Massage
Hi girls, im 12 days PO now and was wondering if any of you massaged your boobs to help soften them up? just a theory, mine keep swelling and getting softer and swelling again, ive found that now my right has settled more than left as its my dominant arm, left is harder and more uncomfortable, i have started to massage just the edges where my ribs are, dont know if its doing any good but it soothes.
Did anyone find that one day they were softish and the next day they were hard again?
I had overs by the way.
if anyone has any techniques that i could give a go,
Thanks x

Re: Massage
Massage is only really used when there is a sign of capsular contraction. Most surgeons advise against it until you're at least 6 weeks post op as it can cause stitches to tear and open, especially the internal ones.
If you're worried, make an app with your surgeon to get his opinion on whether there's anything you can do to relieve the swelling.

Re: Massage
And if you had textured implants it is normal pactice not to massage as you actually want the tissue to heal to the textured coating. This helps stop tissue to tissue healing and the resulting tightening or capsular contracture. It stops tissue healing in a uniform way too and this further reduces the cc risk.
If you massage you will break the bonding up so it;s a no-no generally (though your surgeon is the one best placed to say yay or nay)
You may find coole towels will help (not too cold or ice as I read on a us site that it can slow blood flow??!) it will reduce your swelling. Also are you on an anti inflam like diclofenac? That will resuce swelling too.
It does pass really quickly though, it will soon seem like a distant memory xx

Re: Massage
I was advised to massage at 4 weeks post-op but ONLY on the advice of my clinic, my left breast was sat very high on my chest and the massage was used to encourage the breast to drop. As asvised above, massage should NOT be used unless advised by your PS babe.
You might find if you've done a little more than you should one day, the swelling will indicate to you to slow down! Maybe you're overdoing things babe?
I used icepacks to help with my swelling as advised by my clinic and given to me by Transform to help reduce the swelling and help with the discomfort - They worked for me! xx

Re: Massage
Thanks so much, i did have the textured implants, but was given no indication about how they heal etc, so im glad i asked, ive literally just slightly massaged around my ribs and under my arm so not touched the actual implant thank god...dont want to undo all the good work,
i do find an ice pack wrapped in a towel is great help, as it feels like my left pec muscle is pushing on the implant, but to be honest it get easier every day.
Thanks for the advice, if i didnt have you guys, then i could have done myself an injury.

Re: Massage
Hi, I have textured implants. I saw my surgeon for the first time since my op on Thurs, and he told me to start massaging to help soften them and speed up the dropping. I'm sure other surgeons would say not to massage, but I guess your own surgeon will know what's best for you. I definately wouldn't do anything this soon after the op without checking x
