Scars have got darker!!
Hi everyone
I'm 4 weeks post op, started massaging my scars now and putting on bio oil, and I've noticed in the last week the thin line of my scar has got darker.
My scars look really neat and tidy but I'm just worrying a bit that they look darker now all the scabs have come off! Is this normal? Do they get darker before they get lighter?
I will put up some pics soon so you can let me know what you think.
Also when it comes to massaging the scars, what sort of thing should I be doing??

Re: Scars have got darker!!
Thanks hun, tbh I don't really know if they are 'dark' so to speak as I havent seen anyone else's scars to compare. So for all I know mine could be pale haha!

Re: Scars have got darker!!
I do recall my ps saying to me around my 3 month post op visit that the scars can become more pink/red before they start to fade, he said the reason for this is the higher blood flow to the area, which promotes the new tissue growth and healing... that they will start to fade again, and the full results of the scars can take up to a year to see.

Re: Scars have got darker!!
Thank you Sarah, thats really helpful.
Mine aren't bad at all, it was just that I noticed a colour change and got worried! Saw my consultant on Thursday and he said all looks good do I'm sure nothing would have changed since then!!

Cant add much more to that, you're doing fine Sophie, still really early days hun. xx
Re: Scars have got darker!!
Mine got darker at around 3 to 4 months for a while before fading lighter, it's just part of healing and they shouldn't stay dark. :-)
I knew it would probably happen this way cos I've had 3 c-sections and my scar healed the same way each time, going darker then lighter.
So no need to worry at all. xxx

Re: Scars have got darker!!
Ah! This explains a lot to me! My scars were lovely and pinky in the beginning but recently have started to also get redder and darker. Glad it's just the blood flowing, doing it's healing thing!
I just rub a bit of BioOil onto my scars morning and evening. I don't really have a technique, just rub it on and go! It makes me feel a little queasy to be honest so I don't spend too long doing it. xx

Re: Scars have got darker!!
hi i'm a newbie and just having a look around the site and thought i'd reply to this as i was really worried about my scars. i found in the heat they seemed to go much darker. my surgeon recommended newgel+ and i've been using that for a couple of weeks now - i bought the breast anchor shape and the cream and i am sooo pleased. my scars were slightly raised and they have immediately flattened and the redness has gone. thought i'd mention, incase it can help others. i ordered online at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and it came the next day x

Re: Scars have got darker!!
remember ladies, as your scarring is VERY prone to infection early post-op don't use ANYTHING at all on them without your surgeons permission first. xx
Re: Scars have got darker!!
when my scabs came off, i thought they looked really pink and obvious. But they have calmed down alot, so try not worry and wait n see.
Early days!!! xx

Absolutey, they can often look worse before looking better babe. Just be sure to keep your premature scars completely covered away from sunlight and sunbeds to avoid any pigmentation and they should heal to an almost invisible line sweetness. xx
