Ultimately how will I know?
I've heard lots of people talk about finding a surgeon who is right for me but how will I know if he/she is? I know a lot of girls have said their surgeon took the time with them and this seems to be a big part of their decision making but to be honest i couldn't care less about how chatty they are just as long as they take good care of me and do a stonking on me! I know abot checking the registers etc and asking good questions but please could you tell me What was the deciding factor for all of you? Love Dee x

Re: Ultimately how will I know?
When ladies talk about surgeons taking time with them this is not about them having a chatty conversation of any sort.
What they mean by taking time with them is that the surgeon will take the time to discuss indepth the procedure likely to be performed, they will also answer indepth any concerns or questions the patient might have as well as taking the time to thoroughly examine the breasts and take into account breast tissue, body shape, body fat etc, offering not only good advice and reassurance but also confidence in the surgeon.
There are some surgeons out there who sadly don't offer this service to their patients, they may be abrupt or make it clear that they don't have time to respond to your questions once you've been told what to expect or not give a thorough examination, but might have a good reputation so gain their work this way.
My decider was that my surgeon DID take time for me, I figured if he cared enough to give this time pre-op then he will also give me his time post-op and offer me the advice and reassurance needed after this op. x

Re: Ultimately how will I know?
Thanx for your answer cookie. So for you was your final decision based on how they engaged and responded to you as an individual rather than statistics? Am I allowed to ask who performed your op? I hope my message isn't read as being abrupt I'm just a little confused and concerned about how I will know who is 'the one'. As you will know -a major decision that has to be right. Love Dee x

Sorry, just seen on your profile who did your op. I'm still getting used to the forum, sorry. X

Re: Ultimately how will I know?
I think feeling comfortable with the surgeon is a big part of it. My surgeon was the first I saw and I had confidence in him, he knew what he was talking about and took time to give me an examination and explain his reasons for choices, and listened to what I wanted in terms of results.

Both. I wanted a surgeon who knew his stuff, was good at his job with all the qualifications needed and also someone who cared about his work and his patients.
I felt I found all of that in Mr S. xx
Re: Ultimately how will I know?
Hi hun, I also knew my surgeon was the one as I felt he understood me, he didn't waffle on or try to sell himself, he was straight to the point, no bull. I liked that about him. It just felt right, like a gut instinct. I also came on this forum and spoke to a lovely lady that had my surgeon and she was very happy with his work

Hi DeeDee
I first off liked my ps based on his photos of previous work done (and of course that he had top credentials and lots of great feedback and no bad feedback)
Then at my consult I liked him because although he answered all my questions and took into consideration the "look" I wanted he very much takes control of what he feels is best for you and that made me feel good because this is his specialty and he should know whats best and not just do what the patient asks... and now I can say he gave me not only what I wanted look wise but I really feel he gave me the size and profile that was right for my body
I also liked that he has such a friendly outgoing personality that he engaged with me and the hubby and made me feel like a person not a number. He was like this everytime and I feel it is genuinely the type of doctor he is.
Finally his entine staff have been so good his nurse was in contact with me numerous times in the first week to follow up, and I am going back today for my 4th post visit (I had a lift with drains for 2 days so I have had xtra appts) and every time they all are so accomodating with me and take there time with me... I feel very well taken care of!
good luck deciding :)

I totally agree with Sarah although we had a different PS in OZ. My PS knew his stuff and made me feel like I was in good hands, he also made my husband feel comfortable and secure in my opinion. It's about his level of professionalism.

Re: Ultimately how will I know?
Hi hun I saw 3 surgeons. The one I went with I was in the least amount of time with not because he wasn't thorough because he left all the pleasantries to the PC and got straight to the point. I told him what I wanted he said it was achievable and told me the plan of action clearly and conscisely he answered my questions and told me to think about it. I did and decided on him I knew out of the 3 that I had the most confidence in him. And my husdand was comfortable with him too. : )
