Alt_Barbie - Tattoos and boob jobs!
Hey Laura - I have just checked out your website very cool I see that you specialise in piercings and permanent makeup - I am a make-up artist by trade and often get questions fired at me about permanent makeup so I know where to direct people if they are genuinely interested!!
But I wonder whether you know anything about the so say connection between capsular contracture and tattoos. It is thought that tattoos can cause an infection that 'could' lead to the complication. There was a thread about it a while back but no-one really had an factual answer.
I have been considering getting another tattoo for nearly 3 years now either on my foot or on my lower back (to one side) and having suffered from CC I of course don't want to increase my risk even more.

Hey!
I have no idea about CC & tattoos,,, Makes absolutely no sense what so ever for it to cause that though... Hell im fooked if it does!
Risk of infection is VERY low if you follow after-care properly & go to a reputable tattoo studio. All the inks nowadays are tried & tested to be safe. Also all the big ink companies also sterilize their inks.
Even if you do get an infection... I dont see why that would cause CC in your boobs.

I have 2 full sleeves, full on chest piece which goes onto my boobs, full back covered, both sides of my neck... & my surgeon didnt once mention anything about tattoos.
I guess this bacteria they speak of can cause problems. But you would have to be very unlucky to get tattooed with unsterilised ink which contains it.

Well I saw my surgeon and have one full sleeve, one half sleeve, chest, legs and back and he didn't say anything! In fact I was impressed that when I took my dress off (it had long sleeves and covered up everything) he didn't even blink!!
Laura I agree with you - I can't see how it would affect your boobs as it's not even anything to do with the skin. CC is to do with the tissue in your boobs which is right under the skin!

Re: Alt_Barbie - Tattoos and boob jobs!
There's no exact known reason for CC, some women are just very unlucky. Theoretically, it has been noted that there is a connection between CC and tatts, but there is no direct proof. Same with Dentists. There are a small portion of women who have developed CC after dental work.
It's thought that it happens due to the bacteria entering the blood stream causing infection and targetting the breast implant which is a foreign body.
It's all about choice though isn't it. We all know there are risks involved when having this surgery and it's best to at least know exactly what the possibilities are beforehand so that you're then making informed decisions afterwards. xx

Re: Alt_Barbie - Tattoos and boob jobs!
I have heard the dentist theory many times and that it is recommended you have a course of antibiotics before any major work. I would be very embarrassed to have to mention my boobs to my dentist though - she'd probably think I was a right drama queen.
It's gotta be all to do with infection as bacteria can enter the blood stream from your mouth and I guess cause an infection anywhere in the body - I would think it is EXTREMELY rare if this is the case. And the same theory must apply to tattoos....although I had not heard of this before I joined this site and it was another thread that caused my concerns. Maybe it's just people scaremongering tactics!!

Re: Alt_Barbie - Tattoos and boob jobs!
As they said it's bacteria... this could relate to any bacteria infection in theory. Not just tattoos... I think the risk is very small..
Iv been getting tattooed for about 9 years now, not once had I got an infection.
Until last week... I went out for Halloween 2 days after I had it done. I must have somehow got some nastiness into it. Which resulted in areas oozing puss, bleeding & gererally hurting like hell. It was pretty grim, I was quite worried.
I got some anti biotics from my doctor & all is well now.
I imagine the tattoo itself cannot do you harm, I would assume if u got an infection like I did the bacteria from that floating around your system is what/could cause it.

Re: Alt_Barbie - Tattoos and boob jobs!
Yes I think your right Alt_ barbie in saying its not the actual tatoo that causes the cc it the 'infection' ( if you get one!) that could cause it.
& i guess the same go's for dentist work as our mouths are full of bacteria........................But if it is infection that causes cc then i would guess all infections would cause the same reaction and could cause cc?
Im off to do some reserch! :good:
