Asthma
Hi, if any of you girlies have asthma, would you be able to tell me what your peak flow is please?
I've recently has a chest infection and have been on a weeks course of steroids and antibiotics.
The anaethetist has asked many questions about the steroids etc. He's now come back and wants to know my peak flow. I am at the docs anyway on Monday morning so I'll get my doc to fax him my peak flow. Mine has always been quite low, hope this doesn't cause a problem. Damn chest infection !!! xx

Re: Asthma
I suffer from asthma Hun. I am afraid I am not sure what my peak flow is as I have mild asthma which worsens when I have a chest infection. I had a chest infection 6 weeks prior to my op and was given antibiotics. I had the all clear for my op as long as i had finished them a few weeks before. I also continued to take my inhalers. It didn't pose a problem at all.
Sorry I'm not sure I'm very helpful. I can't take steroids in tablet form as I get wierd side effects from them. Really hope all comes back fine and your op can go ahead as planned hun xxx

Re: Asthma
My asthma isn't bad. I do take medication and have inhalers if I need them. My asthma flares up when I have a cold and sometimes in the summer due to the pollen. Just because I had a week of steroid it's causing these problems now grrr!! If I had of known I would have told the doc just to give me antibiotics. I felt like cancelling the op earlier xx

Re: Asthma
Hi hlt your peak flow is the amount of air you can breath ou in one go! You have to blow a really strong breath in to a little machine (peak flow monitor) your gp should have one! Xx

Oh how bloody stressful hun. I am sure it'll be ok. Have they said why the steroids would pose a problem to your surgery? xx

Re: Asthma
sharonb - yes I know what a peak flow is, I wondered what anyone elses measured who have asthma. I have a monitor here at home.
jojo6 - my pcc didn't know when I asked about what problems it would cause but reading up on it I think it slows the recovery down, I might be wrong. I will speak to my doc on Monday, I'm sure he will know. It has stressed me out today to be honest. With the anaethetist asking all these questions and not saying wait 3 months, there could be a chance the op will happen on the date I booked. I hope so anyway xx

Re: Asthma
I've had similar problems. I had five major attacks last year, and was hospitalised everytime. My most recent attack was in november last year and my most recent course of steroids was at the start of Feb. My surgeon didnt think it would be a problem as long as I hadn't taken steroids four weeks before the op - so basically from now until my operation on April 5th. This was the thing causing me the most concern. I have to take clenil modulite (a steroid inhaler) twice daily and ventolin as and when. They didn't say anything about my steroid inhaler though......so that must be ok.
My peak flow is usually 400 and if it goes 250 or below I have to go straight to hospital. Hope that helps and hopes it doesn't affect you having your op xxxxx

Re: Asthma
hi, I take montelukast tablet every night and my purple inhaler (seretide) morning and night and ventolin as and when. I've only ever had one asthma attack and that was because I took ibuprofen for a migraine. So now I know I can't take them anymore lol. I wasn't hospitalised as I was told to take an antihistermine as it was a reaction to ibuprofen and by the time we got to the hospital I was feeling fine so told my mum to bring me home lol.
My peak flow is usually 350ish.
I know they're being cautious which is good. But I wish they would ask all of the questions in one go instead of asking for one at a time and my doc writing several letters at £15 a pop grrr!!
My op is booked for 29 March so fingers crossed it will still go ahead for that date. It is good to speak with ladies that are similar to me xxxxx

Re: Asthma
I know roxanne lol. The suspense is killing me. It would have been easier if the anaethetist just said yes or no. Not keeping me hanging on. I don't know whether to get excited or not lol. The more I wait the more worries I'm getting. Now I'm thinking omg will I be too big when I do have it done cos some of the girls that have the same size implants as I'm having are measuring a G. Yes a G!!! lol. I've been looking at bras in a G just to see if they're pretty and whether I can buy sets cos I like to wear matching undies. I told Mr Hassan I want to look a DD.
I'll hopefully feel a little better when I speak to my doc on Monday xx

Re: Asthma
I really hope you get you answer Monday, hopefully it will be a yes, but either way you need to know.
Sorry, I can't help you with the size, as you know I've opted for the uplift with small implants instead. The size I'll be will be easy to find in high street shops. You should perhaps start a post asking ladies with larger implants about their bra shopping? I think that if you're a larger band size, a large cup size is easier to find. Those who seem to struggle more are the girls with small band sizes and large cups. xxx

I am not the most patient person around. I think I might go back to see Mr Hassan and go through the sizing again xx

Re: Asthma
Just an update to say I saw my gp on Monday. My gp is faxing THG to say I'm clear of chest infection and to let them know my peak flow, it was 300, the day before it as 350. I think I do usually have a peak flow of 300-400.
I called THG to see if all ok with the anaethetist. I was told she hadn't received the fax from my gp, arghhhh!! If it's not one thing it's another. So I'm still not 100% if my op is going ahead for the 29th. I don't need the stress!! Fingers crossed xx
