Glossary of terms Empty Glossary of terms

Post by NewdayDawning 22nd October 2011, 10:33 pm

The more I read, the less I understand.

Can anyone advise me where I can find a glossary of all the terms and especially the abbreviations used on this site, please? I find I am really struggling to get any useful information from the site because I simply can't understand the English that's in use. And please don't tell me it's because I grew up in Yorkshire! I do accept that it's partly an age problem - I'm not a Facebook/ Twitter/ text 'msg'* user, so I find all the shortcuts very confusing, particularly when they are mixed in with wrong spellings and typing errors, it has to be said. (Sorry if I sound all school ma'am-y).

* I thought 'msg' was monosodium glutamate until someone informed me of its 'modern' use.

For instance, one frequent abbreviation, that I have never seen written out fully, is 'PS'. Clearly it doesn't mean 'post scriptum' on this site, but what is it, please?

'Form stable'? - a typo-error for 'far more stable', perhaps?

500cc hp's? - large implants filled with brown sauce?

Overs, - a cricket term?

Unders - a misspelling for udders?

HELP!

Thank you, Bronzewolf.

I had guessed at 'Personal Surgeon' for PS, so that has cleared that one up. The others I had worked out (or found out) but was using them to illustrate my question.

And even since I posted the question I have found out that 'form stable' is not a typo - it refers to the way that cohesive gel implants (as distinct from other kinds such as saline solution or more liquid gel ones) retain their shape in different positions and are less prone to sagging.

Seriously, though, if anyone knows of a handy glossary of terms and abbreviations, I would still find it very useful. Thanks in anticipation.

there is a glossary post on here i cant remember where it is though. i remember seeing it before. maybe you can search 'glossary' or some such in the search bar (not where you go to find drinks.) // its the box at the top right of the page that says 'search'. (not a police term)

haha sorry for my lack of capitals. (not a greek architecture term). i feel your pain my mother is an english major. //

Where can you find a Doric column when you need one, these days?

Ha, Ha. thank you Charms. That link was very useful. Being an old-fashioned kind of typist, I've copied and pasted it into a Word document :=)

The link also led me, in a roundabout way - it wasn't easy to find using the 'Search' function -to the 'Complications' posting by Nads:

This is terrifically helpful. Some might find it a bit scary but I just found it informative. I'm not blase* about the risks but they don't put me off one little bit. Can't wait for next Monday!

Thanks again, Charms. D x

*sorry - my computer can't seem to do accents when typing in this program
