Any nurses/midwives?
Hi girls, as it says, are there any nurses or midwives out there? Just asking about the amount of time I'll need off. My op is 1st feb which is the fri, I've then got 2/52 Annual
Leave as of the Monday and then hopefully not back till the Friday of the 3rd week. So 2-3 weeks off.
I'm a Sr in A&E and my role is mostly a co-ordinator role, ie on my feet and running about all day but there's enough of us to avoid any strenuous activity ie lifting or CPR etc!
So... Should I be ok? As don't really want to have to tell matron what I've been doing on my annual leave!

Re: Any nurses/midwives?
I'm a dep sr in surgical HDU. I've only got 8 days annual leave left this year so I've had to tell my manager why I need to squeeze 14 days off together, she was pretty understanding but I'm not sure anyone else will be when I come back and can't move any patients!
Please let me know how you girlies get on. My surgeon seemed to think 14 days off would be fine.

Re: Any nurses/midwives?
Hi there, just seen this post! I am a midwife but I was lucky as I only qualified this year. I finished uni the first week in sept had the op on 19th sept and I only started my job this week so I had nearly 10 weeks off. (It wasnt an accident that I planned my surgery around this!) I felt that the for the first 4 weeks I wouldnt have been able to perform all my duties. I couldnt have pushed anyone in a wheelchair or moved any patients even if I followed all the correct manual handling techniques I was just simply too tender around my chest and it took about 4-5 weeks before I could lift my arms above my head! I had an uplift too though so my recovery was more complicated. I would like a tummy tuck in the future though and I know the recovery for that is even longer and I'd need 6 weeks off so I dont know how I'll get around that!!?? Its so awkward cos when u do a manual job you need the extra time off but you dont want to tell your boss what you have had done and you cant take any sick time as its cosmetic!!! I know a few RM's that have had cosmetic surgery while they have been on long term sickness for work related stress!!

Re: Any nurses/midwives?
I'm a student nurse and i've planned mine during the holidays so i'll get 2 weeks off on holiday and 6 weeks in uni before i'm back out doing the manual stuff on placement. The biggest worry for me is my work in a secure unit i'd dread someone smacking me in the boob or bashing them while restraining someone x
