've got a boobie savings fund just in case. My aftercare has run out now so if anything happens, I'm going to have to pay for it.

I have my "health care credit card" thingie that I'll have paid off by the end of the year (fingers crossed) and it's got enough room on there to get another BA if necessary, so I'll just keep it waiting in the wings for when it's needed. I'm hoping to make it until I'm done with children and breastfeeding and then get all tightened up and maybe go a couple sizes bigger Implant only for 10 years 557141
