Consultation booked with MYA
Hi,
Ive got a consultation booked with MYA tomorrow. I have been told that i wont see a surgeon during this consultation and it will only see my patient co-ordinator. You see a surgeon on a second appointment.
I found this a bit strange as i've had two consultations so far, one with The Hospital group and one with Transform and with both of them i saw a surgeon on the day. When I queried why i wasnt going to see a surgeon on the first visit i was told not to worry, they find you the most suitable surgeon for the look im trying to achive and that the patient co-ordinator is lovely and very experienced. Whilst im sure she is lovely and very good at her job surely she isn't qualified to discuss things such as implant size and placement?
Im just curious if this is the norm and if anyone else has been with MYA? xx

Re: Consultation booked with MYA
I have been to a consultation with MYA myself today.
Yes, I didn't see a surgeon either. I wasn't even measured to be honest, and no we didn't discuss size or placement but I guess that's the protocol so I simply used the time to try and get some frank answers on the different implants and failure rates, etc. The patient co-ordinator answered for what she was able. Also I got some prices in writing. I wouldn't say it was a total waste of time as you do start to get the feel of the company by that first consultation. But yes I was a bit annoyed at having to do this first, rather than see the surgeon straight away.
Out of curiosity, of the two consultation you've had so far which was the company which you liked the most?

You're quite right, a patient co-ordinator is not qualified to tell you anything regarding your surgery hun, they are sales people for the clinic and finding the best surgeon to suit you is probably finding you the surgeon that particular co-ordinator gets on with best... or a certain slot needs filling so you'll get offered the surgeon open for that day.
In saying that it's not unusual to see a co-ordinator one day, then have to come back to see a surgeon on another. I've known Transfor and THG to do this too, it all depends on whether there are surgeons in on the day.
If this isn't convenient to you, call back hun and say you can't really get the time off work to come back for another appointment so would it be possible for you to see a surgeon on the same day you see the PC.
They won't want to lose your money babe, so they'll probably agree to that.
Good luck with the consultation hunni and I think it's great you're seeking advice from a few surgeons before making any decisions - Take your time sweetie and remember if you like a surgeon, you can also arrange a second consultation to further discuss your surgery details so you and your surgeon are clear about what you want. xx

Re: Consultation booked with MYA
Thanks ladies.
Well i went for to see the patient co-ordinator and took your advice and just used it to try and get a feel for the company. She gave me a quote of £3850 for a daycase. Ive booked to see the surgeon (Mr Treynor) on the 20th April, so i'll wait and see what I make of him before i decide on anything.
From the consultations so far I would have to say I prefer The Hospital Group, purely because the surgeon I saw, Mr Sforza was really good. I felt he listened to what I wanted and he took loads of time going through everything with me. They weren't at all pushy either. The only down side for me is that the Hospital is Dolan Park which is about a 1hr 45min - 2hrs drive away from me and I'm not loving the idea of having to go so far xx
