Going it alone!
Hi just wondering if anyone had/is going in alone for BA? We have recently moved areas ( temp, max 2 yrs) cause of my OH job so away from friends and I don't have close family, OH family is 5 hrs away and I have 3 kids so he's staying home to look after them, I asked a friend who doesn't live too far away to come with me but think she was uncomfatable with it as she said she may be busy and softly suggested I ask my mother in law instead but my father in law is quite I'll with ms so would feel selfish asking too much from her, I don't mind at all doing it alone. It's my choice after all but feel like a zombie going it alone, nurses/people I mention it too (haven't told that many) ect look at me like I'm crazy when I say I don't have anyone. Am i right for wanting to do this regardless of my current situation or should I have waited till we were back living near family and friends??

Re: Going it alone!
What do you mean "doing it alone"
Is it 'how are you going to get there', or just that you'll be waiting in a room for the surgery on your own?
I won't have anyone waiting with me. My DH will drop me off and then pick me up (he'll have the kids to look after).

Hi,
What do you mean 'doing it alone'. I went on my own on the day of my BA, I got train to London and OH collected me the next morning with one of my children.....
He had about 10 days off work post op but only cos he had no work at the time.

Re: Going it alone!
Yes waiting alone, I know someone who recently had them done and had mum, husband, bestfriend ect all taking it in turns to be with her, guess I was worried everyone would be the same, i must just be hyper sensitive at the minute, think it's the whole waking up alone thing haha, also he has no time off work and I'm having to get myself to my post-op first appointment but the nurse said I should have someone with me but there is no-one! Sorry silly post must be nerves!!

Yeah i did that. I went in on my own. Waited alone. After the BA I had to recover alone in my room. The next day i was lucky enough to have a friend pick me up and drive me back to my house, though.

Re: Going it alone!
I think a lot of people do it alone tbh.
Sounds like your friend was a bit overboard on the support (to me anyway)
If the first post-op appt is after a week, you should be ok to drive depending on how far it is.
It's not a silly question, there's no such thing, but I do think you'll be just fine. You will have the nurses to check on you and afterwards I'd imagine you'll want to sleep and rest. You'll be fine chick x

Re: Going it alone!
It wasn't a silly post at all hun We are all here for help and advice.....
What kind of BA are you having? Unders, partials, overs - any uplift??
I had partials and was quite uncomfortable post-op but pain killers definately helped and I found the mornings the worst as you feel kind os heavy and 'stiff'......
Good luck and I'll look forward to reading your success story! xxxx

Great glad you feel better. It's a fab, exciting day! I loved my BA day felt like a kid on Xmas Eve the day before.....
Just read ur having overs which are easier to recover from as apparently less painful so another plus point for you

Re: Going it alone!
I did it alone. I got a coach to london stayed over night in a hotel and then the morning of my op I went to the hospital, had the op and then I arranged a private hire taxi firm to bring me home. I would have prefered family or a friend with me obviously but doing it alone meant no tears and I only had to focus on myself. x

Re: Going it alone!
Hi hunnie,
Yes, I did it alone too (the clinic was about 200 miles from where I live) and as I live by myself, I was alone when I got back - although I had a friend do a bit of shopping for me.
It's not as bad as you might think - there are nurses, carers etc popping in all the time whilst you are there - you don't get time to be lonely LOL
xx

Re: Going it alone!
I did it on my own too, cos hubby was with the kids and my mum who was meant to be there got snowed in! To be honest, I think it was better without anyone there! My mum would probably have made me more nervous! And after the op I was just happy to watch TV and snooze.
You probably wont be able to drive for your first post-op appointment though...so it may be worth planning for that. Although as Tonic said as you're having overs you might feel better than I did with unders.
I found the whole BA recovery not too bad at all, and in fact it sometime felt like I was having a little holiday as hubby dealt with the kids! Enjoy and I hope it goes well for you!

Re: Going it alone!
My parents dropped me at the hospital (far too early as they were worried about getting there because of the snow), I waited over 4 hours in my room, wasn't at all worried and enjoyed having nothing to do but read or watch tv. Nurses, anathestics, surgeon popped in to do blood pressure, mark me up with measurements and measure me for stockings etc. I rang my husband when I came round from GA and spent evening watching tv and texting friends. My husband collected me after breakfast the next morning, brought me home and went then he went to work, leaving our 15 year old daughter to look after me (think she managed to make me a cup of tea)! I know from reading the posts on the forum that it is not uncommon for people to go for BA on their own - but I was really proud of myself for staying calm and doing it for myself - I think other people would have freaked me out. So go for it girl - enjoy the experience and your new boobs! xx

Re: Going it alone!
I half did it on my own. My OH couldn't get all week off so I decided he would be more useful if he had a couple of days off when I'd had the op as thats when I'd need him most. He took me to the hospital and stayed a couple of hours and left to go to work. I had my op 5 hours later he picked me up the next day.For me having someone there to help a little at home straight after was more important than having someone there for the day of the op.

Hiya i'm going on my own too. I'm not telling my parents and my best mate is working the day i'm hoping to have my ba. I was a bit worried about this too, its just the waiting to go in for surgery that i'd really like some company for. I'll be a nervous wreck! Ah well, sure we'll be fine. Everyone says its easier than you think. I just cant wait to get it over with, i want boobs! x

Re: Going it alone!
I did it on my own too hun, hubby stayed with me while the nurse booked me in, then I sent him home because I was getting very emotional. In the evening I was that out of it, I told him not to visit, so spent the whole night alone too. xx

Re: Going it alone!
My hubby was with me until I went into theatre, then he nipped back home (where he works from) I said I would call him as soon as I was awake but he was there anyway before I did....little love, he was so worried he wanted to make sure I came round after the GA ok. But to be honest hun, I could have done it on my own as the nurses were brilliant and really looked after me...it was actually a fab day, apart from the early start and being starving....the cuppa and biscuit after I came round was absolute heaven!!! xx

Re: Going it alone!
I think it is good to have someone with you after the op for a few days as it can be very painful to do things.. and move around and its good to have the company as you may feel low after the GA.. After all it is major surgery and you need to rest up for the first week at least.. But everyone is different.
I would have found it all very difficult if I had been on my own. My other half had a week at home with me post surgery and I would not have managed without him...
If you are going to be on your own I just think you need to make sure that your life will be as easy as possible post op.. so you can rest and recover. Get as much help as you can and get your oh to do stuff for you amap.
