BOYS are having emergency surgery to get moobs, man boobs. That’s what we thought when reading the Sun’s headline “Moob op aged 10″ – that famous Moob Men like Arg in The Only Way Is Essex, Simon Cowell and Barack Obama had influenced the children at an impressionable age. If seven-year-old Poppy Burge can get vouchers for breast enlargement then why not boys, too? Equality between the sexes is all.

But the Sun’s story is that boys are having their breasts
reduced. In the past three years, 17 have had the procedure. That’s not
even six a year from a population of millions. Still, the paper uses
words like fear”, “crisis” and “epidemic”. The paper says its all about
obesity.

Is it?

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (the cheekily named Baaps) reports that surgeons carried out 323 male breast reduction procedures in 2008. In 2005, only 22 were performed. Increased awareness of moobs surgery – the use of the word itself a sign that it’s a talking point – improved surgery, the
hormone-blocking treatment for prostate cancer and classical cases or gynaecomastia (men’s breasts become larger than normal), which can be triggered by hormones, puberty, ageing, drugs, drinking and Klinefelter’s syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, can all create moobs.

Still, willowy shadow public health minister Diane Abbott (pictured), manages to bypass any meaningful investigation:

"It is not clear why we are seeing so many boys
undergoing male breast reduction surgery. But it must be something to do
with this country’s obesity epidemic."

Or maybe it’s just that men know there is an option to never going topless and spending their youth being called "tits” by the class bully?

In 2009, plastic surgeon Douglas McGeorge told the BAAPS conference in Cardiff:
"We are seeing men of all ages coming in to have their
breasts made smaller. They are losing their inhibitions about the
operation and deciding to undergo an operation which previously was a
women’s operation."

He cited an example of man seeking help:

"It was a grandfather who had never taken off his T-shirt
in his life because he was so embarrassed about the size of his
breasts. He had never been able to strip to the waist on the beach in
front of his own children – but was determined not to be in the same
position with his grandchildren."

And the media has played its part, and not only when it’s mocking Moob men, such as the Daily Mail’s article: “Moobs looks like a lady: Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge Steven Tyler appears to have succumbed to the curse of moobs.”

The Sun wrote:

LEE Jardine, 24, put up with years of torment after
developing man boobs at the age of 13. Able to fill a D cup bra, the dad
of one from Mansfield had reached the end of this tether. But then,
miraculously, a long-lost relative offered to pay to have them
surgically removed, after reading about Lee’s plight in The Sun.

Adding:

"Two hours after the operation they were gone. I was flat
as a pancake. Within the space of one day, I was back at home a
different man."

So. It’s not all about fat. It’s about self-confidence, illness, body
image and the realisation you can do something about a condition that
causes you anxiety. Still, the idiotic Diane Abbott says your medical
condition is a symptom of your own greed. Nice, eh…

Take a look at these man boobs and ass yourself if you’d resort to surgery

I'm going to start another topic about Poppy Burge, so we'll leave this one to 'moobs' only lol. xx

I personally can't find anything wrong with a man who wants to improve his appearance Man boobs - Turning the afflicted into pariahs. 267328 If doing that by having surgery is what it takes to regain confidence - So what??!! xxx

Interesting topic cookie, if it's all about obesity then I suppose all overweight people have masses of breast tissue eh? Bloody ignorant woman that public health minister.
