sun and boobies
I came across a post by altw last night where she put sun cream on her scars wen she was sun bathing even though they were covered by the sports bra because they can get burnt through the bra and I am going on holiday 9 weeks after my op, it isn't one particular question just anything you think I should do or need to know b4 I go lying in the sun with them and whether or not I should use anything on them at 9 weeks post op thanks in advance xx

Re: sun and boobies
Your scars can be affected up to a year post op, so if any sun does get on them it can cause them to become permanently red or pigmented. As long as your surgeon says it's ok to put cream on scars at 9 weeks you should be able to put sun block on them under your bikini, although a bit of padding around your scar area may also help. Your skin on your breasts will have been stretched a lot causing it to be a lot thinner and the skin cells to be a lot newer, I would treat the skin as if it were a new babies skin and keep it very well sun blocked or at least a high factor sun lotion. I didn't realise this when I had mine done and burnt my chest quite badly, and I was only sitting in the garden for a short time.
Re: sun and boobies
You should keep your fresh scars right of the sun sweetheart, I'd go as far as saying keeping them well covered and shielded from the sun.
Until one year post-op, your scars are very much at risk of pigmentation. This causes the scars to turn brown in colour, resulting in a VERY visible scar. So do take care to keep them well shielded babes. xx

Re: sun and boobies
I'd get the all clear from your surgeon to put creams on your scars first - I hadn't and it was very naughty of me and ran the risk of infection. You are probably fine at 9 weeks to put sun cream on but better to be sure! It is important to keep them well clear of the sun though, I put lady-pads in my sports bra for extra protection but I don't think that would look too good with a bikini around a pool :heehee:
Also be aware that as your skin is still quite stretched you are susceptible to burning easier... You don't want bright red sore boobies all holiday so do take it into account.
Other than that, get showing them off in some bikinis!!!! X

If your surgeon has given you the all clear to go into the pool, then your fine to swim in the sea babe. If you do get any openings though whilst you're away (sometimes we can get something called a 'spitting stitch' this is a stitch under the skin that is working its way out and can look like a little hole in the crease - nothing to worry about though) I'd stay out of the water. With the sea and pool being public, they carry the germs of everyone using them and this could put you at risk of infection, so do watch for that being early post-op. If there are no openings though... Youre good to go!!!!
You're able to put the padding into your bra if you like hun, although I think being so early, you may possibly find they make your boobs ache, but you could try them....

You should be able to have a second consultation Twinkle. Call your clinic and and dont 'ask' for a second consultation, tell them you want one before your surgery as there are some questions you'd like to get cleared up with your surgeon before your op. You may try to get talked out of it, but stand your ground and tell them its important to you that you have this consultation. xx
Re: sun and boobies
I didn't know about spitting stitch so I will definately look out for that now thank you.
I think your right I should at least try and get a second consultation or I will just regret it, its just if she says he hasn't got any appointments between now and my op because I was only given a choice of 2 dates in the whole month I could see him for my first consultation xx

Re: sun and boobies
Just really push for it hun and don't accept 'no' for an answer. The patient co-ordinators DO have dates they could fit you in but they'll do all they can to reserve those for new 'clients', remember always that patient co-ordinators are 'sales women', they're primarily there to sell a product to pre-ops and placate the paid up pre-ops and post-ops so there's no trips to the clinic other than those required. so, really stick to your guns Twinkle and insist you feel it's necessary for you to go through with your surgery. xx
Re: sun and boobies

Re: sun and boobies
I've just thought, what do you think about putting nursing pads on the scars they would be less noticable than lady pads but would they be abit thin ? Xx

Its what they're being paid for lovely If you really want a second consultation, be stronger than her for yourself.

I'd just buy some padded dressings from the chemist babe, cut them to size, so you're not having huge pads hanging out (those are better for if your incisions hurt wearing wires and offer some comfort 'under' your clothing) and tape them over your scars, the only problem there though is, you'd probably have to redress after swimming, so you'd have to peel them off, then pop them back on again after your swim. xxx
Re: sun and boobies
Thanks for the pep talk cookie I will!
I really don't like the thought of peeling things off them I think I will try everything the week leading upto and see what is noticable and what peeling the dressings off feels like, thanks for your advice ladies and hopefully this post will help someone else in the future like other peoples have helped me
