PLEASE HELP ARRRGH
You will prob see this message on LYB and sofem as have copied and pasted in a panic, so please accept my apologies in advance for multiple postings xx
OMG has anybody been to the Cadogan Clinic on Sloane Street for their surgery? I thought I would have a look at the website just to get an idea of what it was like and now I am crapping myself! I am going in as a day case with mybreast, but apparantly they use a different anaesthetic on day case patients called TIVA!! You don't need breathing tubes or anything with it as it is not as deep as GA and you wake up really quickly with none of the side effects of a traditional GA, which all sounds good, but i want to be assured that nobody has **naughty word** woken up in the middle or remembers the op or some such disaster. ARRRRGH have typed this so quick in a panic i am not even sure if i am making sense, but if anyone gets my drift please help me xxx

Re: PLEASE HELP ARRRGH
I had a traditional GA so can't really speak from personal experience... but what I would say is that I would have been quite happy to have the sort of anaesthsia you have mentioned. From what I understand you are heavily sedated and then also local anaesthetic is used to numb the actual area (ie boobies). If in the unlikely event you did wake up (and I stress unlikely) you would be so woozy and wouldn't feel a thing anyway.
I have been lead to believe that recovery after this type of anaesthetic is also a bit easier.
These things are closely monitored so I'm sure if they felt you needed a little "top up" it would be administered fairly quickly!
Could you perhaps phone them and ask them to explain the TIVA in better detail to you?
All the best. Angel x

Re: PLEASE HELP ARRRGH
Hi hun,
Ive not actually heard of TIVA so unfortunately can't advise, but like Angelpie said, I would give them a call and ask them to explain the procedure, and answer any questions.. and hopefully that will put your mind at ease.

Re: PLEASE HELP ARRRGH
Hello mrs o!!
I agree with other girls, I would ring and ask to have the whole procedure explained, so as you fully undersand what to expect. I think you will feel much better if you understand what will occur. I can fully understand that it would be scary not knowing.
However, though I have not experienced this procedure, I would, I believe opt for it if I understood the process, as it may ease the healing process. Good Luck

Has your surgeon told you he will be using tiva? I would give him a call hun and not worry until then, the website might not be right or might be outdated, you never know. I know daycase girls usually have GA x

True, I was day case and had GA, (not at the same hospital that you're going to though).

Re: PLEASE HELP ARRRGH
Will do. If you have a look on their website it tells you all about it and specifically says it is used for day case breast augmentations. just search for the Cadogan Clinic and look at the option that says 'what makes us different'. I will let you all know what my surgeon says tomorrow and how the op goes anyway xx

Re: PLEASE HELP ARRRGH
Hey, I haven't heard of this before but if they do use it and they reassure you that it's effective, I would say, why not! It sounds much less hassle than GA - it didn't bother me but it did cause a lot of bloating and I still have some (although it may just be weight gain from inactivity lol).
Let us know hun xx

Re: PLEASE HELP ARRRGH
I have just googled "TIVA" and the majority of information that was coming up, was that it is just the same as GA, but you dont have the grogginess, and you dont need help breathing..
It sedates you, and puts you into a deep sleep, but you dont remember anything about the op..
Chin up hun, and try not to worry..

As if by magic.....!
Im not exactly sure what TIVA is but what we use is a combination of sedation and opiates for our Endoscopic procedures. The patient is in a 'twighlight state' not unconscious but not fully awake either. Its really safe to use, very few complications and can be titrated (topped up) and reversed really easily. Its so safe us specialist nurses are trained to give it.I know this is used for BA's as a friend had hers with it and had a very positive experience.
I have a little read up and ask our Docs over the next few days and let you know more.

Re: PLEASE HELP ARRRGH
I think I must have had this type of sedation when I had a procedure done. I was aware of one or two moments, which is what I was expecting from the literature provided. It wasn't anything as invasive at surgery, so I was probably didn't need to be sedated as heavily, but what I will say is that you recover from it in minutes rather than the hours it takes me to recover from a GA. And it was a rather pleasant feeling!!

Re: PLEASE HELP ARRRGH
Hi Mrs O
It was different procedure - nothing that involved cutting, but possibly uncomfortable. I don't remember much about it!!
