the GA...
Hi ladies,
After reading some of the BA stories, the one thing that really sticks out is having the GA when you are actually down in the theatre. This seems horrifying to me! lol. I see that some ladies even recall seeing the huge shiny metal lights over head, and it's just more than I could bear thinking thats the last thing i would see before I went under...
so my question is, is it ever possible to have the GA before you get taken down to theatre? If not is there any reason for this? thanx

Re: the GA...
No hun it can only be done in theatre as they have all the equiptment needed there but you will be given a pre-med before they put you under which will really space you out and should work to calm you.
Youll be fine Hun .....everyone freaks out about the though of having a G.A but before you are aware of it you have woken up and its all done

Re: the GA...
Sometimes they give you something calming in another room before they take you into theatre. It's not that bad really, you don't see much and they are busy chatting to you to take your mind off and it's all over really quick.

You will barely register the needle lol a little ***naughty word*** and its all over lol
I hate needles in a big way, but my needle for my ba, I just kept thinking I have waited 10 years for this needle to put me to sleep to wake up with boobies!!!! lol
The ga is wonderful stuff, I cn't remember any pain after and was away with the fairies for a few days after lol

Re: the GA...
Minimax, I was the same - I was petrified of the needle going into my hand, and the thought of going to sleep and being out of control. The GA was EASY!! I cried as I walked into the theatre, felt like a frightened sparrow, but the staff talked calmly to me and after I climbed on the bed, I barely felt the needle, then it was seconds before they were able to put the pre-med in, which makes you feel a little drunk, the room spins....next thing I knew I was awake again!! I did feel a little drunk for a couple of days actually, and cant even remember being in recovery - or phoning my hub/mum or dad once back in my room, who all said I sounded drunk! Dont worry. x

Re: the GA...
The thought of it is much worse that actually doing it. Try not to worry hun, theatre is just a room like a dentist and you just have an injection and go to sleep instantly. I you are really worried about it talk to your surgeon or anesthetist before hand and like misf1 says, they might give you something to calm your nerves an make you feel sleepy before you go into theatre. x

Re: the GA...
Ah hun they apparently can give u a relaxant before hand.
I was nervous about having the ga and especially seeing as when I walked into theatre its was all open and I could see all the scalpuls etc (sorry to scare u) but I tell u what.... Having that GA was THE best feeling ever! Its like being super chilled and falling into the most amazing sleep ever. The only thing I can remember is saying to the aneathetist and nurse "please don't let him hurt me"
And I woke up sooooo relaxed and no pain... I promise huni- from the biggest panic pants ever its not bad at all and everyones so lovely ur put so at ease!Xxxx

Re: the GA...
Ah hun you'll be fine :) I guarantee you'll be back on here passing on your experience to someone else in the position you are now. GA is easy! I never got to see the theatre - they put me to sleep in the room next door. Needle wasn't an issue as I didn't even feel it and I just had a lovely snooze! I'd do it all again tomorrow.

Re: the GA...
The GA really isn't as scary as you think hun, in fact its really nice! It makes you feel really calm and drunk lol. I was petrified too, i was crying the whole morning because i was petrified of the GA, but once i got down to theatre, everyone was so nice and they make you feel really calm. The needle doesn't even hurt and you can't even remember going under. And before you know it you're awake with big boobies! xxx

Awww sweetheart, you're going to be just fine Most of us feel just as you do on the run up to our surgeries and ALL of us wake thinking, what the heck was I scared about
Honestly sweetness, you'll be well taken care of, the nurses, surgeon and anaethetist see women like us all the time and they're used to handling our fear, they're so gentle and will talk you through your fears till you're relaxed and made to feel safe.
Honestly sweetness, it's like blinking your eyes it's that fast! Eyes shut! No boobs! Eyes open! BOOOOOOOOOOBS!
