Suitable for BA?
I read the breast augmentation information section last night. Shocking, but not altogether surprising. I was prepared to replace my implants on a 5-10 year basis whether they needed it or not anyway. I knew that before I even wanted one, because I am aware of planned obsolescence (things are built to break and wear out in a certain timescale so that you have to buy another one) and that it operates in most industries. Why should cosmetic surgery be any different, lol. And after watching the PIP story coming out in the news......its scary.
But I have surprised myself by STILL wanting a boob job, even after all that.
I think that I might have problems with it, I might turn out not to be a suitable candidate because I have rheumatoid arthritis. Does that matter? I went to a consultation with HMG (and stupidly fell into their £500 deposit scam) and the nurse said it didn't matter. And it seemed logical that it doesn't, as rheumatoid arthritis patients eventually have joint replacements and can have silicone heart valves fitted etc. But I'm not going to believe what a HMG nurse said without checking it out. I've since decided I don't want to go with HMG (pushy and expensive, poor aftercare) and I suppose I'll have a fight to get the deposit back. I rang and enquired a few days ago, what would happen if I cancelled and was told I would get £300 back. I can deal with that. I won't make the same mistake again lol.
I also have a problem with my left breast which worries me a lot but it would take ages to explain so I'll leave that for another thread. Sorry if this is too long
Has anyone here got rheumatoid arthritis and had a boob job? Is it safe?

Re: Suitable for BA?
Just to add hezzz, we do have a BAAPs registered surgeon here called Mr Alvi, so if the problems you have with your left breast are complicated and a concern for you, please don't hesitate to ask Mr Alvi his 'expert' opinion. You'll find him in the 'Ask a surgeon' section of the forum lovely. xx
Re: Suitable for BA?
Wow. That will be so helpful, I will most definitely ask him later today xxx

Re: Suitable for BA?
Sorry to here about your experience with HMG, that is pants but you're right in making the decision to possibly lose a bit of money.. if they won't support you with adequate aftercare you would lose much more in the long run. It's always best to find a clinic AND surgeon you feel you can trust... Good luck with your boobie journey!! xx

Re: Suitable for BA?
I totally rushed into the appointment with Harley anyway. I was just feeling desperately sad about my boobs at the time and I booked myself a consultation in an attempt to get things moving and cheer myself up. I knew I ought to research the clinics first so I chose the one that seemed the safest bet as it was the most well known and it turned out to be one of the worst, lol. Its quite out of character for me to do something like that....I need to quit smoking first anyway! I don't know what I was thinking now I look back...I suppose its just 'cause I was just feeling so crap. And I don't like how the HMG nurse (sales person ) took advantage of me feeling that way.

Re: Suitable for BA?
I definitely don't think you're the first hezzz, I think so many women feel so rushed to get their boobs when they make their decision and to get that added pressure from the clinic too... they obviously knew what they were doing. I was no better, while I did take my time and did my research I do think I could have taken a little longer and gone in with a little more knowledge but I just couldn't wait any more.
This is a great place to start though, you will find a lot of valuable knowledge here... a lot of which you wouldn't get from your PCC or surgeon. The women are honest and we aren't here to sell you anything, we just want to ensure anybody who comes for help or advice receives the best possible. x

Re: Suitable for BA?
I rushed into my first BA hezzz. Once the decision was made that I was going to get new boobs, that was it! I was out, sat in a clinic having a consultation that I never understood a word of, then sat wit a co-ordinator seducing me into signing to set a date, which I did and I deeply, deeply regret that, soooooo much so, I can't tell you.
I've done so much research since then and realise how naive I was how easily I was swayed into booking without even knowing anything about the surgery I was having.... If I have my time over again, things would have been so different that's for sure.
You're being very sensible about this hezz. Stopping smoking before having your BA is such a good thing to do as it does hinder your recovery and the risks of complications post-op are so much higher for smokers. Take your time lovely, we're here to help as much as we're able. You know we also have a BAAPs registered surgeon at hand also to help with any questions you might also have concerns about too sweetie. xx

Re: Suitable for BA?
Thanks Alvi and Cookie, I do feel loads more confident that I'll be ok if I take steps to do it the right way, 'cause this forum is brilliant. Up until now, I've felt mostly worried about it but I'm getting excited now I'll take my time and I'll post my story along the way, and pics eventually. Thanks so much for your support xxx

You're welcome hun. We're not going anywhere, you know where we are and we'll be here for you every step of the way should you need us hezzz and we'll very much look forward to reading your updates
Re: Suitable for BA?
How long ago did you pay the deposit and sign the agreement? These things should have a cooling off period, usually seven or fourteen days.
If it's past that then it's still worth trying for a full refund by submitting a complaint about their pressure selling tactics. If you don't ask, you don't get.
Other than that... welcome to the forum!

Re: Suitable for BA?
The T&C's say cancellation of consultaions must be done in writing and must be received at least 6 working days prior to the scheduled date of the consultation. On the phone the other day, they said if I cancelled after seeing the surgeon, I would be charged £100 for admin and £100 for the consultation. I was going to go and see the surgeon and see what he said about my asymmetry, but I think I'll just cancel it. I'd better get writing them a cancellation letter, the consultation was scheduled for the 28th of June so I'll have time I think. I'll send it first class recorded delivery lol.

Re: Suitable for BA?
When did you pay your deposit? Regardless of what their T&Cs say you are legally entitled to a Cooling Off Period. If I'm reading you right the £500 was a deposit for the surgery, not the consultation?
I seriously suggest you check this - your T&Cs should say something about cooling off period and if they don't then I would strongly recommend you challenge them.
Also, find out what would happen if you had your second consultation and then cancelled. Would you still get £300 refund or would it be different, and if so why?
I know it can seem like a lot of hassle when all you want is to have it sorted, but it really is worth it as the more people accept these unethical tactics (as in my mind this is what they are) then the more they get away with it and the more they do it.
Feel free to pm me if you want to go over any legal stuff or review your contract.

Re: Suitable for BA?
Paid it on 11 June. The 500 deposit was a deposit for the surgery. They set a date for the surgery, 22nd of August.
Fom what I can see in the T&C's I will get my full £500 back if I cancel the consultation in writing 6 or more working days before it was due to happen.
But if you dont cancel the consultation with the surgeon 6 working days or more before the scheduled date they will take £100 for admin and £100 for the consultation and refund £300.
If you go to the consultation with the surgeon and then cancel within 25 days of the set procedure date, they will also take £100 admin and £100 for consultation, refund £300.

Re: Suitable for BA?
If you're very unhappy with consultation/surgeon/aftercare hezzz, then in my opinion sweetheart, it's worth loosing a couple of hundred quid just for peace of mind. A £200 loss is nothing if it helps you to get the very best for your body is it lovely. xx
Re: Suitable for BA?
Okay, that makes sense. When is your consultation booked for? Imminently I assume?
I would recommend you go to the consultation regardless as even if you decide not to go ahead with them you at least have a qualified opinion to compare against for future consultations with other surgeons. Then, as Cookie says, £200 for peace of mind is a small price to pay... especially when you think of it as a) a percentage of the overall cost and b) cost per wear/use of your new boobs!

Re: Suitable for BA?
Yeah I did want to go because I looked up the surgeon and he seemed really good from what I read. Mr Bernard Sleiter. I might go and see what he says, its another opinion to compare, and he has a website and does it privately lol. £200 is a bit steep for a consultation though.
I dont get how after care works if you go privately with a surgeon though.
I was going to get three or four consultations before I chose anyway.
