Boobie massage.
Ladies hi. :flowers:
I've read in quite a number of places about massaging implants after the op, I think personally this makes a lot of sense and lets face it once you've got them you really want to feel them :heehee:
What I'd like to know please if your surgeon recommended it and how did you get on, did/do you feel it helped settle the big darlings(make them soft too) and help prevent capsular contracture especially if you had overs?
Is it a good idea to massage even if your surgeon doesn't agree or didn't suggest it? I have to say I will likely be massaging but with my surgeon's blessing.
Thank you
Love Jesh xxx

Re: Boobie massage.
I would go with what surgeon recommends only, and not go against his/her advice. Generally, we use textured implants in the UK (unlike the US which tend to use smooth implants). Textured implants are meant to have lower rates of cc, this is especially the case with overs (unders generally have an overall lower rate anyhow). They adhere to the tissue around differently than smooth implants, which is why it may be advised not to massage them as it defears the point of having textured implants. Some surgeons may suggest you massage the scars, but not necessarily the whole breasts, so unless your surgeon recommends you do this, do not.

Re: Boobie massage.
Thanks Roxanne, I wouldn't go against my surgeon's wishes if he said no. He's the professional not me and after all when this amount of money is paid why go against? You look great by the way :) Nice bra too.

Re: Boobie massage.
Thanks Jesh! They're cheap and quite a few of us on here have them. Got them at Sports Direct £7.99. They're low cut as far as sports bras go, which is good, because I was out on Saturday with a low cut top and wore my black one. It doesn't support as much as my Shock Absorbers which is my daytime essential atm, but much better when wearing certain clothes xxx

Re: Boobie massage.
I will check them out, they look really nice and comfy, ideal for day to day but I will have to invest in shock absorbers, in your opinion which grade should I go for? Thanks xxx

Re: Boobie massage.
I have two different grade 4 ones. Honestly, boobs really do need as much support as possible in the early days. I find the Londsdale one in my avi comfy, but it really doesn't support as much as I'd like when I'm out and about, and doesn't sit as low as others I have so can be a pain for inscions. Having said that, I love how they're low cut, the others are way too high to wear with certain clothes. You just have to find what you're most comfortable in. I had an uplift, so I think I may be extra careful, and PS told me to wear a sports bra for theree months, this isn't the norm I think unless you've had an uplift though.

Re: Boobie massage.
Roxanne is right.... Unless you request a smooth implant in the UK generally all surgeons here will use textured which will adhere to the breast pocket, to do that the implant needs 'stabilty'! So moving the implant around will not help as you'll prevent the implant from settling.
Some women are advised to massage though, I was one of them, my implant sat high on my chest at 10 weeks post-op and was refusing to drop, so massage for me encouraged the implant to fall into position. Another reason you might be advised to massage with textured implant is if there are signs of early capsular contracture, massage would be used to break the hardening tissue down to allow the implant to settle in the relaxed tissue so it can adhere to the pocket.
So unless advised to massage, with textured implants, it's best to leave well alone and keep them as stable as possible. xx

Re: Boobie massage.
Thanks cookie, I didn't realise that the textured shouldn't really be massaged. I'm still undecided about the smooth and textured, I've read up on this but can't really get the information I need. I will have to wait and see what my surgeon says. Once again this site is the best and I'm so happy I found it.

Re: Boobie massage.
Hi, I had my 8 week post op appointment with the surgeon a couple of days ago. He told me to massage my boobs as this would help with the general healing process, and particularly with the nerve endings, as I'm still getting some discomfort in one boob, which he said was phantom pain due to the nerves being cut. He also said to use bio oil and to massage the scars. I'll be following his advice, but it is interesting how much the advice can seem differ from surgeon to surgeon isn't it.

Re: Boobie massage.
Massage for textured implants generally is only recommended if it's deemed 'necessary' hun, your surgeon may have felt massage was right for 'your recovery'...
There's a lot of information on the net to support massage for smooth implants only, here is just one article to support what has been said -

The topic of massage following breast augmentation has been controversial among plastic surgeons. The purpose behind massage is to help prevent the complication of excessive scar tissue formation that might squeeze the breast implant, create visible mal-positioning and lead to discomfort. These symptoms contribute to a complication called capsular contracture. Scar formation in the breast pocket is the body's natural response to a foreign substance in the body. Excessive scar formation contributing to capsular contracture may be caused by one or more reasons such as the surgeon's technique, infection, cigarette smoking and shaving under the arm pits in the first three weeks following surgery. Women who have breast augmentation should ask their plastic surgeon about the need for massage. Every woman's treatment plan is unique and the recommendation for massage is equally individual for every patient.
Textured Breast Implants vs. Smooth: The general consensus is that textured breast implants should not be massaged because this may lead to interruption of the implant adherence process. The goal of textured breast implants is that the implants should adhere to underlying breast tissue. Though, some plastic surgeons might advise massage for certain patients with textured breast implants. In this case, the patient should ask the plastic surgeon why they are recommending massage. Smooth breast implants are often the type of breast implant that is recommended for massage.
Sub-muscular vs. Sub-glandular Breast Implant Placement: Massage may not be appropriate for women that have had breast implants placed under the pectoral muscles (sub-muscular). Massage may be appropriate for women that have breast implants placed above the muscle (sub-glandular). Women may inquire with their plastic surgeon about the need for massage based on sub-glandular or sub-muscular placement.
The Right Time to Begin Massage: Massage may be required to perform in the first 72 hours following breast augmentation. Alternatively, other plastic surgeons contend that massage may be postponed until six weeks following surgery at a time when the breasts are not sensitive. The time frame for massage is also a topic of discussion. Some plastic surgeons recommend performing massage for three or more critical days following surgery. Others may recommend massage for six weeks or more following the recovery period from surgery.
Massage Techniques: Breast massage may be performed through two primary techniques, including: Pocket Quadrant Exercises (PCE) and Compression Exercise. Pocket quadrant exercise involves a massage for the breast pocket that holds the breast implant in place. Compression exercise focuses on compression techniques. Plastic surgeons will teach breast augmentation patients the appropriate technique at the right time following breast augmentation.

Great information thank you. I never massaged either as my PS didn't tell me to. Mine are softening nicely without any help.

Hi. I have textured implants. I've been told by my surgeon that 2 weeks after the surgery I need to start to massage them for two weeks to help them to settle nicely and to prevent cc. x x

I don't want to go too off topic but I'm just wondering whether allergen CUI are textured or smooth because it says the naturelle are textured but doesn't say what the the CUI are? Xx

Re: Boobie massage.
Yeah it really is, this forum has been a god I have been on it none stop since I signed up searching for as much info as possible and to be honest is has really made me feel like I didn't make an informed decision don't get me wrong I still would have made the choice to do it but I would of liked to know more before it was all booked and payed for I had my pre op on the 23rd of may and didn't find this forum until a few days ago, I did look into it quite a lot but not real stories if you know what I mean, I have been reading ur diary cookie only on page 3 or 4 I think its so big but it has made me have my doubts about choosing transform but I just have to think that all the companies are probably the same with that kind of stuff so I wouldn't be better off anywhere else and I understand that they want to make money and if they gave everyone everything they needed for free they wouldn't make much so that's fair enough, but I think this forum is a must for anyone even thinking about it there should be links to this forum on the websites and leaflets or buisiness cards with it on in there ur pc or surgeon should make sure you have been on it and I really hope its still around when my daughters grown up if she gets my boobs anyway which I hope she doesn't and if she decides she wants one obviously.
