How soon after my BA will it be ok to go on holiday, sunbathe, swim ect? I'm going away in september the middle-ish part I think as we are yet to book, but I am planning on having my BA in june or very early july if money wise everything works out ok for me. I want to be able to wear nice bikinis and maybe sunbathe topless if I have the guts but I'm abit worried my scars will be red and sore and really noticable still then.

thanks nikki xxx

If you're having your BA June/July you should be fine to go on holiday and swim in September, not sure about the scars though, i was told to cover the scars up for atleast 3 months, she also said it's best, if you can, to keep them covered for a year xxx

Hey hun, if you have your BA in June you will be fine with swimming in September, but no going topless yet I'm afraid! You have to protect the scars from the sun for about a year or they will go permanently dark, any decent surgeon will tell you that.... sunbathing and wearing a bikini is fine as long as your scars are not exposed, and even then I would still wear total protection suncream on them just in case some of the UV rays filter through your bikini... x

When you say keep scars covered, do you mean with steri strips even when you are wearing a bra???? coz i was told to take off the steri strips now, as its better for the air to get to them and they heal quicker.

No, I didn't mean steristrips, I meant just protected from the sun, covered up with clothing or a bikini that doesn't let them show x

Sorry!!! But other girls are right.. You need to protect..cover your scars for a year from the sun, otherwise they will heal to a different colour. So no topless bathing this year I think  Hug xx

I was afraid that might be the case. Oh well as long as I can still swim, sunbathe and wear nice bikinis I guess I will still get an alright tan. The only reason I thought I would ask is cos a nurse at harley medical told me at a consultaion that it would be fine a few months after if I used factor 50 or a suncream for children. never mind Rolling Eyes

The girls have given you good advice about protecting your scars from the sun... they should be kept covered up.

Regarding swimming, provided your scars are completely sealed/healed up, you should be absolutely fine as you're having overs (unders generally have to wait a little longer due to the muscle being over the implant).

I'm going to Cyprus on Sunday ... do you think factor 50 will be OK under a bikini? I have no intention of going topless, but am a bit scared of ruining my scars.

Incidentally ... very odd ... my left scar has faded a lot recently and is now quite pale, but my right is still quite red. Over 10 months PO now!!

Thanks girls.

I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine Maria, sounds like you're doing the right things and your scars are now quite old so it should be more than enough.
Not sure about one scar being red as I am not that far ahead in my recovery, however I think they do heal at different rates, like your boobies. As long as you see constant improvement, it's ok, it doesn't matter how long it takes!
