Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
So I have my pre-op tomorrow, they only phoned me yesterday to book it in as my BA was booked with just under 2 weeks notice
Just wondered what happens at it? The girl on the phone didn't tell me, just said be here for 12.15!

Re: Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
They'll go through your medical history with you, depending on that some further tests such as blood tests, MRSA swabs, ECG, things like that may be done, but if all seems fine, you won't need to have anything done, dont worry though if bloods are done anyway, some clinics just take them as procedure.
You'll be asked your height, your weight and you'll have your pre-op pictures taken also at this appointment, then you'll be given some leaflets of what to expect from surgery, details of what you might need and healing instructions. xx

Re: Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
I've already had my height, weight and pre-op photos done as well as medical history. Got the leaflets of what to expect and met the surgeon already who told me all this?

Re: Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
Ahh ok, thanks. Was just a bit worried there as I have to travel quite far for the pre-op assessment. Didn't wanna get there and have them say there was a mistake and it's been done so just go home! lol xx

Re: Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
Take a list of of any questions you'd like answering with you Peachy, they don't discuss 'everything' so if they miss anything out you can ask them whilst you're there. xx
Re: Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
Yeah good idea, think I will write it all down. I have it all in my head but I think I will get a mind blank at the time or I will be walking out and wish I had asked something that I forgot to.xx

Re: Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
Well the pre-op happened today after a mix up. The receptionist told me to come today but it was in the system for yesterday. Had a panic as thought they would have to book me in again and my op is soon so I thought they would cancel it! Anyway, had to wait about for a space and then was seen. Wasn't what I thought it would be... it was basically just going over my health to make sure I was fit for a GA height, weight, bloods and discussed any concerns about getting the GA. She then said if I had any questions regarding the surgery I was to call the surgeons secretary and gave me their number. Also seen in my notes that I am having bilateral breast symmetry I asked the nurse what that meant and she just said it was another terminology for a BA. Then she said my surgeons name and said it wasn't a name she recognised. Well neither did I as that wasn't the surgeon I had seen a few months ago. But the surgeon did say it may not be her carrying it out, it could be someone in her team. So I am hoping I will see the surgeon before I goto theatre yeah??? Cos now I am panicking and worrying that she hasn't wrote everything we discussed all down in my notes and i may come out with something we didn't agree on! Suppose this is how things can go on the NHS but surely I still have the right to see my new surgeon and discuss my concerns? Sorry if I am rambling but I am getting so nervous!!!

Oh I'm so sorry that they got things so mixed up today. To be honest Hun I think you have every right to see the surgeon that you are having surgery with, what was the point of you seeing the surgeon if it wasn't herself doing the surgery? Really not very fair to mess you around like that. I certainly wouldn't leave it until the day of surgery though hunni xx

Re: Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
I would think i would see the surgeon on the day as he would mark me up etc but I am not sure how it works on the NHS and she did inform me that it may not be her doing it. I think I will phone the secretary on Monday, doubt they will manage to squeeze me in before my BA though as it's next Thurs!xx

You'll DEFINITELY see the surgeon who is operating on you on the day Peachy, but like you say sweetheart, with your surgery being on the NHS, that might not necessarily be the surgeon you spoke with initially.
But don't worrry lovely, you'll have plenty of time on the day of your surgery to sit with your surgeon and to discuss any fears or concerns you may have along with all that you discussed with the previous surgeon (if it's not the same one) and the nurses too will also be at hand to go through anything you need to know also.
You're going to be just fine Peachy. As your surgery date is getting closer, it's natural to get the pre-op jitters and to start having all kinds of things run around in your head. You're having an experienced NHS surgeon operate on you though and all is going to be great and you're going to love your new boobs... Just like we all do xx
Re: Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
Thanks cookie - can you tell I am having the jitters?!
I just wish it would hurry up and come as I am terrible when it comes to nerves! I keep thinking it's going to be cancelled when I get all the way up there I also keep watching videos on YouTube about the surgery and watching it taking place my other half keeps telling me to stop it as he thinks it is making me worse, he may be right but i am not going to admit that

Re: Pre-Op tomorrow - what happens?
LOL. You do whatever you feel is best to get you through this.
I found reading through the post-op stories the girls write a fantastic help for nerves. Reading all of their happiness when they wake up from surgery is enough to replace those jitters with excitement... well they were for me. Those stories are amazing!
And you know we're here, even if you just want to talk, scream haha or rant your through till you get to you surgery date. Most of us know exactly what you're going through and will be able to help talk you through it xx
