Re: everday things after surgery and time off work?
I am a full time mum of 5. My lot will be 10, 9, 5, 3 and 4 (by the time I have my op) and although I don't carry or lift my younger ones that much I am worried about things like pushing my youngest in the buggy and lifting them on & off the loo/in & out of bed/cuddles if they fall over etc.
I will have my husband here (we are separated but he is going to stay for 2 weeks to help me) from the day of my op (15th or 16th August providing the money comes together) until 29th August so won't have to do anything for 2 weeks, but am worried about after that!

In all honesty???? If you have little ones it's hard work. I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and my husband was off for a week and then it was just me looking after them again. I could pick my toddler up by day 8, very slowly an gently but I've had alot of pain and my right breast I very very tender. Saw my plastic surgeon earlier and he said Im just not giving my body time to rest and recover so the process is taking longer for me. He told me to take it easy but thats real hard as I have nobody to look after my children when my husband Is in work :(
I'm very sore and tender after 18 days and I haven't had a rest since having it done. I wish I'd arranged somebody to have them for 2 weeks or for my husband to be off work longer.
My only rest is in work as I have a desk job. I went back 5 days after the operation. Being in work is easier then being at home with my children in all honesty.
I can lift the shopping but not heavy things, I've ironed after 1 week and cleaned a little but no hoovering and I haven't cleaned as hard or as vigorous yet. The Whole process really took it out of me but I think it's due to the fact Im alway on the go with my kids x x

I picked my boys up 7 and 4 on my way home from the op, my partner couldnt get any time off work :( i was lucky with no pain, but god i was sooo tired for about 4 days, you should be fine after the 2nd week, even feel alot better after the first, just take it easy while you have the help its very important!
Sounds silly but even opening a door is hard for the first few days, I even had to cook tea etc the day after, men eh!!!
Its not until your meant to be resting you actually realise how hard work kids can be! mum mum mum all the time lol...
Im quite mad at family (both sides) as they kept saying u should be resting, but not one person offered to help out, i was home on thursday and they all have fridays off work!!! meaners lol.
xx

Re: everday things after surgery and time off work?
Everyone is different. I could make cups of tea after the op and showered my lower half. On day one I was able to walk around shopping, although my friend carried everything by day three i coul push a pram and hover, very gently and Drive by day 5. I just found that I needed alot of sleep and its been nice having a weeks rest from work. I think it depends on the individual and if u have overs or unders. Overs seem to have a quicker recovery with little pain so I would say a week for overs and 2 weeks for unders, everyone is different so its hard to say.
Take 10 days and I'm sure you'll be fine

Me 2!! I have a 3yr old girl and 17mth old son so very worried about this! I've just been made redundant so don't need 2 bother about work but my nurse said today to take things very easy afterwards! She said not to take to my bed but no picking up kids, hoovering, washin dishes - even pushin prams. Just to potter around and get plenty of rest for at least the 1st week. I think you should b fine with 2 weeks off work. It's so hard to imagin not doin any of this stuff for even a couple of days. My fiance's takin a week off but after that who knows! I'm havin unders too so apparently a longer recovery time? xx

Thankfully, I won't be picking my kids up - they're taller than I am!! But I do have to be back at work 4 days after my surgery! Fortunately I have a desk job!!

Please dont do hoovering for a while, you will hurt after, i actually did listen to that rule, and waited almost 2 weeks! but saying that the hoovering bit was ok, just not the nozzle bit, like stairs etc, ouch!
But like the girls said, everybody is different, the more you rest at the begining the quicker you should be able to get bk to normal things.
Oh i forgot as well i went shopping, which was fine (ish) managed to get it all in the boot, but then thought oh pooh i cant lift up to reach the boot thingy lol, so had to ask this man walking past to do it, i bet he thought lazy cow lol xx

Oh im dreadin it lol!! My fiance is off for the week but I can just imagine him tryin to run around after our 2 kids on his own and do everythin while I sit around!! The only other person who can help out too is his 72yr old grandma, she'll prob take my little fella a few times bless her and then at the wkends hopefully my in laws will have them. I am lucky that his family are good at havin the kids and helpin out its just they all work full time. My mam and dad r good with the kids but my mam isn't in good health and neither have cars xx
