Dentist
Quick question ladies. I tried to do a search on here regarding going to the dentist post BA, but didn't find anything. I've read quite a few other stuff online about having to take antibiotics prior to any dental procedures (even cleaning) to prevent capsular contracture. I asked my ps about it and he said no, antibiotics are not necessary?!
Has anyone ever been to the dentist post BA? thanks.

Re: Dentist
I'm 5 years post-op now and have never had to have any anti-b's before dental treatment. I have read the same as yourself but my surgeon also said the same as yours sweetness - just not necessary. Xx

Re: Dentist
I've seen those posts as well, I really don't see how CC could possibly be related to having work done by a dentist. Also, there's no bl**dy way I'd tell my dentist I'd had a B.A.
but that's just me!!

Totally off subject but I have a brace too :) and I get my BA in 2 days! Just thought I'd put that in there I'm bored out my skull and driving myself insane passing the time....
But back to the post, I haven't heard of this before, I see my dentist all the time and don't get antibiotics? Or have I misread the post? Sorry I'm so confused and tired

Re: Dentist
On doing a bit of reading some surgeons suggest after having a BA you should have antibiotics prior to dental work which includes cleaning, filling etc - anything that could cause bacteria to enter your bloodstream. (Mouth is full of bacteria and the gums tend to bleed during these procedures allowing bacteria into the blood) This is because you have a foreign body inside you and people with false hips etc have always needed this kind of treatment cos the bacteria can collect around the capsules of an implant or false hip etc. The theory is that it can cause cc or infection of the capsule but many surgeons have disputed this and said its not neccessary to have antibiotics. I rang my surgeon about it and she said not to worry about it as its far worse to keep having antibiotics for no reason as you will end up resistant to their effects and then when u actually need them they wont work!! I need a dental implant in a few months time which is a nasty procedure involving a piece of metal being screwed into the bone but you get antiobiotics for this procedure anyway. I wont be having antibiotics for my regular dental treatment though. I also asked about tatts as she said as long as you use a clean studio who use single use needles and adopt a sterile environment it will be fine.
