antibacterial soap
Hi girls,
in my pre-op instructions my hospital have recommended that I wash with antibacterial soap the night before my op.
Did anyone else use this? Where did you get it? The only antibacterial stuff I can see on Tesco is handwash... will this do the job? Can you only get these things from a pharmacy or something?

(ps. sorry for accidentally posting this in the newbie thread originally... I have no idea how I managed that!!)

Re: antibacterial soap
Hiya, maybe they are thinking of Hibiscrub? Its an antibacterial wash, pink in colour and you get in from a pharmacy/chemist. Its what i was told to use before i had an op in the past x x

I remember reading a post a while back about this hun. I think it was called 'hibiscrub' which is the stuff they use in hospitals.

Re: antibacterial soap
I bought a dettol antibacterial one from superdrug for about 70p which the nurse said was fine hun. All the other ones cost 3 or 4 pounds, and you'll probably only use it the once. Just be careful not to wash any sensitive areas with it x

I wasn't told to do it either hun, and yes, you would think that they would all follow the same rules.

No, I wasn't told that either - but I had to shower beforehand on the day itself when I was in my room and use the special soap which they provided.

Re: antibacterial soap
Hi, I'm also having my BA with mybreast and have been told to use the antibacterial wash the night before. Will get the brand mentioned above.
Must just be a mybreast rule since other clinics don't recommend it. Think this is why I don't have a pre-med too since MRSA isn't a problem at the hospital i am using.
Must find out if i can use it to shower on the morning of the op too....

Re: antibacterial soap
It's not a rule so much as a precaution. It simply helps to reduce the risk of infection. I'm happy to do anything if it makes it a bit safer.
Thanks for the advice hayley, I'll get some of that instead as the other stuff I could only find for about £7!!
