GP wouldn't even refer me :( Empty GP wouldn't even refer me :(

Post by lumpybumpy 6th April 2011, 2:06 pm

Hi everyone

I'm 27 years old and have had asymmetric breasts since I can remember, one is around a D cup and the other is a small B. I have often contemplated surgery but always talked myself out of it because of fears of the risks etc. I used to weigh 14 stone at my heaviest and got down to 10 stone over the past few years.I thought this would help balance the breasts out but if anything it's made the problem more obvious. Now I am determined to get the problem fixed and so I went to see the GP about getting referred today and she basically said that my BMI is too high (28) and that they won't consider me for surgery until it goes under 25. Even then she said that the majority of cases she has referred have been refused.

I feel even worse after going to see her because I've worked hard at losing weight and it's almost as if she's basically said i'm still too fat for surgery. I know the NHS have to have strict criteria to provide fair treatment to patients but I just feel so much worse now sad smile It wasn't as if she gave any reassurance either, I think I was kind of hoping that she would say 'It's not as bad as you think' but she agreed with me about the massive difference between the two and said 'yes it's not nice to have a breast like that' Cheers for that Rolling Eyes

to add insult to injury I've put on 1lb after my week long 'diet' so I'm generally feeling like poo right now nope

:(

Keep going with the dieting and youll get under 25 before you know it and then you can try again. At least theyll know youre serious.

Saying that, theyre making real cutbacks in areas like this, so shes right to warn you to be prepared for the worst.

Im sorry youre going through this x

Thx abbie :)

I note you're surgery details say you went with/are going with mybreast. How did you find them? I'm thinking of going private if I can raise funds this year, I hope to book a consultation with James McDiarmid through mybreast if the NHS route doesn't come off for me (which is looking to be the case atm).

That's good to hear, they seem to be the most professional company by far, all surgeons are BAAPS approved which is a massive plus in my book!

Hey Hun. I have just recently been refused, although not refused the funding as such but the best they would offer me is one implant which I would never feel completely comfortable with because they'd feel and act differed if I got pregnant and with age and gravity! So I've decided to go private too, one day at least, finances don't allow at the mo. So know how you're feeling! You could lose that weight and try again!! Good luck which ever way you choose to go :) xxx

Hi Emily,

I'm sorry to hear that, I understand how you feel because I think I'd have reservations about just having one implant, like you say, bodies do change especially with pregnancy and age so chances are you wouldnt be happy later on which may, unfortunately, make things worse. I do believe that going private would give you more options, the surgeons would probably spend more time going through everything with you and you have more leeway with implant size, etc. whereas the NHS will only give you the bare minimum (understandable with such restricted funding).

Have you looked at possible finance options to give you a helping hand? xx

Exactly, I'm currently a large B in one breast and AA in other, at the consultation with plastic surgeon she agreed I'd need two implants, about 100cc difference to even them out. I'd like to be DD so private is my only option to achieve that. I am looking into finance at the moment although have literally no head room for extra outgoings so trying to get a job closer to home to save on fuel! Think I'd like to save up half and then put half on a 0% credit card, I posted on the general breast enlargement section about finance and got lots of great help so I'd suggesting reading that for some more finance tips! I think MYA do a 0% loan over 12 months too. Xxx

How about looking at things such as downgrading your car? is that a possibility at all? I used to have a 206 convertible it was a 2-litre enging, guzzled petrol and the tax was stupid! I've got a 1.2 fiesta now, my tax, insurance and petrol for the week has literally halved! Whatever I save on that, I try and put away towards my funds. the 0% credit card is a good idea too :) I wish these things were more affordable for normal people! it's ok for the likes of Jordan to have an upgrade every year, us lot have to scrimp and save to just have it done once, grrr! xx

Lol so true, bloody Jordan alright for her =p. It's the same with losing weight I think, if I had the time and money for a personal trainer I could be as skinny as the celebs haha!

My car is 1.5 diesel, only £35 tax! And prob couldn't get cheaper insurance, had to spend £400 on service this week tho, bye bye boobie savings!!! I spend £50 a week in fuel :( the company I worked for relocated last year.

We will get there in the end and have the boobs we want one day!!! :) xxx

Oh god £50 a week is really steep :( I do have money put away but I am saving for a deposit on a house, I really need to get my own place now as I'm still at home with my parents and I need my independence! The only problem is, if I use some of that money for boobs, my house hunting will be put on the back burner but then on the other hand if I buy a house before my boobs, I might never afford them with having to run a home! it's catch 22! Think i'll try the euro millions tonight haha! xx

You're in a real similar situation to me, I brought my flat last year, basically I had real problems with my dad and left home to live with my grandparents, I was applying for the RAF too but that all fell through, and whilst grandparent are lovely, they are strict christians and well i dint have the freedom i need, so grandparents kindly lended me deposit for flat.....which whilst they say I need not worry about paying it back for 5 years or so, I really do worry!!! Also I have 85:15 ownership with Taylor Wimpey and really wanna pay them of too! So where's my boob job gonna come into all this, arghhhhhhh!! On the plus side my mortgage is cheaper than renting anywhere and I have the freedom of living on me own! What I really need is a bf to move in....but I've got so down about my body I wont even date anyone! You've reminded me I need to get my lottery ticket too =p xxx

lol i think you might be my boob 'twin'! We're very alike in that respect, I've been single for a year now, I didnt really have major confidence issues about intimacy with my breasts being the way they are as my other ex's never even queried it but my recent ex noticed and made a point of calling them 'big boob and little boob' even thought I hated it. I think he thought that I'd feel better if he made light of it but if anything it made it worse and I'm going through a stage where although I get lonely, I dont really want to date anyone. Ahhhh! so frustrating! let's hope the lottery come through for us! lol! xxx

Oh my, yep you're defo my boobie twin!!! My ex's have never mentioned it to me, I know they noticed it cos you'd have to be blind and lack feeling not to lol! But theres a clear preference to bigger boob! Actually one ex mentioned that when I leaned forward the smaller boob didn't fill the bra so was on full show, embarrassing! Stuff it full of padding now :(. I've been single a year now too, although on and off with ex since then, it seems to affect me lots more now than ever before, I get ever so worried if I have males over.... I'd have to be incredibly intoxicated to allow anything to happen even if I liked the guy! I just got a ticket for tonight and tomorrow! Haha yeh I can keep dreaming and fingers and toes crossed for us! Xxx

Yes! the preference is definitely with the bigger boob, that's why I think it's best to just have the both done out the way and get a decent size pair! seeing as i'll be paying for it, I might as well experience the 'boob greed' rather than just opt for the even-ing out aspect!

I think I'm going to have a good think about what I want to do with the money and aim for maybe October time if I do go ahead to have it done privately.

Bingo is always good too, I go once a month with a group from work and the houses are £500 in the main session. It costs a £10 for the books but we've won a couple of times so if you're lucky it can add up! Maybe give that a go hun! xxx

Yes I'll defo keep an eye out for yours too! If I decide to go ahead with it I think I'm going to go and see James McDiarmid through mybreast. there's very good feedback about him on the site plus he's a member of BAAPS. I looked at Transform and couldnt find surgeons in my area who were BAAPS approved which was a bit of a worry. i know they are prob great surgeons but I think for that extra piece of mind, I'd rather go and see him :) xxx

ooo just thought of another tip, i'm very naughty with my food, takeaways and choc, etc so as I'm cutting down on bad foods, I'm going to start a money jar and put whatever I don't spend on takeaways from now on in there! if you're as similar to me foodwise as we already are, then this might be an idea for saving funds too! xxx

I've already had to say bye bye to takeaways :( craving an Indian all day today!!!! Actually all week!! Turned down kfc last night! But it not only saves money but it'll help in my aim to lose some weight before arranging consultations. I can't find any surgeons BAAPS registered in my area, might be one in norwich, so think I might have to travel to London. Id like to find someone with asymmetry experience, I'm sure they all do but maybe a specialist interest in that area. xxx

Yep, you're on exactly the same page as me! i'm trying to lose around a stone and a half and tone up before I actually think of undergoing surgery so that my boobs will look in proportion with my figure at a more healthy weight. it is something i'm concerned about as I'm not sure how weight loss/gain impacts on the look of the boobs after surgery. Another question to save for consultations methinks! As for a BAAPS surgeon in norwich, have you looked at mybreast to see if there's any near to the area? If you find a surgeon you might be able to email them direct to see if they travel to be nearer to you. if i decide to go with James McDiarmid i'll have to travel 2 hours to cheltenham which isn't as bad as going all the way up to london.i'm in south wales and mybreast don't seem to operate here at all :( xxx

That's how much weight I'm trying to lose!! Keeping it off will be the hard part, but I do actually enjoy the gym, it's just naughty food I can't resist! I don't tend to lose much from my boobs anyway ( probably cos one is tiny anyway)! but I think that if you do lose from your boobs and had surgery at a heavier weight then they'd look more obviously fake and stuck on! I haven't looked at mybreast actually, harley medical, transform and mya all do consultants at Norwich but you have to travel for the surgery. Spire do it all in norwich. BMI have a hospital 15min walk away, would be perfect place to have mine but they only have one surgeon!!! He does work for spire at too but he's not on BAAPS, I wonder how important that is?? And i might not get along with him! My other option is having surgery and staying with my mum in hampshire.
How you enjoying this sunshine?? Personally I'm not, bikini for sunbathing..... No thanks! Vest tops= constantly checking boobs and pads are in place, stressful! Makes me just wanna book for surgery tomorrow! I wish =P xxx

I'm well into the gel bra thing at the moment! because the gel is so full, it actually looks like you're one-two cup sizes bigger without really noticing the size difference. i paid around £18 for mine, it's an ultimo one so it's worth picking one or two up, i find they work really well! As for bikinis, I find that the padded bandeau type work best as there's no cleavage look with them :)

As for mybreast, all their surgeons are BAAPS approved so thats extra peace of mind :) plus their aftercare is fantastic and they only use certain implants, i think it's Natrelle/Nagor, the ones with a lifetime warranty. i dont think you have to travel any further for the surgery either unlike Transform etc where you have a local consultation then have to go to London/Manchester for the op. my understanding is that you have the op at the same place where you have your consultation. it's worth getting in touch to get a brochure or to just get details of surgeons. I have heard lots of good reports about James McDiarmid so I think I will keep saving for now and maybe book a consultation with him towards the end of summer. Also, with mybreast their consultations are only £25 whereas if you booked direct with one of their surgeons it would prob cost you around £150 minimum. i believe this covers up to two consultations prior to surgery as well, this fee is deducted from the overall cost if you go ahead with the op too which is even better! well worth a look hun! xxx

Had a look at mybreast, London would be closest for me, might be worth it for the good aftercare tho, as I'm a worrier! see how I find the companies in my area then may have to venture further a field! Xxx
