Post Op Constipation?
Hi girls,
I keep reading about girls experiencing constipation post op, due to the painkillers?
I am dreading this! I get bloated enough from nothing anyway, and I struggle 'going to the toilet' as it is..
I'm wondering how did any of you girls deal with this? Is it safe to take laxative's whilst taking the painkillers?
Thanks xxx

Re: Post Op Constipation?
Hi hun,it is generally the pain killers that make you constipated post op,and tooo take a mild laxative is helpful. The best ones to try are lactulose a sweet medicine you can buy ove rthe counter or senna tablets, but they are a bit stronger.Alternatively try your local holland and barret store for something natural.I had to take a lot of co-codomal tablets a few years back for a back problem and this is waht i did and it helped so much.x

Re: Post Op Constipation?
Ha ha yep you will get it!!!!
My advice is not to wait till you are completely blocked up and in pain, if youve not GONE after a couple of days have 2 senokot before you go to bed and you'll GO the next morning
That is the advice someone gave me on her before i had my op and it was genius

Re: Post Op Constipation?
hey
i think it all depends on the painkillers you are prescribed. i wasn't given tablets to take post BA (apart from paracetamol). they just stuck a patch on my upper-arm, which released painkillers gradually into my system. it looked just like a small nicotine patch. it was called a 'durogestic dtrans patch'. i kept it on for about 2 days. i had no constipation or bloating at all after the BA.

Also try fresh pineapple, it has a natural anti inflatatory in it called Bromelain which relieves constipation. Also helps bring on labour too.
I got bloating for about 3 days last time, but didnt know then what i could do about it x

Mellie - thanks that patch sounds like a good idea, I might as them about that. Were you in much pain? You're still in the early days of your recovery, how are you feeling now?

Re: Post Op Constipation?
Try this - it's better than any laxitive I've ever used...

It's called Smooth Move....steep for 3 minutes to start...the more you steep, the stronger the stuff is that makes you "go". I am the worst person when it comes to being "regular" and this stuff is awesome!!!!

Re: Post Op Constipation?
The bloating has nothing to do with being constipated i found, the bloatedness was a result of the GA and that lasted 2weeks for me, and the constipation was about a week or so after, oh im all confused now, all i know is that i was in more pain with my tummy than my boobs so my advice would be to stock up on fruit, drink loads and loads of water, and rest as much as you can....
