Be careful not to be taken advantage of!
I've twice read something very disturbing in the PIP forum today -
1. The Harley Medical Group wanting to charge an extortionate £5,500 to replace PIP implants they implanted!
2. A surgeon (not the surgeon who performed the surgery) diagnosing a rupture and silicone leakage from only a basic examination with no scan to refer to (a scan is the only way of determining a rupture and tests done on the lymph nodes are the only way to determine whether the silicone leaked to them)
I just feel that due to the distress and the amount of concerns ladies with PIP implants have, you're at risk of being taken advantage of as it's highly probable you'll be very anxious to just have the PIPs removed and unfortunately may well be told what you 'want' to hear so you can justify the surgery and they can gain your business.
Just be careful ladies.... Take your time in making sure that the advice you're given is correct before acting on it, and shop around if you're thinking of changing your implants, you'll find much cheaper prices out there than The Harley Medical Group are requesting and question EVERYTHING!
Companies/surgeons are very aware of your fears and 'some' may take advantage of that so just keep your wits about you. xxx

Good advice Cookie. I for one will not be taken for a ride. Last time I didn't ask enough questions or do enough research...this time will be different. Yes I want these PIPs out but I will make sure I go with someone who has morals and cares about ME not their pockets.

Re: Be careful not to be taken advantage of!
I totally agree cookie, I had my PIPs with HMG 6 years ago, i had no complaints at the time and was so happy with results.I found out i had Pips 3 months ago after i had pains in my left breast. i spoke to Harley and i felt i couldnt trust a word they said. They were still in denial and i was shocked at how little help they were offering. They should be doing more.Im having mine replaced with My breast for £4300 ,they did say they were not the cheapest thou.
I would also like to add that if any Pip ladies who want get an ultra sound done go to your GP.Mine was aware of the MRHA report and i got a scan within 2 wks.You could always take a print off of the report. You really shouldnt have to pay for one it seems unfair.

Re: Be careful not to be taken advantage of!
HI
Dont know if you can help me, but I have just read and joined this forum as I have the dreaded PIP implants and one has ruptured, I had my original implants done with the HMG and I can honestly say they have been no help to me at all, they have given me no reassurance or help of any kind I have an appointment to see my surgeon in 2 weeks time and they have told me I must have a scan done so i can take the pictures with me, I feel really let down surely they should perform the scan or arrange one for me instead of me having to pay £150 for one. I have contacted them numerous times now asking where i stand financially to no avail, I havent got the money to pay for another op. I am in pain and discomfort all the time with one very swollen and sore boob it embarrassing as its huge compared to the other - can you give me any advice??
Thanks

Hi Bellageorge,
How awful for you.I really feel for you. It would depend the after care policy and when you had your op .Alot places now cover you for cc and rupture for 5 years but i have heard that Harley have been charging to get ruptured pips replaced. Someone else may know this for sure and your surgeon should really know where you stand. I had mine done with them but it was 6 years ago so im not covered and found them so unhelpfull too.NHS will do scans and also take out ruptured implants for free but they will not replace them. So far the MRHA have not pointed any blame at the surgeons and they were only banned in march so it may be difficult to sue HMG and PIP have gone bankrupt. But it maybe worth getting some free legal advice if your surgeon is no help.Good Luck hun i hope your okay.

Re: Be careful not to be taken advantage of!
I mentioned on the opening post of this thread about a member being diagnosed with a rupture from a basic examination and said that this was impossible, today I read of yet another member being told by a surgeon that she too has a ruptured implant also based on just a basic examination, this causes me alot of concern for you ladies.
James McDiarmid responded to the question and has confirmed that a ruptured implant cannot be confirmed through a basic examination, the only way to get confirmation of a rupture is by having an ultrasound or MRI scan, so beware ladies!
You can read what James said HERE
